US man `swallowed` by 20ft sinkhole under bedroom

New York, Mar 2 (ANI): A 36-year-old man was presumed dead after a large crater opened up under the bedroom of his Tampa home and swallowed him.

In a matter of seconds, the earth opened under Jeff Bush’s bedroom and swallowed him up like something out of a horror movie.

The only thing left was the TV cable running down into the hole, the New York Daily News reported.

Bush was presumed dead on Friday as he fell into a sinkhole – a hazard so common in Florida that state law requires home insurers to provide coverage against the danger.

US man suing ex for stealing his sperm and conceiving baby

Washington, Mar 2 (ANI): A man from Louisiana is suing a fertility clinic and his former girlfriend after the sperm bank handed over two vials of his sperm in a “paper lunch sack” to the woman who then conceived a child without his permission.

Lawyer Cade Bernsen accuses Toby Devall of having “bluffed her way into getting the sperm” and created a baby without ex-boyfriend Layne Hardin’s consent “purposefully out of vindictiveness and to punish him for breaking up with her,” ABC News reported.

Investor drops legal attempt to get Apple ‘release huge cash pile to shareholders’

London, Mar 2 (ANI): A lawsuit by the hedge fund manager David Einhorn’s Greenlight Capital challenging an Apple proposal governing stockholder rights has been dropped.

Einhorn had wanted the iPhone and iPad maker to create a new class of special preferred shares.

Apple originally said it would only do this if all shareholders were given a vote on the plan, but has since dropped this idea.

According to the BBC, Apple has now withdrawn the proposals for a shareholder vote on the preference share matter, making the legal battle unnecessary.

Two arrested for robbery bid

Two persons have been arrested from a residential colony here while they were trying to commit robbery, police said today.

The duo was nabbed yesterday by residents of Azad Nagar colony in Dharuhera and later handed over to police, they
said, adding that their third accomplice managed to flee.

A country-made revolver was also recovered from the possession of the two, identified as Noor Mohammad and
Mohammad, police said.

College girl commits suicide

Dejected over being admonished by the principal and her class teacher for taking long leave,a 20-year-old girl student of a private women’s college here allegedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous cowdung
powder.

The second year BCA student had returned to college yesterday after two weeks leave following which the class
teacher sought the reason for her unauthorised absence and asked her to bring her parents.

Her mother came and gave an explanation during which the principal and Head of the Department, reportedly admonished the student over the leave, police said.

Iron ore scam: Reddy’s another associate arrested by CBI

One more associate of mining baron G Janardhana Reddy was arrested by CBI here today in connection with illegal iron ore export from Belekeri port in Karwar.

K Mahesh was produced before the CBI court today and remanded in police custody till March 8, CBI sources said.

Reddy’s another associate Swastik Nagaraj was also nabbed in this connection on February 28 and remanded in police
custody till March 8 by the CBI court yesterday.

The CBI has been probing the iron ore scam subsequent to the Supreme Court directive in September 2012.

Body of minor girl found

The body of a nine-year-old girl, belonging to Bru community and resident of Mizoram-Tripura border village of West Bunghmun, has been recovered, police said today.

The minor girl, suspected to have been raped before being murdered, was taken from her home by another person, from the same community and known to her family as Norena, on February 25 on the pretext of collecting vegetables for the family, police said.

Rs 23 lakh looted from bank ATM

Police have launched a manhunt for a security guard-cum-caretaker of a bank ATM who decamped with Rs 23 lakh from the cash dispensing machine near here.

The incident took place last evening at Bhayander, a distant suburb of Mumbai, Prashant Deshpande, Thane Deputy
Superintendent of Police, told PTI today.

He said at around 6 pm, the security guard on duty informed the maintenance personnel that the ATM, belonging to
State Bank of India and located near Bhayander railway station, was not functioning.

Two cops shot dead in Kashmir

Two policemen were today shot dead by militants in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.

Constables Santosh Kumar and Azad Chand of Indian Reserve Police (IRP) were shot at by the militants from point blank range in Handwara town, 75 kms from here, police said.

The duo, who were on routine beat duty in the north Kashmir township, were rushed to a nearby sub-district
hospital where the doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Security forces cordoned off the area immediately and launched a manhunt for the assailants.

Armed men today allegedly looted Rs 18 lakhs from traders in Patna and Muzaffarpur districts, police sources said.

A trader, Ashok Vishwakarma, was allegedly robbed of Rs eight lakhs by the armed men in Mahendru locality under
Pirbahor area while he was on his way to a bank to deposit the cash, the sources said.

Couple killed; one held

A farmer couple was allegedly murdered with sharp weapons in Pokhari village in the district, police said today.

The incident took place last night under Mahagaon police station limits here, when the couple had gone to their
farm to protect the standing crop, police said adding that a 25-year-old youth was arrested in this connection this

1 cup Cheddar Cheese (shredded)
2 tbsp Butter (softened)
½ cup All-purpose Flour
1/8 tsp Cayenne Pepper
24 pimento-stuffed Green Olives
How to make Baked Cheese Olives

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
Combine together cheddar cheese and butter, in a small mixing bowl.
Add flour and cayenne pepper to the mixture. Blend well to form dough.
Take a tablespoon of the dough and wrap it around each green olive.
Place the wrapped olives on a cookie sheet.
Bake the olives for 15 minutes or till they turn golden brown.
Serve hot.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) on Saturday informed that the emergency pumping arrangements at Himayathsagar and Osmansagar were ready.

Bihar CM Nitish calls Congress ”inflation” party

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday lashed out at the UPA Government over the recent hike in petrol prices, saying the other name of the ruling Congress Party at the Centre is inflation.

“Sometimes the price of petrol, diesel, rail fare is increased and sometimes the price of essential commodities is also increased. The other name of Congress party is inflation party. The prices will continue to rise till the party is ruling,” he told media in Patna.

BJP MLA slams govt’s silence on Afzal Guru issue

Accusing both the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir government of not reacting to the situation in the Valley over the execution of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, BJP MLA Chaman Lal Gupta on Saturday said it can harm interest of the people in the state.

“The Centre must take note of the happenings (in Kashmir) over the Guru issue, especially when the tourist season is fast around the corner,” the former defence minister said.

“If timely steps are not taken, an ugly situation can end up marring the chances of a good tourist season,” he told reporters here.
