Interrogation of IM operatives continues for 3rd day

The custodial interrogation of two suspected IM operatives continued for the third day today in connection with the February 21 twin blasts at Dilsukhnagar here that left 16 people dead, NIA officials said.

“The questioning of Syed Maqbool and Imran Khan is continuing,” a senior NIA officer said even as he denied reports being carried by TV channels that two more suspects were picked up by the agency.

“No one else apart from the two IM operatives (Maqbool and Imran) are being questioned,” he said.

Omar regime’s policies worsened Kashmir situation: Mehbooba

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti Sunday blamed the deteriorating situation in Kashmir in the aftermath of Afzal Guru’s hanging on the Omar Abdullah government’s deviation from the “healing touch policy” of her party.

“The result of ignoring the PDP’s viewpoint on Afzal Guru is that Kashmir is again on boil,” she said at addressing a public meeting at Purmandal, 30 km south west of Jammu.

Kashmir tense over ‘mysterious’ death of student

Tension gripped south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday after reports of a Kashmiri student’s death, in Hyderabad, under mysterious circumstances, spread in Srinagar.

Markets were shut and traffic went off the roads as the news of the mysterious death of a student belonging to Parigam village of Pulwama spread in the district. The student was enrolled in an institute in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

Reports reaching in Srinagar said Mudasir, the Kashmiri student, was found dead in his room under mysterious circumstances on Sunday morning.

KCR demands equal rights for women

The TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao today called for greater efforts to ensure that women get equal rights and opportunities.

Modi’s remark triggers war of words between Cong, BJP

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s attack on Congress, likening it to termites, today triggered a war of words between leaders of the two parties.

Modi lashed out at the “commission-seeking” Congress-led UPA government which is destroying the nation like a termite.

“Congress is destroying this country like termites. It is very difficult to deal with termites – you finish them in one place and they rise in another. The only medicine for this ailment is sweat of the BJP worker,” he told the BJP National Council meeting here.

Don’t tolerate corruption, Advani tells BJP

Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani Sunday urged party president Rajnath Singh to adopt a “zero tolerance” policy against corruption and called upon party workers to ensure success in the upcoming elections.

“On the issue of corruption, the party must adopt very strict norms,” Advani said in his concluding remarks at BJP’s national council meet.

The BJP veteran said there was a mood in the country against corruption, which was proved by the support to Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement.

He, however, said that the party “failed to read and respond adequately to the mood”.

Bangladesh FM condemns Jamaat-e-Islami attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Mar. 3 (ANI): Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni on Sunday condemned reports of Jamaat-e-Islami activists attacking minority Hindus and their temples in different parts of the country.

“It is unfortunate and deplorable. The (Bangladesh) government will not tolerate any attempt to destabilize the country, or allow any breach of communal harmony,” Moni said on the sidelines of her meeting with visiting Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.

Tension in Pulwama after student’s mysterious death in Hyderabad

Pulwama (Jammu and Kashmir), Mar. 3 (ANI): There was high tension in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday after a student from the district was found dead in a university in Hyderabad under mysterious circumstances.

The youth, identified as Mudasir, was found dead in his room in the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) in Hyderabad on Sunday morning.

His family members and locals in Pulwama protested and mourned after news of Mudasir”s passing reached them.

Khaleda Zia calls off meeting with Mukherjee

Bangladesh opposition leader and former prime minister Khaleda Zia has cancelled her meeting with visiting Indian President Pranab Mukherjee citing security concerns amid a strike called by a former party ally, Jamaat-e-Islami.

Zia, who had called on Mukherjee when she visited India last October, was scheduled to meet the Indian president Monday.

However, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson has cancelled the meeting.

Chidambaram to do first Hangout with netizens on Budget

In an internet-based move to bring Budget 2013-14 to the people, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram will take questions on its proposals Monday on a multi-party online video conference on Google+ Hangout.

It will be the first time any cabinet minister is using the internet to interact with citizens and to answer queries on the union budget, a finance ministry release said Sunday.

Chidambaram will respond to netizens’ questions on Budget 2013-14 at 8 p.m. Monday.

Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara recorded India’s highest-second wicket partnership against Australia on way to putting their team on top in the second cricket Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here Sunday.

Kin of Blast victims Paid RS 6 Lakhs each

The State government is taking measures to extend all possible assistance to the kin of those killed in the twin blasts at Dilsukhnagar on February 21.

A press release from the Chief Minister’s Office has stated that the kin of 16 members, who died in the blasts, were paid ex gratia of Rs 6 lakhs each. While 100 people, who suffered simple injuries were treated in the hospitals at the government’s expenses, 62 of them were discharged after full recovery. Among the remaining, 24 persons were paid Rs one lakh each and 38 people were given Rs 50,000.

Over 1.30 lakh apply for EAMCET

Nearly 1.30 lakh students have applied for the Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) to be held on May 10.

While 95,000 applications have been received for the Engineering stream, nearly 35,000 students have applied for Medicine through online since February 15. The last date for submission of applications without additional fee is March 27. However, the last date for receipt of applications with a fine of Rs 10,000 is May 7.

Justice done to AP in Rly Budget: Kotla

Minister of State for Railways Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy on Sunday denied allegations that injustice was done to the State in the Railway Budget for 2013-14.

Talking to reporters at Gadwal, where he came to attend a private function, Surya Prakash Reddy said that the State got its share in the Railway Budget and no injustice was done as being alleged by the opposition parties. YSRCP padayatra for Jagan’s release

Hundreds of YSR Congress activists on Sunday organised a 24-km long Padayatra from Ramachandrapuram to Bontapalli Veerabhadraswamy Temple in Medak district seeking the release of their party president Jaganmohan Reddy from jail.

The padayatra, led by YSRCP leader C Anji Reddy, was flagged off by district Convener B Jagapti. Speaking on the occasion, the YSRCP leaders alleged that Jagan was arrested and lodged in jail on false cases. Therefore, they demanded that Jagan be released from jail immediately. (INN)

Rich tributes were paid to former Lok Sabha Speaker GMC Balayogi on his 11th death anniversary.

Telugu Desam Party leaders led by former minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu paid floral tributes to Balayogi at a function held at party’s headquarters NTR Trust Bhavan. The leaders recalled the services rendered by Balayogi as a legislator and later as a Parliamentarian.

Haj Committee member Mohamed Baig was killed in a road accidednt at Jukranpalli on the national highway here on Sunday.

Baig and another person travelling in a van were killed in the mishap, according to police. The mishap occurred when the vehicle in which they were travelling turned turtle. (INN)
