Congress takes on Modi for using derogatory language against PM

Congress Party on Monday took potshots at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for using derogatory language against Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in his address at the BJP”s National Council meeting.

Congress Spokesperson P.C. Chacko said the derogatory language that Modi used in that meeting against the honourable Prime Minister of the country is unbecoming of a leader of his stature.

Doherty says Australia have lot of work to do

Australia’s left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty is pleased with the effort of the tweakers Monday but said his team still has a lot of work to do to be back in the second Test against India.

Doherty, whose selection came under criticism from former Australian cricketers, said the team needs to bat through the fourth day to take the Test to the fifth day.

Australia, ar 74 for two in the second innings, trail by 192 runs.

AP government shuts down 42 sex determination centres

Andhra Pradesh government has shut down 42 sex determination centres recently to check the declining child sex ratio in the state, Andhra Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister D L Ravindra Reddy told reporters here today.

Government officials conducted 173 decoy operations, 6,560 inspections, 226 search and seizures so far, to implement the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostics (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, he said.

Delhi woman killed for spitting

A 70-year-old woman was killed by a man on whom she accidentally spat, a police official said Monday.

The incident was reported from a vegetable market in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area around 9 p.m. Sunday.

The victim, identified as Munni Devi, was killed by a man identified as Arjun, 30, on whom she had accidentally spat.

“Arjun got enraged and had a heated argument with the elderly woman before slashing her neck with a sharp-edged weapon. He was arrested and booked in a murder case,” the officer said.

Maharashtra Congress challenges Modi’s claims

The Maharashtra Congress Monday picked holes in the speech delivered by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Sunday at the BJP’s national executive meet in New Delhi.

Maharasthra Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Sachin Sawant took umbrage at Modi’s statement claiming Gujarat had successfully plugged leaks in the Gujrat State Electricity Board to make it a profitable venture.

Mukesh Ambani again tops India’s 55 billionaires

Fifty-five Indians, led by Reliance India chairman Mukesh Ambani, figure in the Forbes annual list of a record 1,426 billionaires, topped by Mexican telecom magnate Carlos Slim Helu for the fourth year in a row.

Ambani, 55, with a net worth of $21.5 billion is 22nd on the US business magazine’s 27th annual ranking released Monday.

He is followed by steel moghul Lakshmi Mittal, 62, with a net worth of $16.5 billion. Mittal is 41st in the world ranking with Wipro chairman Azim Premji, 67, with $11.2 billion taking the third place among Indians with a world ranking of 91.

Case against Priyamani, Anushka

A private case was filed against film stars Anushka and Priyamani for wearing indecent attire in films.

The complaint was lodged by a social activist Subuddi at Malkhajgiri police station. In the complaint he alleged that the two stars were wearing indecent attire in their films.

While Anushka in her forthcoming film is said to be wearing the attire made of leaves for the tribal queen character, Priyamani was wearing objectionable dress in the film Chandi. The films are yet to be released. (INN)

HC admits plea against Polavaram tenders

Polavaram tenders issue is back to square one as the High Court admitted a writ petition against the allotment of bids to Transstroy India Limited.

A petition was filed against the allotment of tenders to the company in a hurry, while the issue was pending in a court. After admitting the petition, the court has posted the case to next week. (INN)

Inter exams from March 6

About 19 lakh students will take the Intermediate exams beginning from March 6.

The exams will be held from March 6 to 23. There are 2,633 exam centres across the state and the timings are from 9.00 am to 12 noon. (INN)

In view of the recent security threats and likelihood of the anti-social elements using the Cyber/ Internet Cafes to carry out their nefarious designs, the City Police has issued certain guidelines for safe usage of internet.

The owner of the Cyber Cafe shall take sufficient precautions so that computers and computer systems in the Cyber Cafe are not used for any illegal or criminal activity.

State handovers Dilsukhnagar twin blast case to NIA

The State Government on Monday decided to handover the Dilsukhnagar twin blasts case to the National Investigation Agency.

The decision was taken during the review meeting held by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy along with Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, Home Minister P Sabitha Indira Reddy, NIA Deputy Inspector General Dr A Ravi Shankar and other senior officials.

Ramesh Taurani signs two film deal with Akshay Kumar

Ramesh Taurani has signed Akshay Kumar for two films and the Bollywood star will reportedly get Rs.80 crore for the projects.

“Yes, we have signed Akshay Kumar for our next two films. The first will go on the floors in July first week and will be shot in Cape Town. The film will be co-directed by Sajid-Farhad, who were the dialogue writers for `Bol Bachchan`, `Golmaal Returns`, and `Housefull 2`. It will be a comedy film,” Ramesh Taurani of Tips told reporters.

“The second film will go on the floors in 2014. The director of the second film has not been decided yet,” he added.

Saudi- Indian expats fail to capitalize on India’s growing economy

Indian expatriates in Saudi Arabia struggle when they are repatriated to India, said Zahid Ali Khan, the chief editor of India’s largest Urdu daily Siasat.

Khan said that Indian expatriates who are accustomed to leading a comfortable lifestyle in the Kingdom are failing to adjust back home.
The same level of luxury can be unaffordable for economic reasons.

He observed that Indian expatriates should consider making strategic investments to assure them a life of comfort prior to returning to India indefinitely. Most expatriates, however, fail to identify priority areas for investment.

Man arrested at Sayeedabad, explosive material seized

Police informed that a man was arrested from Sayeedabad area and as many as 20 gelatin sticks were seized from his possession.

According to police Central Zone Task Force team apprehended a stone cutter, Bhaskar, when he was carrying gelatin sticks on his scooter. “Bhaskar was carrying the explosives without any valid documents. However, he has told interrogators that the gelatin sticks were meant for quarrying purpose,” a police officer said.

Dilsukhnagar blast: Investigative agencies fail to find clue

Investigative agencies carrying out investigations into Dilsukhnagar blast have not yet find any clue as to which force is behind the blast. Police failed to hunt down culprits even after 10 days of the blasts. They have focused their attention only on the two youth arrested from Hyderabad; Syed Maqbool and Imran Khan. Syed Maqbool was arrested by Delhi police special cell from Shaheennagar and which claimed that Maqbool was involved in Pune bomb blast. But Maharashtra anti terrorism squad rejected this police claim and didn’t arrest Maqbool in Pune blast.

Actress-politician Smriti Irani has turned down a role in Ekta Kapoor`s promotional series ‘Ek Thi Naayika’, as she is reluctant to portray a courtesan.

A Bharatiya Janata Party MP, Smriti prefers to be cautious about her professional decisions. When Ekta, who gave Smriti a huge platform with hit show ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ over a decade ago, asked the actress to play a nautch girl in an episode of ‘Ek Thi Naayika’, Smriti asked for a change. Ekta obliged, and asked Sakshi Tanwar to play the part instead.

Smriti will now feature in another story in the same show.

Youth knocked over by bus, died

20 year old Abu-Bakr died in a deadly road accident occurred near Errakunta, Barkas. It is said that Abu-Bakr was passing by Errakunta, when he was hit by a speedy bus belonging to Falaknuma depot. In the incident Abu-Bakr died on the spot.

Protesting against the incident local youth pelted stones at the RTC bus in which driver Srinivas suffered injuries. Pahadi Shareef police reached the spot and shifted Abu-Bakr’s body to the hospital and registred a case in this connection.

Satanic healing: Infants treated by Pooja water

In a hut near State Central Library, Afzalgunj, a Pujari named Chandulal and his two sons claim to cure infants’ ailments. At least 200 women were waiting for their turn carrying their infants in their lap. Shockingly out of the 200 women 180 were burqa-clad women. Chandulal chants some mantra, blows on the water and his sons give bath to the infants with that boiling water. If only they could speak, the poor infants would never forgive their mothers for this atrocious behaviour. This self-styled baba gives a betel leaf to the women to chew. He says the betel leaf contains some herbs.

Veteran journalist Om Prakash Taneja passes away

Veteran journalist Om Prakash Taneja passed away after a heart attack a little after midnight.

He was 80.

Taneja worked for the Press Trust of India (PTI) at various places including New Delhi, Indore, Bahrain and Bhopal where he retired as the manager in 1994.

He leaves behind his wife, a son and a large number of friends to mourn his loss.

Tension in village after Dalit boy ‘misbehaves’ with girl

Tension prevailed in Papparappati village in the district after a Dalit boy allegedly misbehaved with an upper caste teenage girl at a fancy store where she was working as sales assistant.

Police said the boy allegedly pinched her when she was busy searching for recharge coupons which he had asked. The girl caught him red handed and a verbal altercation followed.

On hearing the commotion, a woman working in an adjacent shop rushed to the spot and admonished the man. However, he reportedly threatened both women and left the spot.

Priyanka Gandhi undergoes operation in Delhi

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra underwent a surgery at a Delhi hospital on Monday.

Sources told Zee News that Ms Gandhi was operated for some gall stone problem at the Shri Ganga Ram Hospital in the capital.

The operation was successfully carried out via the minimum invasive procedure. Her health condition is currently under observation; she would be discharged tomorrow morning.

Her brother and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi visited her at the hospital.

Bomb hurled outside Prez Pranab’s hotel in Dhaka

A homemade crude bomb of low intensity was hurled on Monday outside the Sonargaon Pan-Pacific hotel in Dhaka where President Pranab Mukherjee is staying.

No one was injured in the blast which took place around 2 pm, said Apoorva Hassan, the officer in-charge of Tejgaon police station.

Two persons came on a motorcycle and hurled the bomb wrapped in a cap near the SAARC fountain, about 50 yards away from the hotel at a street intersection, he said.
