APSRTC to run 1645 special bus services for sivarathri

On the occasion of Maha Shivrathri festival on March 10, the APSRTC management has decided to run 1,645 special bus services to Srisailam, Edupayalu and Vemulawada from March 8 to 11for the convenience of the devotees.

According to Greater Hyderabad APSRTC Zone executive director Koteshwara Rao, 275 special bus services will be run from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station to Srisailam, 453 buses from Mahbubnagar to Srisailam, 24 buses from Medak to Srisailam, 428 bus services from Medak to Edupayalu, 175 bus services from JBS Secunderabad to Vemulawada.

Ponnala case adjourned to March 11

The Andhr Pradesh High Court has posted the election petition of IT Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah to March 11.

Ponnala’s election was challenged by his nearest rival Kommuri Prathap Reddy (TRS) following a narrow win from the Jangoan assembly segment. After hearing the case, the court posted the hearing to March 11.

NCW seeks probe in Punjab woman’s thrashing

The National Commission for Women (NCW) Tuesday asked the Punjab Police chief to probe the attack on a woman by policemen in the state’s Tarn Taran district.

The NCW has issued a notice to the Punjab’s director general of police (DGP) to investigate the incident and apprise the commission about the actual facts of the case along with action taken report within three days.

The commission took suo motu cognizance of the media reports of the incident and sent the notice, NCW sources said.

Kacheguda-Guntur-Secunderabad Passenger Train timing to be revised

The South Central Railway will revise the timings of Train No 57305 / 57306 Kacheguda-Guntur-Secunderabad Passenger Train from June 5th.

Further, the destination of Train No. 57306 Guntur-Secunderabad Passenger will be changed to Kacheguda instead of Secunderabad from June 5, 2013. According to the SCR, the Train No 57305 Kacheguda-Guntur Passenger train will depart Kacheguda at 3 PM instead of 03.30 PM and arrive Guntur at 08.45 AM (existing time) on the next day.

Governor cancels Maqbool’s remission

The remission granted to Syed Maqbool, an alleged operative of terrorist outfit Indian Mujahideen, has been cancelled.

Governor ESL Narasimham on Tuesday signed the file relating to the cancellation of remission granted by the State Government earlier. The file was sent to the Governor by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy following recommendation by the senior ministers and officials during the review meeting held on Monday.

Maqbool is also accused of carrying out recce to conduct bomb blast at Dilsukhnagar and other places in the city.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will inaugurate the Mahindra’s Tractor Plant at Zahirabad on Wednesday.

According to the CMO, the Chief Minsiter will reach Zahirabad by helicopter from Begumpet airport at 3.00 pm on Wednesday and proceed to Mahindra & Mahindra Farm Division to inaugurate the new Tractor Plant in the Factory premises at 3.20 pm and visit the Tractor Plant.

The Chief Minister will also address the gathering from 4 pm to 4.45 pm. He will return to Begumpet Airport by helicopter at 4.50 pm and reach Camp Residence at 5.30 pm. (INN)

Heroic acts of lesser-known women revolutionaries from 20th century undivided Bengal have come to life through rare photographs at the Women Revolutionaries of Bengal exhibition that began here Monday.

“We gathered the photographs based on Intelligence Bureau files. We found mention of 173 women convicted during the early part of the 20th century from undivided Bengal. Out of these, 118 have been displayed at the exhibition,” Simonti Sen, director, West Bengal State Archives, told IANS.

Former Maldivian president Mohammed Nasheed was arrested Tuesday, causing a fresh uproar and protests in this capital city, Xinhua reported.

Nasheed was arrested just outside his house by around 20 police personnel, who took him
away without an explanation, Xinhua reported citing Nasheed’s Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) spokesperson Hameed Abdul Gafoor.

“They just took him. We do not know why and we do not know where he has been taken,” Gafoor said.

Village girl recalls Punjab Police brutality in Tarn Taran

A village girl, who was brutally assaulted by police in Punjab’s Tarn Taran District, recalled her trauma on Tuesday and demanded the dismissal of all officials who had thrashed her on the roadside.

Harvinder Kaur told journalists in Tarn Taran that some cab drivers had harassed her, and when she and her father went to the police to file a complaint, they refused to help, and instead, started beating her up.

Hyd blast: Non-bailable warrants issued against IM founder Bhatkal, 9 others

Non-bailable warrants(NBWs) were today issued by a Delhi court against Indian Mujahideen founder Riyaz Bhatkal and nine other operatives of the banned outfit in connection with the February 21 Hyderabad twin blasts which claimed 16 lives.

During in-chamber hearing, District Judge IS Mehta issued the NBWs against Pakistan-based Riyaz Bhatkal, Iqbal Bhatkal, Mohsim Chaudhary, Amir Reza Khan, Dr Shahnawaz Alam, Asadullah Akhtar, Ariz Khan, Mohd Khalid, Mirza Shadaab Beg and Mohd Sajid, who all are alleged IM operatives.

Prohibitory orders around inter exam centres

City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma, in a notification, prohibited assembling of persons around 500 yards at all the examination centers of intermediate examinations to be held from March 6 to 23rd.

The Police Officers, Military personnel, Home Guards on duty Flying Squad of Education Department and Bonafide funeral procession are exempted from the operation of this order. He further added that any person violating the above orders shall be liable for prosecution under section 144 Cr.PC. (INN)

Dhoni becomes most successful India Test captain

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has become the most successful Indian Test captain, surpassing Sourav Ganguly after India won the second cricket Test against Australia by an innings and 135 runs here Tuesday.

The 31-year-old Dhoni, who has recorded two World Cup wins (2007-T20, 2011-ODI), now has 22 Test wins, one more than Ganguly.

Mohammed Azharuddin is third with 14 wins while Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and Sunil Gavaskar are tied on fourth with nine wins each.

Minor raped at gunpoint in UP

A minor girl was allegedly raped at gun point by two youths in Wazirnagar village of the district, police said today.

The 16-year-old was intercepted by the youths, one of whom was identified as Ranu, when he was going to attend a nature’s call yesterday, they said.

On a complaint by victim’s parents, a case of rape was lodged against the absconding accused and efforts are on to nab them, they said.

BJP demands CBI probe in farmers’ loan waiver ‘scam’

The BJP Tuesday alleged that nearly 34 lakh farmers had been denied their right under the loan waiver scheme of the UPA government and demanded a CBI inquiry to unearth the real extent of the “scam”.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has checked only about 90,000 accounts out of 3.5 crore accounts of farmers.

“CAG has found out that 13 percent eligible farmers were not considered by lending institutions. Also 8.5 percent ineligible beneficiaries got benefits,” Javadekar said.

A new study has shed light on how a common anesthesia drug creates loss of consciousness in patients undergoing surgery.

Tracking the brain activity in human volunteers over a two-hour period as they lost and regained consciousness, researchers from MIT and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) have identified distinctive brain patterns associated with different stages of general anesthesia.

The findings could help doctors better monitor patients during surgery and prevent rare cases of patients waking up during operations.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dipu Moni on Saturday said the government is considering a demand by civil society activists to ban the country”s top Islamist party, the Jamaat-e-Islami, for spearheading ongoing clashes bordering on militant activity.

Moni said: ”There has been a demand from the Projonmo Chottor (Shahbag Circle) and it is now everywhere that they be banned, that Jamaat be banned and government will definitely consider this”.
