Hyderabad blasts: Five young students among 14 dead

A trip to purchase books for the exam of sub-inspector in Excise department proved to be the last outing of Vijay Kumar, who was among the five students killed in the twin blasts in the city.

Among the other students killed was Rajasekhar, who was pursuing MBA, Harish, an engineering student from Kottapet locality in the city, and Swapna, another MBA student.

Vijay Kumar had come to the site to purchase some books as he was preparing to take the examination for the post of sub-inspector in Prohibition and Excise department when the blast took place.

If Tendulkar retires, Test cricket will die: Ranatunga

Sri Lanka’s World Cup-winning former captain Arjuna Ranatunga feels Test cricket would “die” if players like Sachin Tendulkar call it quits.

“If players like him (Tendulkar) don’t play the longer version of the game, Test cricket will die. I pray to God he continues to play Test cricket. I was very happy to know he has retried from ODIs. For me Test is education and the shorter versions are entertainment,” Ranatunga told PTI.

Ranatunga, who guided Sri Lanka to their first and only World Cup title in 1996, said Tendulkar still has a lot of cricket left in him.

The United States on Thursday strongly condemned the terrorist bombings in Hyderabad that killed a dozen people and offered assistance in investigation if requested by the Indian government.

US Secretary of State John Kerry, who is scheduled to meet visiting Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai, in a few hours would also personally convey his condolences on the terrorist attacks in Hyderabad, his spokesperson told reporters at the Foggy Bottom headquarters of the State Department.

Honourary president YSR Congress Mrs. Vijayamma condemned blasts at Dilsukhnagar and expressed condolences to the family members of the victims. She told that had the government and police been vigilant, after receiving the warning from the centre, the blasts could have been averted.

Hyderabad blasts: Death toll rises to 15, over 100 injured

Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Friday morning visited the site of twin blasts in Hyderabad.

Shinde, who reached Hyderabad by a special flight this morning, drove straight to Dilsukhnagar and went around the blast site and met the inured in the hospital.

Speaking to reporters later, Shinde said a total of 14 people died in the powerful blasts that took place Thursday evening and 119 others were injured in the attack. Minutes later, another injured succumbed to injuries taking the toll to 15.

Commissioner appeals to Muslims not to bring any bag to Makkah Masjid

Mr. Anurag Sharma, City Police Commissioner has requested the Muslims coming to Makkah Masjid for offering Friday prayer not to bring any bang with them.

Innocent Pakistanis have been victims of terrorism, the United States said on Thursday, adding that the menace poses a greater threat to the country as a whole.

“It is no secret that innocent Pakistanis have been victims of terrorism in the thousands and thousands,” State Department spokesperson, Victoria Nuland, told reporters at her daily news conference.

“This is one of the reasons that we work so hard with the government of Pakistan to strength, deepen and improve the counterterrorism relationship that we have,” she said.

Hyderabad blasts: BJP calls for shutdown in Andhra Pradesh

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a shutdown in Andhra Pradesh on Friday to condemn the twin bomb blasts here, which killed 14 people and injured over 100.

BJP state president G Kishan Reddy appealed to all people to voluntarily observe the shutdown to protest the blasts and show their sympathies with the victims’ families.

Talking to reporters, he said the state government failed to take steps to prevent the blasts despite warnings from the central intelligence agencies. He demanded the government to act firmly against terrorists.

Sarmad Alladin, son of a millionaire from Hyderabad, was taken to hospital hours after taking tablet which contained the drug DNP, which has been linked to several deaths.

According to a report in The Sun, the student known as Mr Muscles has died after apparently taking “lethal” body-building pills to help him lose weight.

Fitness fanatic Alladin was taken to hospital just hours after praising the fat-burning tablets called DNP on Facebook.

Union Home Minister Shinde visits blast scene

Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde Friday visited the scene of the twin bomb blasts, which claimed 14 lives and injured over 100.

Shinde, who arrived here early Friday, drove to Dilsukhnagar and inspected the blast scene along with Andhra Pradesh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, state Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy and other officials.

Director General of Police Dinesh Reddy briefed Shinde about the two near-simultaneous blasts in the crowded area.

In such cases, it is essential to keep the site of the incident safe because there is an apprehension that necessary evidences could be destroyed. Obama’s job approval rating reaches three-year high in new poll

President Barack Obama has gained his highest approval rating as commander-in-chief of the US in over three years, a new poll has found.

A Bloomberg National Poll found that 55 percent of Americans approve of Obama’s performance, his highest rating in the poll since September 2009.

The poll also found that 49 percent of respondents believe that the president’s proposals to increase government spending in key areas are more likely to spur job creation than GOP-backed efforts to cut both spending and taxes, the Huffington Post reports.

All Courts In State Will Be Synchronized With SC: Justice Eshwaraiah

The contract workers in the Osmania University staged a dharna before the Administrative Block on Thursday demanding immediate hike in their wages.

The contract workers raised slogans demanding that the University administration increase their wages in proportion to the rising prices of the essential commodities. They also demanded that OU authorities regularize the services of contract workers on the basis of seniority. Their other demands were Maternity Leave to women employees and strict implementation of Labour Laws.
