Chiru for strengthening Intelligence

Union Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi stressed the need to strengthen Intelligence system in the country.
Visiting the blast site near Dilsukhnagar on Friday, Chiranjeevi said the bombing incident could not be the cause of security failure, but there was need to strengthen intelligence as it would affect the Tourism sector. In this regard, he called on Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Human trafficking ring busted in Malaysia

Malaysian police today rescued 21 children, aged between one month and nine years, with the arrest of 43 members of a human trafficking syndicate.

The 10 boys and 11 girls were rescued after police launched a simultaneous operation in seven states yesterday,
Star online said today.

We are also working closely with Interpol on a few of the children believed to have been taken to neighbouring
countries,” Penang state police chief Deputy Comm Abdul Rahim Hanafi told a press conference.

DK Aruna consoles injured in Care hospital

Information & Public Relations Minister D. K. Aruna on Friday said the injured blast victims were being treated at corporate hospitals.
Aruna visited the blast victims Sai Rohit Goud and Yadaiah Goud in Nampally Care hospital and consoled them. Dr Ramakrishna and Dr Manohar informed the minister that at least six among 20 injured were in critical condition.

Tension grips UP-Har border village after farmer,mafia clashes

Tension prevailed in Shitalghari village in Shamli district after clashes broke out between farmers and sand mafia involved in picking sand from fields near the Yamuna river, police said.

As many as 50 people were made to sign a bond yesterday as a preventive measure after the clashes in the village located on UP-Haryana border, police said.

Guj riots victim takes ‘Rajdhani Express’ producers to court

The producer and director of ‘Rajdhani Express’ were issued notices by a court here on a criminal complaint filed by Qutubuddin Ansari, known as the ‘face’ of 2002 post-Godhra riots, seeking monetary damages for using his photo without consent.

Metropolitan Magistrate I M Sardar yesterday ordered the producer of the movie, Manoj Kejriwal, and director Ashok Kohli to file their replies while fixing the next hearing for March 18.

Ansari’s photograph had gone viral in 2002.

Security at Shamshabad airport stepped up

In the wake of bomb blasts in Dilsukhnagar, the city police tightened the security measures at Shamshabad Airport as VIPs were pouring into the city to inspect the bomb blast site at Dilsukhnagar. Rapid Action Force personnel entered into the scene along with the local police.

On the other hand, the police heaved a sigh of relief as Friday prayers ended peacefully. The police also tightened the security in Old City and increasing patrolling as the BJP observed bandh. The police set up metal detectors at all the mosques and checked the namazis with bomb squads. (NSS)

First NATO death in a month in Afghanistan

A NATO soldier was killed by an improvised bomb blast today, the military said, the first coalition death in a month as international forces wind-down their operations.

NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement that the soldier died in an improvised
explosive device attack in southern Afghanistan.

In line with policy, ISAF did not disclose the soldier’s nationality or provide any further details.

The last ISAF death was on January 23 — the eighth soldier to die that month, according to icasualties.org.

TMC workers assault cops, vandalise police station

Trinamool Congress workers today assaulted three policemen on duty and vandalised a police station in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, officials said here.

Police said the TMC workers had gone to Bongaon police station to submit a deputation against a local gram panchayat member for allegedly swindling MNREGA funds.

Trouble broke out when the party workers enraged with the absence of the officer-in-charge went on a rampage and
assaulted three policemen and smashed furniture of the police station, they said.

Iran rejects Nigeria spying allegation

Iran today rejected it had committed any “illegal act” in Nigeria after the West African nation’s secret police arrested three Nigerians accused of spying for the Islamic republic.

Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was quoted in media reports as saying he “rejected Nigerian and
Western media reports of illegal activities by the Islamic republic in Nigeria”.

Amir-Abdollahian said relations between Iran and Nigeria were “developing” and urged officials of the two nations to prevent such accusations from being made.

Chidambaram to launch CPC (TDS) tomorrow

Finance Minister P Chidambaram will launch the Centralised Processing Cell for Tax Deducted at Source (CPC-TDS) tomorrow, a move likely to ease the compliance procedure for taxpayers.

The CPC (TDS) will provide the tax deductors, taxpayers and the assessing officers a wide range of online services related to TDS through a functionality designated TDS Reconciliation, Analysis and Correction Enabling System (TRACES),” a statement issued by Finance Ministry said.

Professor falls into pit; dies

A professor at a private college was killed today after he fell into a pit dug by the local municipal body for laying sewer lines, police said.

Divya Kumar Nigam, 32, had gone for a morning walk when he accidentally fell in the pit filled with water near the
community centre in Dhanvantri Nagar area, they said.

Locals immediately took him out and rushed him to the Government Medical College but he was declared dead on
admission.

A case has been registered in this regard and further investigations are on, police added.

An FIR will be lodged against eight candidates after a probe into irregularities in recruitment test by state power corporation found prima facie evidence of paper being leaked to kin of employees, uploaded on a site and
examinees prompted via SMS during test, officials today said.

Punjab State Power Corporation Limited Chairman-cum- Managing Director K D Chaudhary gave his nod for registration of criminal case against eight candidates following the inquiry conducted by Powercom DGP Sanjiv Gupta and later by DIG, Cyber crime, Vijay Partap Singh.

CSB offers rights shares to mobilse Rs 78.46 cr

Private sector Catholic Syrian Bank has decided to offer rights share with a premium of Rs 65 per share with a face value of Rs 10 each, for about Rs 78.46 crore.

Company Secretary of the Thrissur based bank, Sijo Varghese told PTI here today that the record date had been
fixed for March 2.

It was decided at a meeting of the board of directors earlier this month to offer 1,04,61,781 equity shares of Rs 10 each for cash at a premium of Rs 65 per share to existing shareholders of the bank in the ratio of one new share for every three existing shares, he said.

Man arrested in train theft case

A 24-year-old man was arrested for alleged involvement in a train theft case, police said today.

Mohd Tausif, who had bought stolen jewels worth Rs 20 lakh from a thief, has confessed to the crime.

He admitted to buying the stolen jewels from Manipur native Andrew Roberts who stole the valuables in the Pooja
Express train at Ajmer on February 13.

Additional Commissioner of Police, Central Delhi, said they had received information on Tausif’s whereabouts
yesterday acting on which search operations were conducted to nab the culprit.

Marines case: Govt dragging feet on special court, says SC

The Supreme Court today questioned the government as to why it was “dragging its feet” on the issue of setting up a special court for holding trial of two Italian marines, accused of shooting dead two Indian fishermen.

The apex court also took exception to the Centre not following its January 18 direction to consult the Chief
Justice of India to set up a special court to try the case.

Why the Centre is dragging its feet? Nobody has made attempt for consultation for setting up of court,” a bench
headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir said.

LeJ leader arrested over attacks on Shias

The leader of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, responsible for terror attacks on the minority Shia sect that killed nearly 200 in Quetta, was arrested by police in Pakistan’s Punjab province today.

Malik Ishaq was taken into “protective custody” for a month under the Maintenance of Public Order law from his
residence in Rahim Yar Khan district, 400 km from Lahore.

Before the arrest, Ishaq held an hour-long meeting with district police chief Sufail Zafar and agreed to “surrender”, sources said.

Assist each other in pursuit of justice: India tells US

As it seeks the extradition of Pakistani-American terrorist David Headley from the US, India has stressed on the need for the two sides to commit to the goal of assisting each other in the pursuit of justice.

Without directly mentioning 26/11 convict Headley, Mathai said, “We are aware of the specificities of legal procedure and their requirements but we need to commit to the goal of assisting our authorities in the pursuit of justice.”

Sachhakhera gang-rape: 2 get life term

Almost four months after a teenage girl killed herself after being gang-raped by two youths in Sachhakhera village, a local court today sentenced the main accused and his accomplice to life imprisonment.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Jind R N Bharati also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 each on Pradeep and Sandeep.

The case had grabbed news headlines and UPA chief Sonia Gandhi also visited the village to meet the victim’s parents.

The third accused is a minor and is being tried in a juvenile court.

Two persons found dead

Two persons were found dead today in Kwarsi area in Aligarh district, police sources said here.

Bodies of two persons, one of them around 50-years-old and another in his thirties, were recovered in Manjoorghari area, they said.

Prima facie it seemed one person was strangulated to death and the other had died due to head injury, they said.

Hyderabad blasts: Khurshid calls for national unity

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Friday called for national unity in wake of the twin bomb blasts in Hyderabad, and termed it as an act of external aggression.

Khurshid said it is time that India stands united to fight terror.

“We should take out ideology and our society towards the proper path so that we can stand together in unity and face our enemies. Our enemies are repeatedly attacking us. If we have to counter them effectively then we can do it only by national unity,” Khurshid told media in New Delhi.

Pak asks Afghanistan to handover captured militants

Pakistan has asked Afghanistan to hand over all persons engaged in “anti-Pakistan activities”, including a senior Taliban commander captured by Afghan forces earlier this week.

Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul had informed his Pakistan counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar about the capture of Pakistani Taliban commander Maulvi Faqir Mohammad during a telephone conversation on Wednesday night, Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Khan said yesterday.
