Class VIII question paper leaked in Jammu, probe ordered

A Class VIII board examination question paper was leaked, following which Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a probe into the incident and postpone the exams in Poonch district of the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand ordered a probe into the incident and two officials, who were found involved in the leakage of a question paper, have been placed under suspension, official spokesman said today.

Deputy Chief Minister has directed Deputy Commissioner Poonch to probe the leakage of question paper, he said.

Police quiz two-time terror survivor Abdul Mirza

Abdul Wasey Mirza, a 23-year-old unemployed youth who became the victim of a terror attack for the second time on Thursday during the Dilsukhnagar twin blasts, has been questioned by police which is not treating him as a suspect.

“As part of the investigations we only recorded his statement as a witness along with others,” Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma told PTI today.

When asked if Wasey was being treated as a suspect in the case, he said, “Nothing like that.”

Bomb threat to Ranga Reddy District Collectorate

Police became tizzy after a phone call was received from an unidentified person said that a bomb was planted in the Ranga Reddy district collectorate. The caller also said they planted bombs in different parts of the city, to cause explosions of the magnitude of the Dilsukhnagar blasts.

Soon after the call was received, staff of the collectorate ran out in fear. Police summoned bomb and dog squads and started intensive search of the office. Police are also engaged in search in other important areas.

30 per cent polling in the first three hours in Nagaland

Around 30 per cent votes were cast in the first three hours of polling in Nagaland, where election is on for its 60-member House today amidst unprecedented security.

Election is, however, being held for 59 seats today following the sudden death of Congress candidate P Chuba Chang of Teunsang sadar seat here yesterday.

The Election Commission has adjourned the polling in the constituency for a later date.

Man kills cousin sister over alleged affair with neighbour

A teenaged girl was allegedly killed by her cousin brother over her relationship with a neighbour here, police said on Saturday.

18-year-old Monica was in a relationship with her neighbour Monu (22). Irate over their relationship, accused Arun went to Monica’s home yesterday and asked her to end the affair.

Monica rejected his offer following which enraged Arun choked her to death, said police officer Vikas Tripathi.

Arun later handed himself to police and said that he was frequently teased by Monu’s friends over his sister’s relationship.

Govt. and police negligence led to blasts

Terming Dilsukhnagar blasts as government and police failure, TRS MLA Pocharam Srinivas told that had police maintained vigilance the blasts could have been averted. Speaking to press persons Pocharam Srinivas Reddy told that the blasts are deplorable and unforgettable tragedy for many families. Many families lost their heads of the family and bread earners due to the blasts. It is the responsibility of the government to help those hapless families.

Security tightened at Indo-Nepal border after blasts

In the wake of Hyderabad blasts, the Uttar Pradesh and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have stepped up vigil along the Indo-Nepal border to prevent any untoward incidents.

The security agencies have been asked to ascertain the identities of people before allowing them to cross over through the border, commandant SSB K S Bankothi said.

Old city under tight security arrangements following blasts

Elaborate security arrangements were made by the police in old city Hyderabad on the occasion of Friday prayers. Additional forces were deployed at important locations.

Following blast at Dilsukhnagar on Thursday evening in which 17 people were killed police maintained high alert in the city. In the wake of bandh called by BJP on Friday, south zone police had cordoned off the sensitive areas.

Polling postponed at a Nagaland constituency

The polling for the Tuensang Sadar I assembly constituency in Nagaland has been postponed after the death of Congress candidate and sitting MLA P. Chuba Chang at a hospital in Kohima Friday.

Chang (49) was ailing and he breathed his last at a private hospital in Kohima Friday.

Nagaland Joint Chief Electoral Officer N Moa Aier said this Saturday and added that they have written to the Election Commission of India, which is likely to announce a fresh date for holding the polls in the constituency.

“The polling to the Tuensang Sadar I constituency was adjourned…,” said Aier.

IM terrorist Maqbool interrogated

The Delhi Police interrogated an alleged Indian Mujahideen terrorist, Sayed Maqbool, for five hours on Friday in connection with Hyderabad twin bomb blasts.

Maqbool was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police from a place in Hyderabad last October.

Maqbool, who is currently in Tihar jail, had earlier said that the outfit was planning terror strikes in some places in Hyderabad for which recce had been carried out.

Sayed Maqbool alias Zuber, 35, who is now in custody, had trained his associates to manufacture improvised explosive devices (IED) to carry out the blasts.

Premji gifts Rs.12,300 crores to his trust

Wipro chairman Azim Premji Friday transferred 12 percent (295.5 million) of the IT bellwether’s shares, valued at Rs.12,300 crore (Rs.123 billion/$2.3 billion), to an endowment trust headed by him.

The transferred shares were held by entities controlled by Premji.

As a result, the trust’s shareholding in the company has increased to 19.93 percent, including 7.93 percent of shares transferred in 2010 when the trust was set up.

Blasts meticulously planned

Preliminary investigations by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have revealed that the twin blasts here on Thursday were meticulously planned and executed as the perpetrators had even tampered with CCTV cameras around the blast sites.

The NIA investigators, who took over the probe, found that the wires of the CCTV cameras around Dilsukhnagar were cut a few days ahead of the blasts. Though the authorities concerned were informed of the damage, the person entrusted with the repair work did not turn up, further strengthening suspicions of foul play.

US, Japan discuss additional sanctions against North Korea

US President Barack Obama and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met here Friday for talks that included the possibility of imposing new sanctions on North Korea in retaliation for Pyongyang’s recent test of a nuclear device.

Hyderabad bombings: CCTV image may provide breakthrough

The probe into Thursday’s twin blasts, which killed 16 people and injured over 100, gathered momentum with the police scanning the image of a suspect captured on CCTV camera.

The investigators are scanning the images recorded on a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) camera mounted on a traffic signal near the blast site in Dilsukhnagar, police sources said.

A man believed to be in his early thirties was seen reaching the place on a bicycle with a bag hung to its carrier a few minutes before the blasts.

Venkaiah Naidu visits Hyderabad blast sites

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader M. Venkaiah Naidu visited the bomb blast sites here on Saturday.

Naidu earlier on Friday took on Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde over the Hyderabad blasts in Parliament. Naidu wanted a discussion on the issue in Parliament, a demand that was supported by the opposition benches.

Naidu yesterday said that the attacks by the militants could not have been possible without some internal help and logistical support.

Meghalaya voters defy shutdown, cast ballot

Ballotting was peaceful Saturday morning across Meghalaya as people came out to vote despite a shutdown called by an outlawed group.

Over 1.5 million voters – about half the population of the state – are eligible to decide the fate of 345 candidates, including 25 women and 122 independents. The state will elect its 60-member ninth assembly.

The State Election Office said polling began at 7 a.m. and will be held till 4 p.m. Ballotting is taking place at 2,485 polling booths, out of which 842 have been termed hyper-sensitive.

Voting begins for by-poll in Punjab

Braving heavy rain Saturday morning, people lined up at various polling booths to cast their votes in the by-election for the Moga assembly seat in Punjab.

Election officials said the voting would continue till 5 p.m. Ten candidates, including four independents, are in the fray.

The main contest is between the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal and the opposition Congress party. The Akali Dal has fielded Joginder Pal Jain against Congress candidate Vijay Kumar Sathi.

Azim Premji donates shares worth $2.3 bln to charity

Indian billionaire Azim Premji has donated shares worth 123 billion rupees in Wipro Ltd to a philanthropic trust he controls.

Premji transferred 295.5 million shares from his stake in Wipro to the trust that controls the Azim Premji Foundation, a not-for-profit organization working in the education sector in India.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the shares represent 12 percent of the total outstanding shares of Wipro, one of India’s largest outsourcing services company.

Anna Hazare’s painting by Tihar inmate fetches Rs 20,000

An oil painting of Anna Hazare by an inmate of India’s largest prison Tihar earned him Rs 20,000 in an exhibition, said jail officials.

“M Lankeshwaran, who is serving jail term for murder, made an oil painting of Anna Hazare which was put up in Tihar exhibition of paintings. A tourist bought it for Rs 20,000,” said a jail official on Friday.

In 2011, Anna Hazare had spent three days in Tihar when he was sent to jail ahead of his fast for a strong Lokpal Bill.
