US refuses to repatriate dead Russian child’s brother

A Russian toddler adopted in the US whose brother died in Texas under unclear circumstances would not be sent back to Russia, Texan authorities said.

The boy’s 23-year-old mother, Yulia Kuzmina, has asked to have her surviving son Kirill back.

CBS News reported that a spokesman for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services said that was out of the question.

“We’re a state agency in Texas that operates under Texas state laws and we wouldn’t be involved in doing anything other than placing that child within Texas,” Patrick Crimmins was cited as saying.

Two held at Bihar-Nepal border

Bihar police have arrested two persons while crossing the border suspiciously. One is said to have belonged to Hyderabad while the other is a foreigner. According to reliable sources police have taken Mohammed Alam of Hyderabad and Mohammed Abdullah citizen of Somalia into their custody.

The duo was trying to cross the border on foot secretively. Police have seized suspicious objects from their possession. Police seized information of important places, map of Secunderabad area and laptop and computer from Mohammed Alam resident of Hyderabad. Somali was traveling without passport.

Palestinian prisoner dies as hunger strike expands

A Palestinian prisoner has died in an Israeli jail, officials said, as the number of inmates on hunger strike climbed to 11, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club.

Arafat Jaradat was “arrested a few days ago. He was killed during the investigation,” the Palestinian minister in charge of prisoner affairs Issa Qaraqaa told AFP.

We demand the creation of an international commission of inquiry to probe the circumstances of his death,” Qaraqaa
said.

Yaseen Bhatkal Masterminded Blasts

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has found some vital clues in the twin blasts in the Dilsukhnagar area of the city.

Investigators of the elite agency have found that the dreaded terrorist masterminded the Hyderabad blasts. Bhatkal was also involved in the blasts at Pune, Delhi and Bengaluru. Several cases were registered against him in several parts of the country. However, he was evading arrest.
According to some reports, Yasin had escaped to Dubai and reached Pakistan from there. The reports said he has been operating from Pakistan ever since.

Tribal girl allegedly raped in Jhargram town

A tribal girl was allegedly raped by a youth at Jhargram town, police said today.

Superintendent of Police of Jhargram Bharati Ghosh said the girl, a class X student was returning home from private tuition at around 9 pm last night when a youth forcibly took her to a field at Bachur doba area and allegedly raped her.

The girl narrated the incident to her family.

The girl’s mother lodged a rape complaint at the Jhargram police station, the SP said.

A medical test of the girl was conducted, the SP said adding investigations were on.

9-yr-old girl raped in Faridabad

A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped twice by her neighbour’s son at SGM Nagar area here.

Rohit, son of Rita Sachdeva, raped twice the girl during the last eight-month period as the victim was staying with Sachdeva’s family with her mother’s consent,” police said today.

Earlier, Sachdeva had requested the victims’ mother to give the girl in her care.

The victim’s mother has a dispute with her husband and a case of divorce is pending in court, police said, adding, her mother had given consent to Sachdeva to take care of the girl.

Two cops, part of hit squads, held in Ishrat encounter case

The CBI has arrested two police officers who were part of as many squads that took part in the alleged fake encounter of teenage girl Ishrat Jahan and three others in 2004 in Gujarat.

Egypt’s President Mohamed Mursi is considering rescheduling parliamentary elections after Coptic Christians complained they would clash with the Easter period, his office said today.

Eve-teased, girl commits suicide

A 23-year-old girl who was subjected to eve teasing by a neighbour committed suicide by hanging herself at her home, police said today.

The incident took place at Chopda Mohalla yesterday when the victim was alone at her home, they said.

Her neighbour, one Manoj Kushwaha, allegedly used to tease her and upset with it, she hung herself from the ceiling
fan in the room yesterday when she was alone, they said quoting girl’s mother Hemlata Sharma.

Hemlata was living with her only daughter as her husband and son had died earlier, police said.

One killed, seven injured in Baluchistan violence

One person was killed and at least seven persons injured when gunmen opened fire on a rally of a religious party at Quetta in Baluchistan, police said.

Unknown motorcyclists opened fire at rally of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) at Liaquat Baazar but the assailants
had managed to escape, they said.

According to ASWJ leaders, Qari Amin a prayer leader at Bilal mosque in Korangi was shot dead by unknown assailants.

Soon after the incident, ASWJ workers staged a sit-in to protest against the shooting and pelted stones at passing vehicles.

Govt officer attacked during anti-encroachment drive

A senior state govenment official was attacked with stones and lathis by a mob today during an anti-encroachment operation in Bihar’s Nawada district.

The mob attacked Circle Officer (CO) Ramjanam Prasad when he was supervising anti-encroachment drive at a chowk on
Pakriwa-Warsaliganj road, police sources said.

The officer received injuries.

He was taken to Pakriwa government hospital and later discharged.

An FIR has been lodged in the incident, the sources said adding one person has been arrested.

Nigeria has suspended the broadcasting license of a radio station that repeated conspiracy theories about polio vaccines days before deadly attacks on polio clinics, a statement said today.

Gunmen attacked two polio clinics in the northern city of Kano on February 8, killing at least 10 people, after Wazobia FM broadcast a story reviving claims that the vaccines are part of a Western plot to harm Muslims.

Son of Chinese Army official held in gang-rape case

A 17-year-old son of a senior Chinese Army official has been arrested along with four others in connection with a gang-rape case.

Five men, including one surnamed Li, were apprehended on Wednesday after a woman accused them of raping her.

Police officials demanding anonymity told state media that Li is the son of Li Shuangjiang, dean of the music department of the People’s Liberation Army Academy of Arts.

Li Shuangjiang, 74, built his reputation in past decades by singing popular patriotic songs, according to official Xinhua news agency.

British Indian schoolgirl dies in ski fall

A 13-year-old Indian-origin girl from Britain has died in an accident on a school ski trip in the Italian Alps.

Poonam Bhattal was with her schoolmates from Guru Nanak Sikh Academy in Hayes, west London, when she fell 20-feet from a chairlift at the resort of Claviere on Friday morning.

Emergency services attended to her but she died in an ambulance while being taken to hospital in Susa, about 40
kilometres from Claviere.

Italian police are investigating the accident and Skibound, which organised the trip, has also launched a probe
into the safety of the ski-lift at the resort.

Missing constable found dead

A 48-year-old Delhi Police constable, who was missing for the past four days, was today dead found, police said.

Suresh Singh, who hailed from Haryana’s Jind, was found dead in Delhi Cantt in south-west Delhi at around 10 AM.

He was apparently given some poisonous substance that led to his death. There were no injury marks on his body, police said.

Indian techie, wanted for family’s murder in US,arrested in AP

The Andhra Pradesh police have arrested a software engineer wanted for allegedly murdering his wife and two children in the US in 2008.

According to a statement by Crime Investigation Department (CID), Nerusu Lakshimi Nivas Rao, native of Krishna district and a US green-card holder, is in the wanted list of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Rao is accused of murdering his wife Nerusu Jayalakshmi, son Siva (12) and daughter Tejasvi (14) at Novi, Michigan, USA in 2008. He allegedly killed his wife first, and then the children when they returned from school two hours later.

72-year-old property dealer found murdered in Lajpat Nagar

A 72-year-old property consultant was today found smothered to death at his rented house in south Delhi.

The incident was reported from Lajpat Nagar at around 11:30 AM and the deceased has been identified as Vijay Sareen, police said.

He was found dead by his maid in the bedroom. He lived alone on the ground floor of the building.

Investigators suspect the hand of one of his servants who was missing.
