Two held for bid to molest women colleagues

Two workers of a spinning mill in neighbouring Tirupur district were arrested today on alleged charges of attempting to molest two teenage colleagues during night shift, police said.

The arrests were made based on a complaint by the girls, aged 17 and 18, that the accused grabbed and tried to kiss them two days ago during the night shift in the mill in Vellanchettipalayam, they said.

Police denies media reports on SIMI activists’ arrest

East Godavari Superintendent of Police N Siva Sankara Reddy clarified today that the district police did not arrest any activist of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) at Samalkot, as telecast by some television channels in the morning.

He also said that he did not have any knowledge about central investigation agencies operating in the area.

“I have nothing to comment on rumours in this regard,” he said.

Corporator held for demanding extortion

An Independent corporator of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) was today arrested for allegedly threatening a transport operator and demanding Rs one lakh from him, police said.

The corporator Pawan Chandrakant Pawar threatened Deepak Bhatia twice and demanded money from him, they said.

Pawar, a resident of Shivaji Nagar area in the city, is a corporator from ward no 35 (A) of the NMC.

AP Council polls: Two TRS-backed candidates win

In a shot in the arm for TRS, two candidates supported by the party have emerged victorious in the elections held for six constituencies of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council.

TRS candidates K Swamy Goud and P Sudhakar Reddy won from the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency and Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Teachers’ segment, respectively.

However, the TRS candidate was trailing in the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ constituency, where counting of votes was in progress till late evening.

Woman die after fall, daughter-in-law surrenders

A woman was killed after a fall following a push by her daughter-in-law at Baniara village under Domjur police station in Howrah district, the police said today.

The incident occurred during a quarrel between the two women at home last night.

After the cremation, the daughter-in-law surrendered to the police this morning, the sources said.

Ishrat case:Police officers’ custody extended till Feb 28

A local court today extended the custody of two police officers, Tarun Barot and Bharat Patel, arrested on Saturday by CBI in connection with alleged fake encounter of Ishrat Jahan, for three more days.

Additional chief judicial magistrate H S Khutwad said “The accused police officers have been remanded to police
custody till February 28 for further interrogation.”

The agency had earlier argued that the duo, during their one-day police custody granted by the court yesterday,
were adopting evasive tactics and not cooperating during interrogation.

Hyderabad blasts: Maha ATS to question 2 Pune blast accused

The special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) Court here today allowed Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) to interrogate two accused in connection with the last week’s Hyderabad blasts.

Firoze Sayyed and Irfan Landge, the two accused, are among the eight persons arrested by ATS in connection with
blasts on Pune’s Jangli Maharaj road last year.

We had sought permission to interrogate Firoze and Irfan in connection with Hyderabad blasts case and the court has
granted us the permission,” said an ATS officer.

American help to be sought in Dilsukhnagar blasts probe

Police intensified their investigation into the Dilsukhnagar twin blasts case. It is learnt that the elite National Investigation Agency (NIA) leading the investigation, is thinking of seeking the help of the FBI of USA in the probe.

The investigators are examining the CC TV footage obtained from various sources in the blast area. They are also examining the routes the terrorists got funds for the operation. It is learnt that they found that funds were received through Havala transactions.

Botsa condemns Babu for call to kill

PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana condemned the call of the TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu to people to take swords and sickles and kill Congress.

Talking to the media here on Monday, he said his remarks amounted to violation of the constitution as they incited violence. He said criminal action would be taken against Naidu for his call inciting people to indulge in violence.

Yasin Bhatkal planted one of the bombs in city!

An important operative of Indian Mujahideen (IM), Yasin Bhaktal, is suspected to have planted one of the bombs in the twin blasts that rocked the crowded Dilsukhnagar in Hyderabad on February 21.

Disclosing this, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that the Intelligence Bureau had gathered relevant information in this regard. Yasin Bhaktal was the brain behind the terrorist attack in various cities including Delhi, Ahmedbad, Surat , Pune etc in the past.

The Supreme Court registry has told the Delhi High Court that the process of engagement of law researchers by it is “not open to judicial scrutiny” as there is no employer-employee relationship between them.

“The professional engagement of a person qualified in law cannot be equated with the appointment in a civil post as there does not exist a relationship of employee and employer between the respondent (SC) herein and the law researcher in this case.

Hyderabad police asks malls, theatres to install CCTVs

In the wake of Thursday’s terror attacks, Hyderabad police have directed all theatres, shopping malls, major hotels, business establishments and large government and private buildings to install metal detectors and CCTVs.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma Monday issued orders directing such establishments to take measures to provide security to customers and people visiting their premises.

They were also directed to ensure thorough frisking of people and not to allow parking of vehicles in front of the buildings.

Iran’s Army to hold military drill in near future: Commander

Commander of Iran’s Army Ground Forces Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan announced that the Iranian Army will hold a military exercise in the southwest of the country by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20), Tehran Times daily reported Monday.

Different units of the army, including the infantry, artillery and armored will take part in the drill, said Pourdastan.

The specialized military exercise will aim at enhancing the defensive readiness of Iran’s armed forces against enemy threats, the commander was quoted as saying by Press TV on Monday.

No evidence for Afghan claim of misconduct: NATO

A spokesman for the US-led coalition in Afghanistan says NATO has so far found no evidence to support Afghan allegations of misconduct by American special forces in a strategic eastern province.

German Gen Gunter Katz said today that the International Security Assistance Force will work with the government to find a solution to the concerns of Afghans.

Katz’s comments come a day after President Hamid Karzai ordered all US special forces to leave Wardak province within two weeks because of allegations that Afghans working with them are torturing and abusing other Afghans.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Sherry Rehman has said Pakistan wants to see Afghanistan as a united, independent and sovereign state. She urged all concerned to join the reconciliation process.

Rehman said the US’ decision to conclude the war in Afghanistan in 2014 – the longest in its history – looms large over policy and public debates. She added that there is deep concern over whether the US will be able to leave a reasonably stable Afghanistan behind or if the blood and treasure invested over the course of a decade will have yielded no tangible results, reports the Daily Times.
