Comebacks are for those who get married and have kids, says actress Ameesha Patel, insisting that she had never left the industry and “Race 2” does not signal a return.

“Comebacks are for the actresses who get married and have kids and then plan to come back. I never left this industry. I have always been here. My last film was ‘Chatur Singh 2 Stars’ (2011). The film didn’t do well; so maybe people didn’t know about it,” Ameesha told IANS.

Gut bugs may be behind severe malnutrition in kids: Study

Poor diet may not be the only factor for acute malnutrition in kids, even bacteria living in the intestine may be to blame, according to a new study.

Scientists have long puzzled over why some children are afflicted by malnutrition but not others, even those in the same household who eat the same foods.

The study of young twins in Malawi, in sub-Saharan Africa, led by Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis found that dysfunctional communities of gut microbes conspire with a poor diet to trigger malnutrition.

Recipe: Imli Chutney

If you love tangy flavour, then do try out Imli Chutney.

Ingredients:

200gms Tamarind (Imli)
300gms Jaggery (Gud) grated
2 tsp Roasted cumin (Jeera) Powder
2 tsp Red chili powder
Salt To Taste
1 tsp Black salt
1 tsp Garam masala

Procedure:

Add 5 cups of water to tamarind and bring to er the flame and cook for 10 minutes.
Strain it and add the jaggery, chilli powder, cumin powder, salt, garam masala and mix well.
Cook again on medium flame till jaggery dissolves completely and the chutney gets semi thick(not too thick)

`Promising` dementia drug made from pigs` brains

Scientists have used pigs` brains to develop a `promising` new drug which they claim improves concentration, memory processing and mood in patients with a certain kind of dementia.

The new drug – called cerebrolysin – shows promise in treating patients with a certain kind of dementia known as vascular dementia, according to the results of a systematic review published in The Cochrane Library.

The drug is licensed in some countries for dementia, stroke and traumatic brain injury – although not yet in UK or US, the `Daily Mail` reported.

Apple iPad market share witnessed decline in Q4

Tech giant Apple’s share of the tablet market declined again in the fourth quarter of 2012.

Apple, however, still dominates the market with the iPad, which accounted for 43.6 per cent of tablet shipments, according to market analysts IDC.

According to IDC, Apple”s share fell from 46.4 per cent in the preceding quarter, but it still had almost three times the share of rival firm Samsung, the Telegraph reports.

Samsung shipped almost eight million Android and Windows 8 tablets in the last three months of 2012, to take 15.1 per cent of the market, the IDC report said.

“There is growing scrutiny of sweet drinks, especially soft drinks, because of a range of detrimental health effects on adults and children,” says Jason Armfield from the Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health, University of Adelaide’s School of Dentistry, who led the study, involving 16,800 children.

Silibinin, an extract from the milk thistle, protects against skin cancer and aging caused by ultraviolet (UV) radiation, especially for those who are fond of tanning, says a new study.

“When you have a cell affected by UV radiation, you either want to repair it or kill it, so that it cannot go on to cause cancer. We show that silibinin does both,” said Rajesh Agarwal, co-programme leader of Cancer Prevention and Control at the Colorado University Cancer Centre.

MIM corporator Khaja Bilal surrenders in communal cases

Khaja Bilal Ahmed, the MIM corporator from Rein Bazaar division, surrendered on Thursday before the 14th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Nampally, in connection with five communal cases that were registered against him in November last year. As the court sent him to 14-day judicial remand he was immediately shifted to Cherlapally jail.

South Korean tourist raped in MP

A South Korean woman, who was allegedly raped at a hotel in Madhya Pradesh on January 14, has filed a complaint with police in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra.

In her complaint filed here yesterday, the 23-year-old tourist alleged that she was raped by a waiter of a hotel in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, located in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, on January 14, Kranti Chowk police said.

The woman mentioned that she landed in Bandhavgarh after visiting a few tourist places in MP. At a hotel there, she asked the waiter to serve her beer in her room.

(Siasat News): Bahadurpura police has arrested a motorbike thief and seized 5 bikes from his possession.

The name of the arrested person is Mohsin Bin Hussain Sayeedi, 26, who is the resident of Najam Nagar, Kishan Baug.

He had stolen three bikes from Bahadurpura police station limits and other bikes from Nampally and Bhavani Nagar police station limits.

He wanted to sell these bikes and make easy money but police nabbed him on time and foiled his attempt.

Town CI Syed Lav led by DSP Nizamabad Mr. Ram Mohan Rao will shift Akbaruddin from Adilabad jail to Nizamabad in the morning.

Police constable arrested for accepting Rs. 65-lakh bribe

A Maharashtra Police constable in Jalgaon has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 65 lakh.

The constable, Bipin Jagannath Tiwari, was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe from the official of a private company for not registering a complaint against the firm, Superintendent (ACB), Shashikant Mahavarkar said.

The constable has been sent to remand in police custody till February 1.

Supreme Court to hear Nandy”s plea today

The Supreme Court will on Friday hear sociologist Ashis Nandy”s petition seeking protection from arrest for an alleged anti-Dalit remark he made at the Jaipur Literary Festival (JLF).

Nandy has requested the apex court to quash all the FIRs registered against him.

“We are moving the Supreme Court for quashing of the FIR as well as laying down the guidelines in terms of something which constitutes an offence against SC/ST Act and something which is said in ”freedom of speech”,” Nandy”s lawyer Gaurav Kanth told the media yesterday.

Need patience over Telangana: Govt

Even as key UPA ally NCP raised pitch for separate Telangana, the government on Thursday counselled patience over the issue, saying it was being addressed.

“The issue is being addressed. We need to be patient. We need to be engaged and need forbearance,” Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari said at a press conference here.

He was responding when asked to comment on NCP leader Sharad Pawar raising the pitch for separate Telangana and telling Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that delay would not be helpful.
