CEO Marissa Mayer ends Yahoo’s working from home policy

The relatively new CEO of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer, has decided she wants her employees showing up to the offices from June, and not just telecommuting from home all the time.

According to All Things D’s Kara Swisher, in an internal memo, she said that ‘to become the absolute best place to work, communication and collaboration will be important, so we need to be working side-by-side.

Not sure if I`ll dance with Madhuri: Ranbir Kapoor

Just like everyone else, Bollywood`s `rockstar` Ranbir Kapoor is unsure if he will be shaking a leg with dancing diva Madhuri Dixit in his upcoming film ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’. However, he is keeping his fingers crossed.

Not scared of being called vamp of small screen: Monica Bedi

Actress Monica Bedi, who plays a vamp in Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s debut TV show `Saraswatichandra`, was not sceptical about doing a negative role and says she does not fear being typecast on the small screen.

Bhansali`s show is based on the popular Gujarati novel Saraswatichandra by Govardhanram Madhavaram Tripathi. It is set in the early 20th century and revolves around two Gujarati families.

Mugdha Godse keen to do Marathi cinema

Mugdha Godse wants to do Marathi films for the sake of the audience who stay away from Hindi movies.

The model-turned-actress is known for her roles in Hindi movies like ‘Fashion’ and ‘Jail’.

“I am definitely doing a Marathi film this year because I have got some really nice scripts. Being a Maharashtrian I always wanted to do something for my people and I know there are a lot of Maharashtrians who don`t watch Hindi films much, like my mom and dad,” the 26-year-old said.

Actress Kareena Kapoor will be walking the ramp for Lakme Fashion Week Summer/ Resort 2013 which kick starts from March 22.

Kareena will be the show stopper for the grand finale which will be presented by designer Namrata Joshipura. Last year too Kareena had walked the ramp for grand finale designers ? Kallol Dutta and Pankaj and Nidhi.

Exgratia given to wife of deceased doctor

The state government has extended an ex-gratia of Rs. 6 lakhs to the family of deceased veterinary doctor Nakka Venkateshwar Rao, on Tuesday. The doctor lost his life in the Dilsukhnagar twin blasts which took place on 21st February.

The concerned officer RJD Doctor Anantham visited the house of the deceased at Asmangud in Saidabad mandal, and handed over the cheque to Sujatha, wife of the diseasd and his family members.

Eating fish during pregnancy may lower risk of preterm birth

Researchers have found that the infants of mothers who were given 600 milligrams of the omega-3 fatty acid DHA during pregnancy weighed more at birth and were less likely to be very low birth weight and born before 34 weeks gestation than infants of mothers who were given a placebo.

This result of this University of Kansas study greatly strengthens the case for using the dietary supplement, commonly found in marine and plant oils, during pregnancy.

The results are from the first five years of a 10-year, double-blind randomized controlled trial.

Injustice done to state in railways-Babu

TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu, who was in his Vastunna Meekosam padayatra, has alleged that the State was being meted out injustice in the Railway Budgets for the last several years. Reacting on the 2013 budget, Chandrababu said that nothing benefited to the State though the MP from the State was Minister of the State for Railways. He also alleged that the State didn’t get its due share in the latest budget though State had sent several ruling party MPs.

Zardari to visit Iran

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari will undertake a two-day official visit to Iran from Wednesday, a presidential spokesman said Tuesday.

Senator Farhatullah Babar said the president would hold talks with Iranian leaders on a host of bilateral issues and the regional situation, Xinhua reports.

He said the visit was part of ongoing contacts at the leadership level to further strengthen bilateral relations and to consult each other on regional and international issues of concern to the two countries.

Chemical in plastics may impair developing brain

Environmental exposure to bisphenol A (BPA), a widespread chemical found in plastics and resins, may suppress a gene vital to nerve cell function and to the development of the central nervous system, a study has revealed.

The findings were observed in cortical neurons of mice, rats and humans.

Hypertension during pregnancy may affect kids` health

Mild maternal hypertension early in pregnancy actually benefits the fetus, but that late-pregnancy hypertension has negative health consequences for the child, a new study has found.

The study, conducted by researchers from the Centre for Social Evolution at the Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen, is based on more than 750,000 births in Denmark, with follow-up data on children`s hospital diagnoses for up to 27 years.

• 5 Ripe tomatoes
• 1 Small bunch of mint leaves
• 1-1/2 tsp Cumin
• 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
• 1 tsp Urad dal
• 1 tsp Turmeric powder
• 1 tsp Red chili powder
• 1/2 tsp Asafetida
• Salt to taste
• 1 tsp Oil

Procedure

Chop Tomatoes finely.
Heat oil in a Kadhai and add mustard seeds. When they sputter, add cumin and urad dal. Fry for a few seconds.
Add the chopped tomatoes.
Fry until the tomatoes are cooked.

Liver stem cells grown in dish for first time

Scientists at Oregon Health and Science University have become the first to grow liver stem cells in culture.

For decades scientists around the world have attempted to regenerate primary liver cells known as hepatocytes because of their numerous biomedical applications, including hepatitis research, drug metabolism and toxicity studies, as well as transplantation for cirrhosis and other chronic liver conditions.

But no lab in the world has been successful in identifying and growing liver stem cells in culture — using any available technique – until now.

Classic French Toast

Ingredients:

1/4 cup flour
1 cup whole milk
1 pinch salt
3 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon sugar
12 thick slices french bread

How To Make

Step 1:
In a bowl, place in the flour, and gradually whisk in milk. Add in salt, three eggs, cinnamon, vanilla and white sugar, whisking after each addition until there are no lumps.

Step 2

Over medium, heat up pan.

Step 3

Soak each slice in mixture until moistened, then cook in pan until golden on both sides. Serve warm with syrup or favored topping.

Before becoming an actor, Saqib was a chef

Saqib Saleem, who is making his acting debut with “Mere Dad Ki Maruti”, used to work as a chef in his dad’s restaurant in Delhi.

“Mere Dad Ki Maruti” is made by Y-Films, an arm of Yash Raj Films.

“Saqib was a chef at Saleem’s, before he entered the industry. But he was keen to try his hand at acting,” said Saqib’s spokesperson.

His father is a restaurateur and runs a chain in Delhi. During his college days, Saqib briefly assisted his dad in running the restaurants. Later, he got interested in modelling and started getting offers from ad agencies and eventually shifted to Mumbai.

20 died in hot air balloon explosion in Egypt

Twenty tourists were killed when a hot air balloon exploded Tuesday in Egypt’s Luxor governorate, state TV reported.

“The explosion happened in the early morning… fire of the engine touched the balloon and suddenly the balloon was on fire,” tourist guide Mohamed told Xinhua.

“The balloon belongs to the Sky Cruise company. The dead and injured have been transferred to the Luxor International Hospital,” he added.

Women sexual harassment bill moved in Rajya Sabha

Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath Tuesday moved in the Rajya Sabha a bill to prevent sexual harassment of women at workplace and give safe and enabling environment to working women.

Moving the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Bill, 2012 for consideration and passage in the upper house of parliament, Tirath said the bill covered both organised and unorganised sectors and included domestic workers.

“The aim is that women are able to work freely whether it is workplace in organised or unorganised sector,” she said.

No entry to Bollywood Imran Khan’s new house

Bomb found near Guwahati refinery

The Guwahati refinery Tuesday escaped a disaster after a bomb was detected near its outer boundary wall.

Assam’s Inspector General of Police S.N. Singh said investigation was on to find out who could have planted the bomb in the high-security area.

“The bomb is hand-made and not very powerful,” he said.

The refinery is located about 100 meters from the Noonmati police station. The bomb was spotted by some locals who alerted the police.

Meanwhile, two people including a policeman were injured after a youth lobbed a grenade at Jorhat town in Upper Assam Tuesday.

Goa industry welcomes railway budget

The Goa industry Tuesday welcomed Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal’s maiden railway budget calling it “laudable”, especially for the efforts made to step up the safety of train commuters.

“Unfortunately over the years there was neglect of these passengers’ safety and security and for the first time these issues have found centre stage and proactive measures have been taken to increase the safety and security of passengers,” Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Manguirish Pai Raikar told reporters here.

Security forces bust militant hideout in Kupwara

Security forces busted a hideout in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, police said on Tuesday.

Acting on specific information, police and 47RR in a joint search operation busted a hideout in Kralsanger forest area of Handwara in the district at Haran Top, a police spokesman said.

“One AK-47 rifle, one AK magazine, twenty AK rounds, one Chinese pistol, one pistol magazine, five 9mm rounds, one radio set with antenna and 3 UBGLs (Under Barrel Grenade Launcher) were recovered from the hideout,” the spokesman said.

Omar’s demand of coach factory nowhere in rail budget

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s demand for setting up a rail coach factory in Jammu & Kashmir to overcome industrial backwardness and economic shortcomings in the state has not been met in Tuesday’s rail budget.
