Man rapes teenager with wife’s support in UP

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man using the help of his wife in village Pisavan here, police said Thursday.

The incident occurred yesterday, when the girl, who was at her maternal aunt’s home, was invited by Sushma to her house. Her husband Ramu raped the girl there, they said.

The girl was found in an unconscious state at the couple’s home and she narrated the incident to her father later, they added.

Police have registered an FIR against the accused, who are absconding. A manhunt has been launched to nab them.

Maha govt mulls action against Togadia

Amidst growing demand for booking VHP leader Praveen Togadia for making provocative speeches, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has reportedly asked the Maharashtra government to take appropriate action against the Hindu outfit leader.

Sources, Thursday, said that the MHA has asked the Prithviraj Chavan government in Maharashtra to begin a probe against Togadia and book him for his extremely provocative speech against the members of minority community.

Mohd. Aziz works at Hitech city and was returning home yesterday morning on his bike. At Sitaram Baug, he was stopped by a gang of 6 t0 8 persons and snatched laptop and other costly items from him.

Iranian minister says ‘Assad’s regime ready to negotiate with Syrian opposition’

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has that he believes the Syrian government is willing to negotiate ways with the opposition to bring a two-year bloody uprising against the regime to an end.

Opposition leader Moaz Alkhatib has offered to talk to Syria”s rulers about trying to end the conflict, subject to conditions including the release of 160,000 detainees.

Syrian President Bashar al Assad has not yet commented on the offer and a key opposing faction flatly rejected the initiative.

RSS chief describes Modi as friend

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat today described Narendra Modi as his “friend” but side-stepped queries on the possible projection of the Gujarat Chief Minister as BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate, saying he was “not a political person”.

“He is my friend”, said Bhagwat when asked by reporters what he thought of Narendra Modi.

However, when asked whether he supported the demand for projecting the Gujarat Chief Minister as the Prime Ministerial candidate, the RSS chief said, “I am not a political person…..I am not here on a political visit”.

India urged to protect children from sex abuse

India should improve protection for children from sexual abuse as part of broader reform efforts following the Dec 16 gang-rape and death of a young woman here, Human Rights Watch said Thursday.

Child sexual abuse was disturbingly common in homes, schools and residential care facilities in India, the group said in an exhaustive 82-page report.

A government-appointed panel set up after the New Delhi sexual assault to recommend legal and policy reform found that child protection schemes have “clearly failed to achieve their avowed objective”.

All-girl rock band: another youth held for online abuse

Another youth has been arrested in connection with the online abuses and threats to the all-girl rock band of Kashmir, which forced them to quit singing.

Irshad Ahmad Chara, resident of S D Colony, Batamaloo, was arrested late on Wednesday night by the police, who was raiding different places to apprehend him.

Tariq Khan, was apprehended from Bijbehara, a town in South Kashmir, and Rameez Shah was also arrested from Ganderbal in central Kashmir on Wednesday night, police sources said.

Rajasthan: Health Min directs tracking of suspected swine flu patients

Rajasthan Health Minister AA Khan has directed officials to conduct field surveys for tracking suspected swine flu patients.

In a review meeting yesterday, he asked officials to conduct surveys in the areas where swine flu cases have been detected, an official said today.

Rapid response teams are already screening patients in the field, but the minister wanted officials to also monitor those who may have come in contact with H1N1 positive patients during the past two-three weeks.

Pregnant women who live in areas with high air pollution are significantly more likely to bear children of low birth weight, according to the largest international study of its kind.

Mothers who are exposed to particulate air pollution of the type emitted by vehicles, urban heating and coal power plants risk having babies of low birth weight, according to the study.

The study analysed data collected from more than three million births in nine nations at 14 sites in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Two plants from South East Asia may have anti-diabetic properties and could help tackle obesity as well, believe British researchers.

A team of researchers at the University of Greenwich plans to investigate Cassia auriculata and Cassia alata whose extracts could yield active ingredients for a remedy to diabetes which exists in two forms – Type 1 and Type 2.

The former normally affects children, while type 2, which is most common in adults, (often diagnosed later in life) can be managed by diet, exercise and weight loss to some extent.
