Singer Justin Bieber has added another inking to his growing collection of body art.

The 18-year-old posted pictures of a massive set of praying hands surrounded by roses on his leg on New Year`s Eve. He already has eight tattoos, the Us magazine reported.

“New tat,” the `Boyfriend` singer posted on Instagram. Bieber also posted his shirtless pictures taken in an undisclosed location.

Less than one per cent of candidates clear CTET

In a reflection of the quality of teachers passing out of teacher training institutes, less than one per cent of the candidates could manage to clear the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) held last year.

The CTET was introduced in 2011 by the HRD ministry to improve the quality of teaching in schools after enactment of the Right to Education Act.

According to sources, the results of the examination held in November last year were worse than that of the previous test when the pass percentage stood at about seven per cent.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is poorer than his cabinet colleagues — as far as cash assets are concerned. According to details of movable and immovable assets declared by the chief minister and his cabinet ministers for 2012, Nitish Kumar has Rs.14,475 in cash.

This was less than the Rs.46,974 he had in 2011.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi has Rs.20,000 in cash and Tourism Minister Sunil Kumar Pintu Rs.8.74 lakh.

Two killed as trucks collide in UP

Two persons were killed and as many others injured when two trucks collided here Wednesday morning.

Drivers of the two trucks Ramnayan Yadav (45) and Rajesh (35) were killed and their cleaners were seriously injured in a head-on collision on Azamgarh-Gorakhpur road near Berma Guzarpur village this morning, police said.

The bodies have been sent for post mortem examination and the injured have been hospitalised, police added.

Bus conductor sentenced to over 2 years imprisonment

A local court has sentenced a person to two-and-a-half years in jail for molesting a teenager.

Pronouncing the verdict yesterday, Malavalli Judicial Magistrate First Class Court Judge D Kamalaksha also imposed a fine of Rs 4000 on public transport bus conductor, Kumar, for molesting the girl at Nelamakanahalli village in March 2000.

The complainant had alleged that the accused had forcibly entered her house and forced for sex and abused her when she refused to cooperate.

Haryana Minister Shiv Charan Sharma landed in a controversy after calling suicide victim Geetika Sharma a “servant” of his former ministerial colleague Gopal Kanda who is the prime accused in the case.

Sharma, the Minister for Labour and Employment who also said the case in which Kanda has been booked is not “such a big” one, came under fire on Tuesday from BJP and women’s bodies who dubbed the remark as insensitive, insulting and shameful. Geetika’s brother Ankit demanded an apology from the minister.

A man and his father were sentenced to life imprisonment for killing the former’s wife who refused to give in to their demand for having a sexual relationship with her father-in-law in the neighbouring Washim district.

The fast track court in Washim headed by Judge D K Bhende yesterday awarded life sentence to Shalik Pawar and his father Yadav Pawar in the case.

Trinamool member throws currency notes on dancing girls

A controversy has broken out after young girls danced in skimpy clothes at a Trinamool Congress foundation day function at Bhangar in South 24 Parganas district with a TMC leader allegedly throwing wads of currency notes at them.

Police stopped the function after midnight on Tuesday.

Organised at a stone’s throw from the Bhangar police station, the function saw TMC leader and 24-Parganas Zilla Parishad member Mir Tahir Ali climb onto the stage and allegedly throw wads of currency notes at the direction of the dancing girls.

Love Rejection: Woman employee stabbed by colleague in Hyderabad

In yet another incident of brutality against women, a woman employee of the ESI hospital was attacked by a colleague with a knife here on Wednesday. Four fingers of the woman were severed and she also sustained deep head injuries.

The woman was initially offered treatment in the hospital. But as her condition is serious, arrangements were made to shift her to a corporate hospital.

Over 27,000 bar-headed geese ‘holidaying’ in Himachal

Over 27,000 bar-headed geese, the world’s highest-altitude migrant bird species, are “holidaying” in Himachal Pradesh’s Pong Dam wetlands along with around 100,000 birds of 60 local and migratory species.

A wildlife official said the influx of the bar-headed geese at Pong Dam has increased enormously after a gap of two years.

“As per our initial estimates, the number of bar-headed goose could be more than 27,000,” Assistant Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) D.S. Dadwal told IANS.

Rape accused will get maximum punishment: Antony

The government would ensure that the maximum punishment was handed to those accused of raping a 23-year-old woman who died of her injuries 13 days later, Defence Minister A.K. Antony said here Wednesday.

“That incident has left all of us to hang our heads in shame; the 23-year-old girl became a victim of the worst cruelty,” Antony said.

He was speaking at the 136th Mannam Jayanthi celebrations at the headquarters of the Hindu Nairs in Changanacherry near here.

Steps likely to curb gold import: Chidambaram

The government is considering steps to curb import of gold by making it more expensive as it is partly responsible for the country’s widening current account deficit, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said Wednesday.

“We may be left with no choice but to make it more expensive to import gold. The matter is under government consideration,” Chidambaram told reporters here.

The finance minister said rising import of gold is responsible for the widening current account deficit and steps must be taken to moderate it. “Demand for gold must be moderated,” he said.

Two more accused held in Bihar gang-rape

Two more accused have been arrested in connection with the gang-rape of a 12-year-old girl in a Bihar village last week, police said here Wednesday.

Deputy Inspector General (Patna circle) Sunil Kumar said Annu Kumar and Guddu Yadav have been arrested for their involvement in the rape of the minor.

Kumar said police had earlier arrested another accused Arjun Yadav from a village in Nalanda district. “Police have also seized an auto-rickshaw used in the incident,” he said.

Dikshit takes out rally for gang-rape victim

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Wednesday marched to Rajghat at the head of “a peace rally” in memory of the woman who was brutally gang-raped and died Dec 29.

The rally started from Bal Bhawan in central Delhi. By the time she reached Rajghat, just over a kilometre away, hundreds, especially women, joined the chief minister.

Vital changes needed in IPC to help women, say police

Calling the Delhi gang-rape “the worst in the world”, police officers are calling for urgent amendments in the archaic Indian Penal Code (IPC) to provide justice to women in distress.

Even police officers who have over the decades seen countless bodies and battered humans are unable to control their emotions as they talk about the savagery committed Dec 16 on the victim who finally died Dec 29.

“We have never seen a beastly crime like this,” one officer told IANS. “Forget the details… I can tell you with authority that there has never been a rape like this anywhere in the world.”

Pak eases restrictions on US military vehicles transiting to Afghanistan

Pakistan has allowed the US cargo including military vehicles for transit to Afghanistan via Torkham and Chaman.

Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued a Customs General Order (CGO) to ensure transit of particular US cargo, which is free of hazardous waste material.

According to the CGO, in case the cargo is intended for transit from Afghanistan, a US declaration of ownership shall be accepted in lieu of the original invoice, the Nation reports.

A woman in Andhra Pradesh has written to the ministry of external affairs for help in tracing her scientist son in the US who has not contacted her for nine years.

Orre Ramaswamy from Karimnagar district in Andhra Pradesh had gone to the US about 30 years ago. His mother Mallavya has written to the ministry of external affairs.

According to Mallavya, her son has not contacted her for the last nine years. The old woman also said that unable to bear the shock, her husband Rajaiah died a couple of years ago.

A day after Union minister Shashi Tharoor favoured naming the revised anti-rape law after the Delhi gang-rape victim, her family members on Wednesday said they have no objection to it and the move would be an honour to the girl.

The family members of the 23-year-old girl said that “if her name is made public for this purpose, they have no objection to it”.

Talking to the father and brother of the girl said that “if the government names the revised anti-rape law after her, they have no objection and it would be an honour to her”.

`People subconsciously link female names with lighter colours`

Scientists have found that women are really seen as the `fairer sex` since people subconsciously associate lighter colours with female names and qualities, and darker shades with more masculine attributes.

As a result, most assume that a waiter carrying two glasses of wine would almost certainly give the red to the man and the white to the woman, said Dutch psychologists.

Researcher Gun Semin from Utrecht University began by showing a group of volunteers a selection of male and female names printed on a grey background. Some were in white text and others in black.

It`s official! Middle age starts at 40: Study

The exact age at which people should stop calling themselves young is 40 years, eight months and two weeks, according to a government poll in the UK.

While men believe being young stops at 38 and a half, women are in no hurry to age as the cut-off for them is delayed until 42 years, nine months and three months, the poll found.

Britons surveyed also said that old age begins when people reach the age of 59 years, two months and two weeks.
