Owaisi case: Cong for ‘strictest’ steps on politics of hate

As controversy raged over the ‘hate speech’ of MIM MLA from Andhra Pradesh Akbaruddin Owaisi, Congress on Thursday advocated “strictest possible steps” against those doing politics of hate.

“Law will take its own course. If any person whether he is a politician or otherwise tries to spread hatred in the country and do politics of hatred, then strictest possible action should be taken against them.

“I am sure the Andhra Pradesh government will take action,” party spokesperson Rashid Alvi told reporters here.

20 killed, 40 wounded in Iraq car bombing

At least 20 people were killed and 40 others injured Thursday in a car bombing that targeted Shia Muslim pilgrims in Iraq’s Musayyib town, Xinhua reported.

Musayyib is located around 60 km from the capital city of Baghdad.

Police in Babil province told Xinhua that the blast took place at a car park when the Shia pilgrims were returning from the holy city of Karbala.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Muslim family in UK takes school to court over hijab ban

Parents of a nine-year-old Muslim girl in Britain have dragged a Greek orthodox school to court for banning her from wearing a headscarf.

The parents believe it would be a sin for their daughter’s head to be uncovered in the presence of male teachers because she has reached puberty.

The couple has applied to the High Court in an attempt to force the school – the only one of its kind in the country to reverse its ban on their daughter wearing a hijab.

Woman forced to have sex with tantrik for son kills self

Four persons were arrested here in connection with the suicide of a 39-year-old woman who was allegedly forced by her husband and in-laws to have sexual relations with a tantrik so that she could bear a male child,police said today.

The husband of deceased Swapna Roy, Sukumar, her in laws, Suren and Shobharani and sister-in-law Draupadi, were arrested and sent to 14-day judicial custody today, they said.

PCB wants Ashes-like series with India

Stating that relations between the two neighbouring nations have improved, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf today said he wants an Ashes-like cricket series with arch-rivals India.

“We have thought of it. The idea has been floated with the BCCI if an Ashes like series can be played between India and Pakistan every year or alternate year,” Ashraf told reporters here.

Malala’s father gets job in Pak’s mission in UK

The father of Pakistani teenage activist Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head by Taliban for advocating girls’ education, has been given a job in Pakistan’s consulate in Birmingham, where the schoolgirl has been recovering from her wounds.

Ziaududdin Yousafzai will be the head of the education section under the Head of Mission and he has been given the position for three years, which may be extended for a further two years, BBC reported quoting the Pakistan government.

‘Cases against politicians be tried in fast-track courts’

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Thursday dismissed the controversy over his stay in a private resort in the Nilgiris, saying there was nothing illegal about it.

North India was gripped by bone chilling cold on Thursday as temperatures nosedived across the region claiming nine more lives.

Former MLA Chintala Ramchandra Reddy has been suspended from the Telugu Desam Party after he called on YSR Congress party president and Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy at Chanchalguda Jail.

Chintala, who had earlier represented the Vayalpad constituency in Chittoor district, was considered as a main rival to Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who also hails from the same district. The petitioner, Ghulam Rabbani, lodged a complaint before the VIIth Additional Metropolitian Magistrate stating that Praveen Togadia made a provocative speech on December 11 with reference to the controversy around the Bhagyalakshmi Temple abutting Charminar. He demanded registration of case under Section 295 A against Togadia.

Chicken Rolls

Try out this delicious snack!

Ingredients:

2 cups Chicken Cubes (cooked)
4 oz Cream Cheese (softened)
2 tbsp Milk
1 (8 oz) can Crescent Rolls

Procedure:

Combine milk and cream cheese in a medium-sized bowl.
Add chicken cubes and mix well.
Divide the crescent rolls into 4 rectangle pieces and place ½ cup of chicken mixture in the centre.
Roll the 4 ends over the chicken such that the chicken is in the centre. Seal the ends.
Repeat with the rest of the crescent rolls and chicken mixture.
Place on a cookie sheet and bake in moderate oven for 20-25 minutes, until brown.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon Olive oil
1 1/4 pounds boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into 1/2 inch dice
3/4 tsp salt divided
5 tablespoons finely chopped red onion
1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
1/4 tsp Old Bay Seasoning
2 large boiled eggs
2/3 cup finely diced celery including some leaves
Instructions

1. Heat oil in 12-inch skillet over high heat; add chicken, sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon salt and saute, stirring as chicken browns, 5 to 7 minutes. Cool to just slightly warm.
