MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, who is facing a slew of cases for his alleged hate speeches, will be arriving here on Monday.

Akbaruddin, who left for London for medical examination, was asked by DGP V Dinesh Reddy to return and reports say that the Majis leader will be coming to city on Monday night.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya has demanded that Akbaruddin should be awarded life imprisonment in the cases that he is facing. (INN)

A day after calling off his visit to the capital in the wake of a controversy over the Indian government giving him visa, former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad today said that he should be seen just as a sportsman and not as a relative of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Miandad, who was to watch the third and final ODI in Delhi tomorrow, yesterday cancelled his visit to avoid further
controversy.

I should be seen just as a cricketer, a sportsperson. Being related to somebody does not mean anything. What is the
problem in me getting a visa (to be in India)?” Miandad asked.

2 live grenades recovered from Jhajjar village

Police recovered two live grenades from fields at Khatiwaas village here today.

A bomb disposal squad took over an hour to defuse the grenades on the spot.

The grenades were spotted by some villagers when they were on a morning walk. They informed the village Sarpanch who
called the police.

Later, a seven-member bomb disposal squad led by Sandeep Dalal reached the spot from Rohtak and defused the explosives after working on it for over an hour.

Police have started investigation how the grenades reached here.

NIA arrests Lokesh Sharma in 2006 Malegaon bomb blasts case

National Investigation Agency (NIA) today formally arrested key accused in 2007 Samjhauta Express blast case, Lokesh Sharma, in connection with the 2006 Malegaon bomb blasts case.

Sharma, who is already under judicial custody, was produced before a special court here, which remanded him in
NIA custody till January 19, police said.

New chief of Pak Taliban faction fought Indian troops in J-K

Bahawal Khan, the new chief of a Taliban faction in Pakistan’s South Waziristan region after the killing of Mullah Nazir in a US drone strike, is a militant who fought Indian troops in Jammu and Kashmir.

Khan was named the head of the faction shortly after Nazir and 12 other militants were killed in the drone strike in Angoor Adda area on Thursday.

He fought as a militant in Jammu and Kashmir, sources were quoted as saying in Pakistani media reports.

A member of the Kakakhel sub-tribe of the Ahmedzai Wazirs, Khan is an illiterate former bus driver.

Internet spews out 830 million tonnes of CO2

Internet, video and other cloud services, which comprise information communications and technology (ICT) industry, spews out more than 830 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, researchers found.

Carbon dioxide is also the main greenhouse gas; and the emissions from the information and communications industry alone accounts for about two percent of global CO2 emissions, the same proportion as the emissions from the aviation industry.

MIM sees conspiracy behind cases against Akbar Owaisi

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) sees a conspiracy by the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh to target its leader Akbaruddin Owaisi by slapping serious charges of waging war against the nation.

Police in Hyderabad, Adilabad and Nizamabad districts, during the last two days, registered three cases against Owaisi for allegedly making hate speeches last month.

The courts in Hyderabad and neighboring Ranga Reddy district directed the police to book Owaisi under Section 153 (A) of the Indian Penal Code for promoting enmity between different groups.

Delhi Police behaviour unacceptable: BJP

BJP today slammed the Delhi Police for filing a case against a news channel which aired the interview of the 23-year-old gangrape victim’s friend, saying this is unacceptable and an attack on press freedom.

Major fire at IOC facility in Hazira near Surat

A major fire broken out today at storage tanks of Indian Oil Corporation’s terminal at Hajira port here, fire brigade officials said.

Fire brigade personnel from Surat and nearby cities were trying to bring the fire under control.

Hazira facility of IOC has nine storage tanks, five of petrol and four of diesel.

One of the tanks caught fire this afternoon, and it spread.

There were no reports of any casualties as yet, while all the staff members have been shifted out.

The Hazira terminal includes a deep water multi-cargo port, situated 25 km from Surat.

RSS congregation in Indore

A professor of the Barkatullah University here has been suspended after he was allegedly found drunk on duty.

S P Sanyal, Head of Department (HoD) of physics, has been suspended and departmental inquiry ordered against him,
University Registrar Sanjay Prakash Tiwari told PTI today.

The HoD was found in an inebriated condition when a group of girl students, along with some mediapersons, went to
his office on Thursday to complain about sexual harassment in the university campus, he said.

We came to rape victim’s aid in minutes: Delhi Police

Delhi Police on Saturday refuted allegations levelled by the friend of the December 16 gang-rape victim that policemen argued over jurisdictional area, losing precious time that might have proven crucial in saving her.
In a short explanation, Delhi Police said that the Police Control Room van got the first call at 10:22pm that night, of two people including a woman lying on the road in a pool of blood.

Police claimed that two rescue vans reached the spot within minutes and took the victims to hospital 33 minutes after receiving the first distress call.

‘Prompt medical aid could have saved my sister’

The brother of the 23-year-old Delhi gang-rape victim on Saturday said delay in providing medical assistance to his sister led to complications which perhaps led to her death.

“She told me that after the incident that she had asked passers-by for help but to no avail and it was only after the highway patrol alerted the police that she was rushed to hospital but it had taken almost two hours”, her brother told PTI in their village in Ballia.

Woman raped in Haryana

A 24-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by a youth, who lured her on the pretext of providing her a job, police said on Saturday.

The victim, a resident of a village in Karnal district, said in her complaint that she had come into contact with the accused on phone, who assured her a job.

When she came to Jind, the accused, identified as Sunny, with the help of another youth took her to a hotel and allegedly raped her, she said.

The accused has been arrested, while his accomplice is still absconding, police said. A case has been registered in this connection, they said.

Blast destroys three shops in Karachi

Three shops were destroyed in an explosion Saturday in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi, media reports said. There were no casualties.

The blast took place inside a medical store in the SITE Metroville area, Dawn News reported.

Police said the explosion was carried out using a hand grenade. But the bomb disposal squad which examined the site said the explosives were planted.

The explosion also damaged hand-carts and makeshift shops in the vicinity.
