Asia Pacific Ophthalmology Conference in Hyderabad

The 28th Congress of Asia Pacific Ophthalmology Conference will be held in Hyderabad from 17th to 20th January.
It will be inaugurated by Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, President of India at International Convention Center at Madhapur, Hitech City, Hyderabad.

Mr.S.L Narasimhan, Governor of AP and Mr.N.Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Minister of AP would be the guests of honour.
It is the second time that this conference is being held in this city. Earlier, it was held in Hyderabad in1985.

Secret compromise between YSR Congress and Majlis

Hate speech: Owaisi seeks four days to appear before police

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, booked for allegedly delivering a hate speech against a particular community today sought four days to appear before police citing medical reasons. Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi returned to Hyderabad from London early Monday and will appear before police in connection with a case against him for making alleged hate speeches last month.

Akbar Owaisi arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here around 3 a.m. He later drove to his house in the Banjara Hills area of the city.

Sailor commits suicide, Navy orders probe

A 23-year-old sailor of the Indian Navy allegedly committed suicide on board a frontline warship on Saturday night even as his family suspected foul play behind the incident.

Melvin Raj, hailing from Tamil Nadu, was found with a gunshot wound on his head on board INS Talwar anchored at dry dock here. He was rushed to INS Ashwini naval hospital but was declared dead on arrival, police said.

Melvin’s family, however, alleged foul play behind the incident and claimed that the victim was being harassed by his seniors since several months.

Free coaching for SSC Urdu medium

Anjuman-e-Taraqqi-e-Urdu of Greater Hyderabad in collaboration with Abid Ali Khan Educational Trust is organizing free coaching classes for the students of Urdu medium SSC course.

Coaching will be offered in science, Maths, Telugu and English subjects. The classes are being held from 4:30 to 8:30 pm at Madrasa Anwar-e-Hashmia School, near Bada Pahad, Farooq Nagar behind Falaknuma Palace, Hyderabad. These classes would continue upto 20th March.

Parents worried about unrecognized schools

A memorandum was presented to Ms. Jhansi Rani, Dy. DEO by the deputation of Awaaz organization of Nampally zone stating that many parents are facing a lot of difficulties in getting their children admitted in schools. When the students get admission, they come to know that the school is not recognized.

It was stated that there are 12 schools in Nampally zone which are not recognized. The future of the students who sought admissions in these unrecognized schools is at stake.

Dept. of Education is requested to take necessary steps for recognizing such schools.

Mischief played by Sangh Parivar activists in front of Mosque

Tension mounted in Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar area yesterday when the activists belonging to Sangh Parivar disturbed the prayer in the mosque.

According to the reports of the local residents, a group of 25 to 30 motor cyclists reached the mosque and started shouting slogans. They made an unsuccessful attempt to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere. The residents lodged a complaint in the S.R. Nagar police station.

Suicide bombers kill 5 at Afghan district compound

Two suicide bombers penetrated a government compound in the country’s south today, killing five people, Afghan officials said. There were no reports of foreign troops or civilians at the site.

In neighbouring Helmand province, a bomb planted at a bus station killed one policeman and wounded another person, a provincial official said.

The suicide attack was in the district of Spin Boldak in Kandahar province in one of the nation’s most violent areas. The district is a major infiltration corridor for Taliban fighters from Pakistan as well as a smuggling route for weapons and narcotics.

China: Shanghai market fire kills six

Six people were killed and 12 others injured in a market fire in China’s commercial city of Shanghai, an official said on Monday.

Fire fighters had extinguished the fire last night at a farm produce wholesale market in Pudong new district of Shanghai, the district’s official said. Rescuers have retrieved five bodies from the debris of the fire and all injured people have been hospitalized, said the microblog.

Rescuers are still searching for the casualties at the fire site, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

20-year-old girl beats up molester in Maharashtra

An eve-teaser was allegedly beaten up by a 20-year-old girl when he tried to harass her while she was returning home at Patun tehsil in the district, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Saturday night on Balapur Road when the girl was returning home from a shop when the accused, identified as Vikas Nage, started harassing her, they said.

However, the gritty girl fought back, grabbed the accused and slapped him, police said. Later, after the girl lodged a complaint, the youth was arrested, police added.

ND Tiwari paternity suit: HC orders daily hearing

A youth’s paternity suit to declare ND Tiwari as his biological father was ordered to be heard on a day-to-day basis by the Delhi High Court on Monday after the veteran Congress leader refused to settle the issue through mediation.

“The local commissioner is hereby directed to conduct, preferably, the hearing on a day-to-day basis,” Justice Manmohan said.

The direction came after the counsel for the 88-year-old Congress leader refused to settle the lawsuit out of the court through mediation, saying there was a possibility that the medical evidence was not hundred percent accurate.

Bill for ‘Equal Opportunities Commission’ soon:K Rehman

The bill for establishment of an “Equal Opportunities Commission” recommended by Rajinder Sachar Committee is likely to be moved soon, Union Minister for Minority Affairs K Rehman Khan said here on Sunday.

“The bill for ‘Equal Opportunities Commission’ would be moved in two-three months and it will become a law,” he said at a convention organised by the ‘All India Minorities Forum’.

The commission will have many powers and address issues of any discrimination or injustice concerning minorities, he said.

States seek stricter punishment for rapists

The conference of state directors general of police and chief secretaries has suggested a slew of measures to combat crimes against women, an official press release said on Sunday.

These include increasing punishment in cases of gang-rape, fast-track courts for crimes against women, a dedicated helpline for women across the country and bringing down the age of juveniles to 16 from 18.

Cong announces 60 candidates for Meghalaya Assembly polls

Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and some of his Cabinet colleagues are in the list of 60 candidates announced by the Congress for the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state. Elections for the 60-member state Assembly are expected soon.

As per the list, Sangma will contest from his constituency Ampati while former Chief Minister DD Lapang will contest from the Nongpoh seat.

Deputy Chief Minister Rowell Lyngdoh will contest from Mawkyrvat (ST) seat while Forest Minister R C Laloo is being fielded from Jowai (ST) seat.

Teacher arrested for molesting minor girl

The teacher of a private school here was arrested today for allegedly molesting a minor girl in Lahunipara area of Odisha’s Sundargarh district, police said. “Sudarshan Munda, who teaches at Gulkhundi Private School, was arrested for molesting a student of class-III on January 2,” Inspector in-charge of Lahunipara PS R K Sahu said. On the evening of January 2, Munda took the 8-year-old girl on his motorcycle to drop her at the school where she studies, the police said. The teacher took her to a bush and molested her until two bike-riders arrived there and rescued the girl, the police said.

Indian actresses Archie Panjabi and Kajal Agarwal have revealed that they enjoyed their adventurous air-tour over Kuala Lumpur and looking at the Petronas Twin Towers from 457m above.

The two beauties, who were on a holiday, described the 20-minute air tour of the city on two Cessna 172 aircraft as a “liberating” experience and asserted that they had so much fun that now they want to get their own pilot’s licenses, the Star Online reported.

Three policemen injured in Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh

Three policemen, including a senior officer were injured during a Maoists” attack in Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday.

The injured additional superintendent of police and two constables have been admitted in Raipur hospital.

According to police officials the incident took place when a bomb kept inside a bag by the rebels exploded. The injured are out of danger.

Later, police rushed to the spot and carried out a search in the area. (ANI)
