Emraan mobbed during ‘Ghanchakkar’ shoot

Actor Emraan Hashmi was mobbed while shooting for “Ghanchakkar” on the Eastern Express Highway. Director Rajkumar Gupta says the crew has now shifted to night schedules.

“We are shifting to night schedules to avoid confusion and traffic snarls. So from now on, we are going to shoot at night,” Gupta told IANS.

The outdoor shooting Dec 5-6 involved Emraan to walk on the highway as well as drive a car. Gupta says they are yet to shoot a “lot more outdoor sequences with Emraan”.

U.S. President Barack Obama on Monday announced that he will nominate former Republican senator Chuck Hagel as the next defense secretary, and his counterterrorism adviser John Brennan to lead the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

The legislators of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha will meet Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmad on Tuesday to formally withdraw support to the BJP-led government in the state. Shibu Soren”s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) withdrew support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Arjun Munda Government on Monday evening, reducing it to minority after talks between two the sides fail to reach an agreement. The decision to pull out was taken after a meeting of JMM leaders at Ranchi even though Munda met JMM chief Shibu Soren and his son Hemant at their residence.

‘Media is creating controversy by misquoting Asaram Bapu’, says Bapu’s spokesperson

Denying the controversial remarks of Spritual Guru Asaram Bapu about the Delhi gang-rape victim, his spokesperson Nilam Dubey on Monday said that the media has created the whole issue by misquoting Bapu.

Reacting to the ongoing controversy and countrywide criticism over the statements, Dubey said: “Bapujee never made such statements. He just asked his women followers to avoid such situation anyhow, while he was addressing a ‘Satsang’ here soon after the incident.”

Galaxy may host 17 bn Earth-size planets

At least 17 billion Earth-size planets may inhabit the Milky Way galaxy, RIA Novosti reported citing a new study by US astronomers.

According to space.com website that carries news related to space and the NASA, a US research team has conducted an analysis of data collected by NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope, and “determined that about 17 percent of stars in our galaxy harbour a roughly Earth-size exoplanet in a close orbit”.

That translates to a minimum of 17 billion planets as there are about 100 billion stars in the Milky Way.

Four foreigners misbehave with woman in Delhi

Four foreigners, who claim to be officials of embassies of three African countries, allegedly misbehaved and threatened a woman assistant manager of a prominent hotel here this evening, police said.

The woman, an assistant training manager of a prominent hotel in New Delhi district, in her complaint alleged that she was shown obscene gestures and intimidated by the four persons who were sitting in a car belonging to an embassy near Janpath market.

The girl then raised an alarm and police personnel on duty there apprehended the accused.

Seven dead in China coal mine blast

Seven workers died in China’s Shanxi province when a gas explosion occurred in a coal mine, authorities said Monday.

Seventeen people were working in the Sijiazhuang Coal Mine in Xiyang county when the blast occurred in the afternoon, reported Xinhua citing the provincial coal mine safety administration.

While seven workers died at the site, 10 others escaped unhurt, it added.

Diesel price may be hiked by Rs 2 per litre, say sources

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has warned that the government must raise diesel, kerosene and cooking gas prices in a phased manner as India’s fuel prices are well below international prices. Sources have told Network 18 that the government may consider hiking diesel prices by Rs 2 to 3 per litre and LPG by Rs 50 to 75 rupees, in line with the Kelkar committee report recommendations.

Man kills father over property dispute

A man allegedly strangulated his 65-year-old father to death over a property dispute in Hussainpur village of the district.

The accused, Bobby, who was recently released from jail, wanted to sell a plot of ancestral land, but his father Jagdish was against it, police said today.

Last night, the two had an argument over the issue after which Bobby killed his father and escaped, they said. The body has been sent for post-mortem and hunt is on to nab the absconding accused, they added.

Teenager molested by 2 youth

An 18-year-old girl was molested allegedly by two youth in east Delhi when she was returning home from market, police said today. The incident was reported from Mandawli area last night and Neeraj (22) and Deepak (29) were arrested in connection with the incident. The duo allegedly passed lewd remarks at her and when she objected, they molested her, police claimed. The girl then raised an alarm and the public caught them, beat up the duo before handing them over to police. PTI

Jet cuts fares on select Gulf routes; adds 2nd flight to Dubai

Jet Airways today cut fares for a limited period on select Dubai flights as part of its New Year offering. The airline will also add a second flight to Dubai from New Delhi from the middle of this month. The special fares will be valid for five days from today on select Gulf routes. The new fares are part of the Dubai Shopping Festival, Jet said. These special Economy fares will be applicable on flights operating from Mumbai to Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Kuwait, while there will be attractive fares from Kochi to Muscat, Doha, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
