Maulana Azad National Urdu University’s staff cricket team has entered the semi final of All India Vice-Chancellor’s T-20 Cricket Tournament. According to the information received from Jammu, MANUU team has defeated Ludhiana University Team by 4 wickets in the quarter final played today.

Ludhiana Team batting first was bundled out for a partly 99. MANUU’s speed star Shaik Mohiuddin created havoc in the Ludhiana camp with his devastating spell of pace bowling. He claimed 4 wickets and was declared man of the match.

Hyderabad Zakaat & Charitable Trust distributes scholarships to Maharashtra students

(Siasat News) Interviews were conducted in six districts of Maharashtra, namely, Nanded, Parbhani, Hingoli, Bead & Osmanabad for the award of scholarships. Interviews were conducted by Mr. Ziauddin Nayyar. Mr. Anwar Khan, Mr. Syed Nusrath, Mr. K.H. Mustafa and others in which 325 students from Nanded, 255 from Parbhani, 194 from Hingoli, 170 from Latore & 17 students from Osmanabad and Beed attended the interview. Rs. 69 Lakh were distributed to 961 students. The students who were awarded scholarships have obtained marks ranging between 60 to 90% in their examinations.

Ticket inspector shot dead on train near Delhi

A chief ticket inspector (CTI) of the Indian Railways has been shot dead on board the Mahananda Express, between Ghaziabad and New Delhi, police said Saturday.

The incident took place late Friday when unidentified assailants shot Kifayatullah in the stomach when he sought to see their tickets.

Hailing from Moradabad, the railway official was on duty on the Mahananda Express which runs between West Bengal and New Delhi. He was taken to the Guru Teg Bahadur hospital in New Delhi, where he died at around 10.30 p.m. due to excessive blood loss.

Post-Thackeray, Uddhav to meet party activists

After mourning Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s death, his son and party executive president Uddhav Thackeray will tour Maharashtra to interact with party activists, a party official said here Saturday.

Thackeray’s tour will start Dec 3 in western Maharashtra’s Kolhapur, where he will meet party workers and elected representatives from local bodies to the parliament.

Similar meetings for various regions shall be held Dec 5 in Nashik, Dec 7 in Ratnagiri, Dec 14 in Nagpur and Dec 16 in Aurangabad.

US footballers using Viagra for that extra push

Some professional American football players in the US are reportedly getting an extra ‘edge’ on the playing field from a drug that is usually prescribed for enhancing performance in the bedroom, according to at least one player in the National Football League (NFL).

“I’ve heard crazy stories. I’ve heard of guys using Viagra, seriously, because the blood, it’s supposed to thin,” said Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall, according to the Chicago Tribune.

“It’s such a competitive league and guys try anything just to get that edge,” he said.

UP shivers as icy winds blow across state

Many parts of Uttar Pradesh woke up to a chilly weekend Saturday as icy winds swept across the state.

According to the Met office, the recent rainfall and snowfall in the Kashmir Valley and showers in parts of western Uttar Pradesh have triggered the onset of winters.

The mercury is set to plummet further in the coming week.

“November was unusually cold in Lucknow and neighbouring areas and now that December has started, be prepared for a long spell of cold,” a Met official told IANS.

Weeks after Pakistan freed 13 Afghan Taliban detainees to push peace process, Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed Friday on the release of more Taliban prisoners, facilitating contacts and urging the Taliban to renounce ties to al Qaeda.

A joint statement issued at the conclusion of a day-long visit of Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul to Pakistan said the two sides emphasized the importance of an intra-Afghan inclusive dialogue and consequent political settlement for durable peace in Afghanistan, reported Xinhua citing local media.

Three dead after attack at US community college

An attack at a community college in the rural western state of Wyoming and another location nearby left three people dead, a faculty member, another person, and the suspect, who police say used a sharp-edged weapon in the killings.

Police found two of those killed at a science building on the Casper College campus and the third at another location about 2 miles away.

Authorities didn’t identify the suspect or victims but said two were male and one was female.

LPG consumers can now fill up KYC forms till Dec 31

The government has extended the deadline for filling of the the Know Your Customer (KYC) forms by LPG consumers till December 31.

In a nationwide exercise to weed out multiple or ghost connections, the government had previously set November 15 as the deadline for customers to submit their duly filed KYC forms with their distributors.

“We have now decided to extend the deadline by a month to December 31,” a senior Oil Ministry official said here.

Estranged Karnataka BJP strongman B S Yeddyurappa, who resigned from the primary membership of the party, today became emotional as he recalled his long association with the party even as he trained his guns at BJP leaders for hatching a “conspiracy” against him.

“The party has given everything to me. And I have sacrificed my life to build my previous party (BJP)”, he said, fighting back tears.
Yeddyurappa said he is leaving the party “because of our own (BJP) people. They don’t want me to continue in the party; that’s why I am resigning from the primary membership as also MLAship”.

After gang-rape, two accused commit suicide in Haryana

Two youth accused of allegedly gang-raping a Dalit woman in Haryana committed suicide by jumping before a moving train on the Rohtak-Delhi line Friday, police said here.

The duo, identified as Sandeep, 24, and Sunil, 25, of Ajayab village in this district, along with three others were booked by the Meham police Thursday evening on charge of committing gang-rape with a 30-year-old married woman belonging to the Dalit community.

Police officials said that the alleged gang-rape took place Wednesday night in Ajayab village.

Youth acquitted of charges of raping and kidnapping minor

A youth has been acquitted by a Delhi court of the charges of kidnapping and raping a minor girl as the investigating officer failed to locate the place where the alleged crime was committed. Additional Sessions Judge J R Aryan let off North East Delhi resident Firoz saying the prosecution’s story was “doubtful”. “It was difficult to believe and accept mere testimony of the girl that the accused had the sexual intercourse with her without her consent,” the court said.

‘Exports via rail route to Pak hit due to wagon shortage’

Trade through rail route between India and Pakistan has almost come to a halt due to non- availability of rail wagons, exporters have said. Exporters said they had not been able to get sufficient rail wagons during last four weeks. They further said goods worth Rs 1,000 crore are held up at Amritsar railway station. “We are not getting rail wagons for export of goods, which has significantly impacted export to Pakistan through rail network,” Amritsar-based exporter Rajiv Setia said.

Vietnam mobile company forays into Myanmar

Vietnam’s state-owned company Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services Company has opened a representative office in Yangon in a bid to tap the Myanmar market.

Nguyen Dang Nguyen, deputy director of the company, said Myanmar has opened its doors to foreign investors, particularly in the telecom and information industry.

The Vietnam Mobile Telecom Services Company or VMS, founded in 1993, is a leading mobile operator in Vietnam. VMS sells service under the MobiFone brand, Xinhua reported.

Vietnam’s total investments in Myanmar hit $41 million in July 2012.

The new sanctions will also blacklist the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) and its president as “human rights abusers” for broadcasting forced televised confessions and show trials.

Tehran is currently under several packages of Western-backed sanctions, including EU-brokered oil embargo that came into effect July 1.

Russia to hold 60 joint events with foreign armies

The Russian military will hold over 60 joint events with their foreign counterparts in 2013, a Russian defence ministry spokesman has said.

“Great attention in the academic year 2013 (starting Dec 1) will be paid to international military cooperation,” the spokesman told journalists.

“In line with agreements with armies of foreign states, more than 60 joint tactical training activities are due to be held,” he said.

London Olympic medallists Saina Nehwal and M C Mary Kom have been designated as “national icons” by the Election Commission to help promote voter participation in polls. The poll body already has former President A P J Abdul Kalam and Indian cricket captain M S Dhoni as its other “national icons”. Sources in the Election Commission said 22-year-old Saina Nehwal and Mary Kom, 29, who had won bronze medals in London Olympics 2012 in badminton and boxing respectively, will help in boosting women participation during the forthcoming Gujarat Assembly elections scheduled next month.
