Three killed, one injured in accident

Three persons were killed on the spot and another injured when the car they were travelling in rammed a roadside tree early Monday morning at Alagapuri, about 50 km from here, police said.

The occupants of the car were on their way to Rajapalayam from Chennai when the accident occurred after the driver lost control of the car, they said.

The injured car driver has been hospitalised.

Kiran diverting Muslim Minority Funds: MIM

There was a heated exchange between Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, who has alleged that innocent Muslim minority youth were being harassed. He alleged that the funds allotted for Muslim minority welfare were being diverted.

Task Force arrests 3 rowdies

In separate incidents, Task Force sleuths arrested three history-sheeters in the city and seized four daggers from their possession on Sunday.

Acting on a tip off, task force sleuths apprehended Chaderghat’s history-sheeter Mohammed Osman, 23, near Hi-Tech function hall in Wahed Nagar of Old Malakpet. They seized a dagger from his possession.

During interrogation, Osman told police that a week ago he had purchased the dagger at Jummerat Bazaar as his life was in danger.

Global discharge of green-house gases are growing three times faster than in the 1990s, which could produce a temperature rise of 4-6 degrees by 2100, a leading Australian scientist has warned.

Pep Canadell, one of the lead authors of a new paper warning of the growth of emissions, claimed their analysis showed that by the end of 2012, global emissions from fossil fuels would reach the unprecedented level of 36 billion tonnes.

Demand to appoint selected Urdu and Telugu Assistants in Govt. schools

Head constable shoots self in Outer Delhi

A head constable on Sunday allegedly shot himself dead in an Outer Delhi police station.

49-year-old Tejpal, who joined Delhi Police in 1984, was posted in Kanjhawala police station since June 2011.

He committed suicide at his first floor office after doing an emergency duty this afternoon, police said.

A suicide note was recovered from his pocket in which he held a widow and her son responsible for his act, police said.

Five killed as Boko Haram attacks border towns

In a fresh wave of violence in Nigeria, five people including two policemen were killed in separate attacks by suspected Islamist extremist militia Boko Haram targetting churches and border posts.

Members of Boko Haram numbering 50 attacked Nigeria’s border towns of Gamboru and Ngala near Niger and Chad respectively, where they killed two policemen. They also killed three persons during an exchange of gunfire with security agencies in Maiduguri, the capital of northern Borno state.

Nearly 20 crore SIMs deactivated by service providers in India with total balance Rs 128.9 cr

Telecom regulator TRAI has initiated debate on the issue of operators arbitrarily disconnecting services of customers on the grounds of ’non-usage of numbers’ or ‘inactive SIM connections’.

According to information provided by telecom operators to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, around 20 crore SIMs were inactive for over a certain period of time and the total balance on that account stood at Rs. 128.9 crore.

GPP should withdraw from Maninagar: Shweta Bhatt

Congress candidate from Maninagar, Shweta Bhatt, on Sunday appealed Keshubhai Patel-led Gujarat Parivartan Party to withdraw its candidate from the fray.

Bhatt, the wife of suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, is contesting the election against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi from Maninagar.

The constituency is considered to be a BJP stronghold.

“I appeal to all the political parties which oppose BJP to support me in my political battle against the Gujarat chief minister… I appeal especially to GPP Chief Keshubhai Patel to withdraw his candidate,” Bhatt told reporters.

MNS corporator slaps elderly man over water shortage

A Maharashtra Navnirman Sena corporator repeatedly slapped a 65-year-old private contractor over the alleged ‘delay’ in repairing a damaged water pipeline.

The footage of the assault, which was telecast by news channels in Mumbai on Saturday, showed MNS corporator Nitin Nikam repeatedly hitting D G Patil over water shortage in Ganeshwadi locality in full public view.

Patil is a private contractor in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation in neighbouring Thane district.
