India to issue 3,000 visa to Pak cricket fans; 300 for VIPs

India will issue 3,000 visas to Pakistani fans and an additional 300 visas to VIPs of that country to witness the upcoming Indo-Pak limited over cricket series beginning December 25.

For the first time, India has also agreed to issue multiple city visa to the cricket lovers of the neighbouring country provided they show tickets for the matches, travelling tickets and hotel reservation slips.

The decisions have been conveyed to Pakistan, Home Ministry sources said.

No info received about Taliban planning attacks: Hyderabad police

Hyderabad police on Thursday said they had received no alert about any faction of Pakistani Taliban planning to carry out attacks in the city as well as in Amritsar to revenge 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Kasab’s execution.

“I would like to clarify… We have not got any such report, either from local, state or any other intelligence agency. However, it does not mean we are not alert. We are alert to any such threat,” Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma said here.

Govt’s guidelines to prevent misuse of Sec 66

Yielding to public protests on the recent controversial arrest of some persons for their Facebook posts, Government today came out with guidelines where a police officer no less than the rank of DCP can sanction prosecution.

In metropolitan cities, such an approval would have to be given by officers at the level of Inspector General of Police(IGP).

Only officers of these ranks will be allowed to permit registration of a case for offences under the Information Technlogy(IT) Act relating to spreading hatred through electronic messages in a bid to prevent the misuse of the legislation.

Afghan girl beheaded after rejecting marriage proposal

A 15-year-old girl in Afghanistan was beheaded by a relative after she and her family turned down the man’s marriage proposal, a British daily reported.

The victim named Gisa was decapitated with a knife in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province, police told the Daily Mail.

Police said two men, Sadeq and Massoud, were arrested after the murder. They are close relatives of the victim and live in the same village.

Police said the men wanted to marry the girl, but their advances were turned down by the victim’s father.

Indian-origin woman dies of rabies in Britain

A 58-year-old woman of Indian origin, who was bitten by her son’s pet dog when she was visiting him in India in March, has died of rabies infection in Britain.

Sharanjit Ubhi went to Darent Valley Hospital, Kent, complaining of pain in her right arm, but she was turned away, the Daily Mail reported.

Ubhi had not mentioned being bitten by a dog and her observations appeared “normal”, but when she developed hydrophobia the family doctor recognised the symptoms and sent her for specialist treatment.

Namdhari booked under murder charges: Police to court

Sacked Uttarakahnd minority panel chief Sukhdev Singh Namdhari has been booked on charges of murder in liquor baron Ponty Chadha’s shootout case, the Delhi police today told a court, which extended the police custody of the politico by three more days.

Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav extended Namdhari’s police custody till December 2 saying the Crime Branch has to unearth the conspiracy behind the November 17 shootout, in which Ponty and his brother Hardeep had lost their lives.

Geetika suicide case: Police seeks speedy court proceedings

The Delhi Police today sought expeditious court proceedings in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, involving Haryana minister Gopal Kanda, but failed to ensure the presence of its investigating officer in the court for the purpose.

In an application to Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate D K Jangala, police said the proceedings in the matter should be expedited as it has been over three months since the case was registered.

The Oil Ministry will raise the cap on supply of subsidised cooking gas (LPG) to 9 cylinders per household in a year provided the Finance Ministry agrees to give an additional Rs 3,000 crore in 2012-13.

US express concern over Chinese map with disputed territories

The United States today came out in support of India and other neighbours of China on the issue of Beijing issuing passports having a map of disputed territories and that of parts of other nations.

The State Department officials are formally scheduled to convey to the Chinese its opposition to such a passport, which it believes is causing tension in the region. The US would continue to accept these passports as travel documents.

India, Bangladesh help lower migration figures in Britain

The number of foreign students coming to Britain, particularly from countries like India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, has fallen by around 19,000, says a new British government report.

However, the number of foreign students coming from Pakistan rose from 20,000 to 30,000, the Telegraph cited the report by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) as saying.

Drops across other countries, in particular from India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, saw the overall number of foreign students fall from 232,000 to 213,000, the report said.

Identity proof must for sleeper-class passengers from Saturday

It will be mandatory for sleeper- class train passengers to carry identity proof from December 1, this year as Railways firmed up steps to prevent misuse of tickets by touts and facilitate hassle-free travel by bonafide people.

From Saturday (December 1), passengers failing to produce original identity proof in sleeper class, as and when asked for, will be treated as “without ticket” and charged accordingly, said a senior Railway Ministry official.

Mamata orders judicial probe into Tehatta firing

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday ordered a judicial probe into the recent police firing in Nadia district, and admitted police action in Birbhum district’s Loba village which resulted in a clash leaving 33 injured was “a mistake”.

“I didn’t like the incidents which occurred in Tehatta of Nadia district and Loba in Birbhum. My government has never been and will be anti-people,” Banerjee told media persons at the state secretariat, Writers’ Buildings.
