After matching tough dance steps with ace choreographer Prabhudheva in “Oh My God!”, actress Sonakshi Sinha recently challenged herself with some Kathakali steps on the set of “Dabangg 2”.

The 25-year-old tried some steps of the classical dance form while shooting for the song “Dagabaaz re” from the movie.

JTHJ mints Rs 101.26 crore at Indian box office

“Jab Tak Hai Jaan” (JTHJ), Yash Chopra’s last directorial venture, continues to mint money. The romantic saga has earned Rs.101.26 crore at the domestic box office in 11 days since its release.

The movie, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, released on 2,500 screens on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, Nov 13.

Made at a budget of Rs.50 crore, the film has surpassed the Rs.100 crore mark in the Indian market, even though it had crossed the milestone figure in terms of worldwide collections within six days of hitting the screens.

Namdhari sent to police custody till Nov 28

A court here Friday sent Sukhdev Singh Namdhari, an eyewitness to the Nov 17 shootout at a farmhouse here in which liquor baron Ponty Chadha and brother Hardeep were killed, to five days in police custody.

Namdhari was sacked as chairman of the Uttarakhand Minority Commission after the shootout and was arrested from his farmhouse in Uttarakhand Friday.

Delhi Police, seeking the custody of Namdhari, accused him of being the main conspirator in Ponty Chadha shootout case, saying that he fired at Hardeep Chadha.

Seven killed in Pakistan blast

At least seven people, including three children, were killed and 18 injured in Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province Saturday after a blast occurred near a Muharram procession, Geo News reported.

According to bomb disposal squad, the massive blast, for which 8-10 kg of explosives were used, occurred in the province’s Dera Ismail Khan city in the morning.

The bomb was planted in a garbage dump, said police.

The army was called in to take over security in the city.

Businessman robbed of Rs.22 lakh at gunpoint

A 52-year-old businessman was robbed of Rs.22 lakh by motorcycle-borne assailants who hit him with helmet and threatened him with a gun in south Delhi, police said Saturday.

“The incident was reported 9.30 p.m. Friday, while businessman Kamal Chandra, owner of a money exchange shop in South Extension Part II, was all set to leave his office,” a police official said.

Chandra was walking towards his car when the assailants struck, police said.

Fire at Bengal’s largest state-run hospital

A fire broke out near the paediatric ward of West Bengal’s largest state-run hospital SSKM Saturday night. There was panic but no casualties or injuries, an official said.

The fire has been arrested, said SSKM hospital superintendent Tamal Kanti Ghosh.

Around 80 children admitted in the Allex ward were evacuated through the back door.

“Four fire tenders were rushed to control the fire. The situation is now under control. All children are safe,” said a fire brigade official.

Russian scientist jailed for spying walks free

Russian physicist Valentin Danilov, who was convicted in 2004 for passing data on satellite technology to China walked to freedom Saturday after eight years in prison, pledging he would continue studying science.

“Of course, I will be involved in science, just not related to outer space,” said Danilov during a press conference after his release, adding “because everything space-related in our country is a state secret”.

He was paroled earlier this month for the remainder of his 14-year prison sentence.

Missile launch centre to come up in coastal Andhra

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) plans to set up a missile launch site in the coastal town of Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs.1,000 crore.

DRDO chief V.K. Saraswat, who is also the scientific advisor to the defence minister, told reporters here Friday that they had asked the state government to allot 260 acres of land to set up the long-range missile testing centre.

“As soon as the government clearance comes for land, we will start creating infrastructure. It will take three years to set up the centre,” he said.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is all set to lead the state for the third successive term, with an increased number of seats, says the opinion poll conducted by ABP News and AC Nielsen in October.

Sixteen-year-old Nischal Nadhamuni from Bangalore scored 100 percent in a standard test for admission to colleges in the US, Mallya Aditi International School said Saturday.

“Nischal, who is reading in Class 11 in our school, got 2400 out of 2400 in the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), a standardised test for college admissions in the US, by scoring 800 points each in Mathematics, Critical Reading and Writing subjects,” the school said in a statement here.

18 killed in China mine accident

As many as 18 miners were killed and five others remained trapped at a coal mine in China Saturday after a gas and coal outburst.

The accident occurred in the morning in Guizhou province, leaving a total of 28 miners trapped in the collapsed mine. At least five of the trapped miners were rescued till late evening, reported Xinhua citing local officials.

The mine, operated by Pannan Coal Exploitation Co. Ltd., is located in Panxian county of the coal-rich Liupanshui City. It went into operation in 2006 with an initial output of 4 million tonnes a year.

Over 10,000 marriages in Delhi Sunday

More than 10,000 couples in the capital will be tying the knot Sunday and the number is expected to remain the same Monday, owing to the auspicious three-day period that begins Saturday.

According to Ravindra Nagar, head priest at the Birla Mandir in central Delhi: “The jupiter and moon are in the appropriate houses on these three days and couples who will get married during this period will stay together for the next seven births.”

“The couple will be blessed with a child within one year of the nuptial,” he added.

26 injured in Moharram clashes in UP

Violence between two Muslim sects left more than 26 people injured in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district Saturday, police said.

The clashes, officials informed IANS, broke out between two groups at Abdulahpur village over the issue of beating of drums.

“One side asked the other not to do so but the others did not relent, leading to violence,” Meerut Senior Superintendent of police (SSP) K. Satyanarayan told IANS.

Since the ‘Majlis’, a religious congregation of Shias was underway, a group took umbrage to the beating of the drums and soon clashes erupted between the two sides.

Haryana AIIMS to have India’s biggest cancer centre: Azad

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Gulam Nabi Azad Saturday announced that a National Cancer Institute (NCI) would come up in the AIIMS-2 campus at Badhsa village in Haryana, which would be an even bigger facility than the Tata Cancer Institute, Mumbai.

A National Cardio Care Centre (NCCC) would also be set up in this institute, he said.

The health minister was speaking after inaugurating the outreach OPD of AIIMS Badhsa village, 40 km from New Delhi, in Haryana’s Jhajjar district.
