UAE residency law violators can seek amnesty

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has called on violators of its entry and residency laws to benefit from the country’s new amnesty provisions.

The violators of the entry and residency law would be granted permits to leave the country, in case, they handed themselves up voluntarily to the competent authorities within the time limit specified by the ministry, an interior ministry official said.

TRS Executive Committee’s meet postponed to Nov 30

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Monday postponed its Executive Committee’s meeting to November 30.
The TRS Executive Committee was originally scheduled to meet on Tuesday. However,in view of the Special Session of State Legislative Assembly on SC/ST Sub-Plan, the meeting has been postponed to November 30. Similarly, party’s Palle Bata programme has been postponed from November 30 to December 5.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court today asked the Chandrayangutta Police to complete investigation into the murder of Ibrahim Bin Younus Yafai and file a final report within three months.

CM orders probe into Manikonda fire accident

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy expressed shock and anguish over the ghastly fire accident in Manikonda of Ranga Reddy district on Sunday night.

The Chief Minister spoke to Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy and at the instructions of Chief Minister, District Collector A Vani Prasad and Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dwaraka Tirumala Rao visited and personally supervised relief operations. Kiran Kumar Reddy asked the Disasters Response and Fire Services Department to investigate into the incident and submit a comprehensive report.

Girl killed by cousin in freak firing incident

A 12-year-old girl was killed in celebratory firing by her cousin at a wedding here, police said Monday. The shooter is absconding.

Shivi received bullet injury around 10.45 p.m. Sunday at the ceremony organised in I.P. Motel banquet situated in west Delhi’s Mundka.

“The bullet pierced Shivi’s heart, causing her death on the spot,” said a police officer.

Her cousin, Shankar, was making celebratory firing using his uncle’s pistol when one of the bullets fired by him accidentally hit the girl, added the officer.

Iran to unveil missile-launching warship

Iran will unveil an indigenous missile-launching warship Nov 28, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said Monday.

“One of the new achievements of the navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is Sinai 7 missile-launching warship,” Sayyari was quoted as saying by Press TV.

“Two new Ghadir-class submarines will also become operational on Wednesday (Nov 28) and an advanced simulator for instructing the personnel of Ghadir submarine will be unveiled,” he said.

Bangladesh declares national mourning for fire victims

The Bangladesh government has declared Tuesday, Nov 27, to be a day of national mourning for all those who lost their lives in Saturday’s devastating garment factory fire and in a flyover collapse.

At least 123 people were killed in the garment factory fire in Ashulia on the outskirts of Dhaka and in a flyover collapse in the southeastern port city of Chittagong. The factory fire claimed 111 lives and the 12 others perished in the flyover collapse, according to official figures.

Russia’s new attack sub fires first cruise missile

Russia’s newest attack submarine, the Project 855 Severodvinsk, has successfully fired its first cruise missile at a land target during the manufacturer’s sea trials in the White Sea.

The Severodvinsk is one of eight Yasen-class boats being built for the Russian Navy.

“The multi-role nuclear-powered submarine Severodvinsk fired a supersonic cruise missile at a land target for the first time during sea trials in the White Sea. The target was successfully destroyed,” said a source in the United Shipbuilding Corporation.

As outrage on Indian dentist Savita Halappanavar’s death in Ireland continues, the country’s Education Minister Ciaran Cannon said his government will take a decision on its abortion policy after they get reports on her case.

“First of all, I extend my sympathy to the Halappanavar family. Ireland is one of the best places in the world to have a baby, we are proud of our health care system. To bring clarity to the incident, we have set up a commission to look into the case,” Cannon, who is here on an official visit, told IANS.

US aims to keep 10,000 troops in Afghan post 2014

US may keep a combat force of around 10,000 in Afghanistan, including a small counter-terrorism force after 2014 as a contingency against re-emergence of al-Qaeda.
A post-2014 troop level of that size has been recommended by Gen John Allen, the commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, American media reports said quoting top US officials.

Under the emerging plan, NATO forces in parallel effort would advice Afghan forces at major regional military and police headquarters, but most likely with a minimal battlefield role.

OMC Case: HC rejects Rajagopal’s bail plea

The Andhra High Court on Monday rejected the bail plea of VD Rajagopal, former Managing Director of Mines Department, in the Obulapuram Mining Company’s illegal iron-ore mining case.
Rajagopal, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on November 13,applied for bail stating that the investigation in the case was completed and the CBI has already filed the charge sheet. However, his bail plea was opposed by the investigating agency. After hearing the arguments and counter-arguments, the court rejected his bail

Superstar Aamir Khan took swimming lessons to prepare for a key scene in his upcoming thriller Talaash.

Aamir, 47, who did not know swimming at all, also learned underwater swimming, which is more difficult than the regular one, for his character of Inspector Surjan Singh Shekhawat.

“Actually Dave (trainer) is helping me prepare under water sequence, he is helping me with breathing exercises which increases my lung power and allows me to stay under water for longer,” Aamir had said.

BJP issues notice to Jethmalani

The Bharatiya Janata Party Monday issued a show cause notice to its suspended leader Ram Jethmalani, asking him why he should not be expelled from the party for six years.

“The parliamentary board discussed the anti-party actions of Mr. Ram Jethmalani. The parliamentary party found appropriate the decision of party president Nitin Gadkari to suspend Jethmalani for his indiscipline and anti-party activities,” BJP leader Ananth Kumar told reporters.

‘The Attacks of 26/11’ profits will be donated to victims: Producer

The profits earned from Ram Gopal Varma-directed “The Attacks of 26/11”, about the 2008 terror attacks in the city, will be donated to victims and heroes, says the film’s producer Parag Sanghvi.

As many as 10 Pakistani terrorists attacked Taj Mahal Hotel, Oberoi Trident Hotel, Nariman House and CST railway station here on Nov 26, 2008 and killed 166 people.

Sanghvi told IANS: “I don’t look at this film as a commercial venture. The profit that will be earned from the film will be given to the victims and heroes of the Mumbai attacks.”

Thackeray’s ashes to be immersed at Kanyakumari Tuesday

The ashes of Bal Thackeray, the Shiv Sena patriarch, will arrive here Tuesday and would be taken in a procession for immersion at Kanyakumari, a party statement said here.

Thackeray died in Mumbai Nov 17 and was cremated a day later.

In a statement issued Monday, the Kerala unit of the Shiv Sena said Thackeray’s ashes would be taken over from party legislator Dipak Sawant by state leader M.S. Bhuvendran at the airport around 9 a.m.

Pakistani journalist escapes bid on life

A Pakistani journalist and TV anchor escaped an attempt on his life Monday when explosives were found attached to his car’s under-carriage here in the Pakistani capital, media reports said.

Hamid Mir, a senior anchor in Geo TV, was returning home from a market in Islamabad when his neighbour’s driver spotted a suspicious object attached to the under-carriage of Mir’s car.

The bomb was apparently planted when he stopped at a market. The explosive device was found stuck right under the front passenger seat of the car, police said.

Pakistan’s teenaged rights activist Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Taliban for standing up against the terror outfit and pushing for education for girls, has been ranked sixth by Foreign Policy magazine in its top 100 global thinkers list.

Aung San Suu Kyi, who continues her struggle for democracy in Myanmar, is ranked first on the list which also features former US president Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Patel agreeable to import duty cuts on luxury cars from EU

Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel Monday said his ministry is agreeable to cutting duty on luxury cars imported from Europe as part of the proposed India-European Union free trade agreement.

The readiness to accept duty cuts was in the interest of Indian small car exports to Europe, the minister said.

“The India-EU FTA has to be concluded at some future date… of course, it cannot be open ended,” Patel told media persons here on the sidelines of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’ (SIAM) summit on diesel technology.
