Jaitley refuses to comment on Jethmalani charges

BJP leader Arun Jaitley today refused to get into a war of words with Ram Jethmalani, who has accused him of having a role in the CBI Director appointment controversy.

Replying to a question about Jethmalani, who has been suspended from the party, Jaitley said, “I don’t think he (Jethmalani) deserves the reply any more”.

Asked whether BJP was lenient on Yashwant Sinha and Shatrughan Sinha, who have also demanded the resignation of Gadkari, he said, “well we do not discuss all these issues”.

He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who is playing a police officer in his soon to be released film `Talaash`, says women should be more vocal about the crimes being committed against them.
The 47-year-old actor, who is in the state to promote the film, interacted with women at a programme here and said that they should raise their voice against crime.

“Women should not stay silent about the crimes being committed against them, rather they should raise a strong voice,” said Aamir.

Bail plea of Pak suspect charged over 26/11 attacks rejected

A Pakistani court today rejected the bail petition filed by Jamil Ahmad, one of the seven men charged by authorities with planning, financing and executing the Mumbai terror attacks four years ago.

A two-judge Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court rejected Ahmad’s petition after hearing arguments from his counsel and the lawyer of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Earlier this month, the court had issued a notice to the FIA to respond to Ahmad’s bail plea.

Man jumps before metro train, dies

A 22-year-old man committed suicide by jumping before a Delhi Metro train here, police said Tuesday.

Deepak Kwatra, a resident of Jagatpuri in east Delhi, allegedly jumped on the tracks in east Delhi’s Preet Vihar station around 11.50 p.m. Monday.

“No suicide note was recovered. It is yet to be ascertained why he took the extreme step,” said a police officer.

He had got a job with a private firm in Hauz Khas in south Delhi only four days ago, police said.

Yuvraj Singh to narrate stories of courage on ‘The Unbreakables’

Star cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been roped in to host a new TV series, “The Unbreakables”, which will unfold stories if courage in the face of adversities.

The show will go on air on Nat Geo starting Dec 24.

The cricketer, who has battled cancer, is an inspiration to fans worldwide. He will narrate tales of others’ valour – of people who were captured and held hostage by guerrilla groups while on an adventure tour, and of another person who was forced to smuggle cocaine at gun-point.

Yuvraj is happy about his association with such a show.

Dikshit in hospital for check-up

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was Tuesday admitted to a private hospital for a “routine check-up”, an aide said.

“She has been admitted to Escorts Hospital for a routine check up. It is a normal check-up,” Mukesh Sharma, parliamentary secretary to the chief minister, told IANS.

“There is no need to worry and she will be discharged soon,” he added.

In December 2011, Dikshit, 73, was admitted to Escorts Hospital following high fever and viral infection.

Pakistan offers Rs.200 mn reward for Taliban leader

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik Tuesday said anyone providing information on Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan would be awarded Rs.200 million, the Dawn reported.

Malik said Ehsan was working for foreign elements, and questioned as to what kind of Shariah or ISlamic law the Taliban wanted to enforce that legitimised the killing of innocent people and sanctioned suicide bombings.

The minister said the Pakistani Taliban was a divided organisation, and now constituted of various groups, including the Waliur Rehman faction and the Hakimullah Mehsud group.

Man held for raping daughter in Himachal

A 52-year-old man was arrested here Tuesday for allegedly raping his 15-year-old daughter on several occasions in the past one year, police said.

Inder Singh of Golchha village in Himachal Pradesh’ Shimla district raped his daughter twice at his residence Monday night too, Deputy Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar told IANS by phone.

He said the man would be presented in a court Wednesday.

The girl, who had been taking contraceptive pills for quite some time, herself lodged the complaint with police, he added.

’17 percent of Indian working women face sexual harassment’

As many as 17 percent of working women in India have experienced sexual harassment at their workplace, according to a survey released Tuesday.

The survey was conducted in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Durgapur by Oxfam India and the Social and Rural Research Institute.

“About 17 percent of working women in India feel that they have experienced acts of sexual harassment at workplace, indicating a high incidence of sexual harassment among working women from both the organised and unorganised sectors,” the survey found.

Sri Lanka’s first satellite launched

Sri Lanka’s first communication satellite developed by a private company was Tuesday launched by a Chinese state-owned firm from a space centre in China, Xinhua reported.

The satellite is a joint venture between Sri Lankan company SupremeSAT (Pvt) Ltd and China Great Wall Industry Corp. It was launched from the Xi Chang satellite launch centre in Sichuan province.

The satellite, SupremeSAT-1, will provide communications services including broadband internet, telecom and broadcasting services to the Middle East, South and Central Asia and Australia.

For the stuffing:

boneless & skinless chicken-2 lb
onions- 1
coriander powder – 1/2 tbsp
garam masala- 1 tsp
turmeric powder- 1/4 tsp
chillipowder- 1/2 tsp(or according to taste)
curry leaves- a few
coriander leaves chopped
oil- 1 tbsp
salt to taste

For the dough:

Wheat flour- 1lb
ghee or butter- 1 1/2 tbsp
salt to taste

Instructions

Make the dough using the above ingredients and keep it aside for 1/2-1 hr. Keep the dough covered with a moist cloth.

Ingredients:

6 Large potatoes
2 Cups besan
1 Cup water
4 Cups oil
2 tsp Red chilli powder
1 tsp Mango powder
Salt to taste

Procedure:

Wash potatoes and cut it into thin slices.
Add water to besan and make a batter of thick consistency.
Add red chilli powder, mango powder.
Blend it well.
Heat the oil.
Dip each piece of potato in batter.
Fry these potato pieces one by one till they turn golden brown.
Serve hot Aloo Pakora with tomato sauce.

Pakistan’s judges are using their contempt of court powers to muzzle the media from airing their independent views critical of the judiciary, Human Rights Watch has said.

Since Pakistan’s independent judiciary was restored to office in 2009, Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and provincial high courts have repeatedly sought to prevent media criticism of the judiciary through threats of contempt of court proceedings, which can bring prison terms, the New York-based watch group said.

A study on families of disappeared persons (DPs) in Jammu and Kashmir has thrown up some startling data: more than 72 percent of those who disappeared after being picked up by security forces or militants in the last 23 years were innocent civilians.

The term ‘DPs’ is used to describe those people who were picked up from their homes or other places in the presence of witnesses, family members or friends, on suspicion of being militants by security forces or by separatists on suspicions of being police informers and were never seen again.

A gene that protects the human embryo could possibly treat and subdue chronic infections such as HIV, hepatitis and tuberculosis.

The newly discovered gene, called Arih2, is basic to the immune system – making critical decisions about whether to switch it on during an infection or not.

Marc Pellegrini, Greg Ebert and colleagues from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research’s infection and immunity division, Australia, with collaborators from the University of Toronto, Canada, led the research, the journal Nature Immunology reported.

Pakistan offers amnesty to banned outfits

Pakistan will give a general amnesty to all banned groups, including the Pakistani Taliban, if they give up terrorism, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said in remarks published Tuesday.

“If proscribed organisations agree to cooperate with the government and give up terrorism, they will be removed from the list of banned organisations,” the Dawn newspaper quoted Malik as saying late Monday.

The minister said it was time for Tehrik-i-Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud, whether he was physically fit or suffering from any disability, to apologize to the nation for killing innocents.

Syria releases names of killed foreign fighters

A pro-government Syrian daily Tuesday published the names of 142 fighters from foreign countries killed in Syria over the past month, Xinhua reported.

The Al-Watan daily said the government has sent the list to the UN Security Council.

The list includes 47 Saudis, 24 Libyans, 10 Tunisians, nine Egyptians, six Qataris, five Lebanese, 11 Afghans, five Turks, three Chechens and two each from Azerbaijan and Chad.

They were killed in the provinces of Aleppo, Homs, Idlib, Deir al-Zour and Hasaka.

CM to tour Anantapur district on Nov 29

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will tour Anantapur district on Thursday.

According to a CMO release, the Chief Minister will leave from Begumpet airport by helicopter at 11.30 AM and reach foreshore area of Jeedipalli reservoir in Jeedipalli village of Urvakonda mandal and meet officials and non officials. In the afternoon he will visit photo exhibition on Handri Neeva Sujala Shravanthi and Bhagirath Vijaya Yatra. He will also dedicate Jeedipalli reservoir to the nation and then address a public meeting.
