Director Kabir Khan, who cast Salman Khan as a RAW agent in ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, says the actor is apt to become India`s James Bond.

“Salman, I think, has the charisma and the sheer presence that a Bond needs,” the 41-year-old said here Wednesday at the premiere of latest 007 movie ‘Skyfall’.

“You look at him, he is strong, silent. But you know when he, sort of, goes into action, there is going to be a lot of thrill,” he added.

Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel lift Sensex by 56 points

Reversing early losses, the BSE benchmark Sensex on Thursday bounced back to close over 56 points up helped by 5 per cent rise in Tata Motors shares on hopes of robust October sales and over 4 per cent rise in Bharti Airtel ahead of a key meeting to consider spectrum refarming issue.

The Sensex, which had gained 74.53 points in Wednesday’s trade, opened weak and was down over 60 points weighed down by Reliance Industries, HUL, ITC and Infosys in initial trades.

The network of neurons (nerve cells) that allows us to empathise also dumbs down the brain`s analytical network, says the study by the Case Western Reserve University.

The findings show for the first time that we have a built-in neural constraint on our ability to be both empathetic and analytic simultaneously.

When the analytic network is engaged, our ability to appreciate the human cost of our action is repressed, the journal NeuroImage reports.

Gold ends flat; silver zooms by Rs 850 on stockists buying

Gold prices closed unchanged at Rs. 31,500 per 10 grams in the bullion market in New Delhi on Thursday, while silver shot up by Rs. 850 to Rs. 60,250 on buying by stockists amid higher global advices.

Traders said lack of buying support at existing higher levels kept gold flat, while increased buying by dealers for the festive as well as the wedding season led to a rise in silver’s price. Besides, a firming trend overseas in silver also influenced the sentiment, they said.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its complications can kill at any age, warns a new study.

The study from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health shows that the prevalence of CKD shoots up with age from four percent between 20 and 39 years to 54 percent among adults who have crossed 75 years.

Bloomberg researchers analysed data involving more than two million participants across Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South America, from 46 studies conducted from 1972 to 2011, the journal JAMA reported.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has held that a Muslim man’s power to divorce his wife is not “unrestricted or unqualified”.

Justice Hasnain Masoodi in his 23-page judgment extensively went into details of the Shariah law and Quranic injunctions to hold that a “husband cannot have unrestricted or unqualified power to pronounce the Talaaq.”

The court delved into the fundamental sources of Shariah law to understand the concept of marriage in Islam, the rights of the parties to the marriage contract and the mode and manner the contract is dissolved.

Scientists have developed a super sensitive test kit — 10 times more accurate than the gold standard methods currently available — to detect prostate cancer and viral infections at the earliest stages.

Gold standard is any standardised reliable clinical assessment, which is generally taken to be the best available.

Researchers from the Imperial College London also report that their visual sensor technology is more sensitive for measuring biomarkers, (specific biochemical indicating disease progression), which indicate the onset of prostate cancer and HIV.

New York Marathon to be held despite Sandy

The New York Marathon will go ahead Sunday as scheduled in spite of huge damages from Superstorm Sandy, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.

Marathon officials were proceeding as planned to stage the annual event that runs through all five boroughs of the largest city in America, but they were awaiting the final word from city officials regarding the staging of the race, reports Xinhua.

No power rotation pact with JMM in Jharkhand: BJP

The BJP on Thursday said there was no pre-condition about rotation of power with the JMM, a major coalition partner in the Arjun Munda-headed Jharkhand government, when it was formed two years ago.

While stating this, BJP Jharkhand unit president Dineshanand Goswami told a press conference, “You can enquire from other coalition partners the JD(U) and the AJSU Party in this regard.”

DRDO, PM’s adviser websites come under cyber attack

Websites of key Indian government organisations, including an advisor to the prime minister and the defence establishment DRDO, reportedly came under cyber attacks Wednesday night, leading to their shutdown for a while, government sources said Thursday.

The government sources said some “suspicious and unwanted” activity was observed on these websites, maintained by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), following which these were shut down for a couple of hours.

Audi India sales jump 76% in October

German luxury car maker Audi on Thursday reported 76 per cent jump in October sales at 850 units as against 482 units in the same month last year.

Buoyed by sales in October, the company said it is confident of crossing the sales target of 8,000 units in 2012.

“Keeping our performance in mind, we are confident of surpassing the 2012 sales target of 8,000 units even before the year comes to an end,” Audi India Head Michael Perschke said in a statement.

A community panchayat in Dausa issued a fresh diktat for girls in a meeting convened in Bhandarej on Wednesday. After the all-caste meeting, panchayat members forbade girls from wearing scarfs and keeping mobile phones with them for their own safety.

Oil truck explodes in Riyadh, 14 killed, over 60 injured

An Oil truck crashed into a concrete flyover and exploded on Thursday in Riyadh. 14 people reportedly killed and at least 60 other injured.

According to a report published on Al-Arabiya, the accident had occurred at a junction on Khurays Road, one of the Riyadh’s main arteries and that the blast damaged neighboring houses and cars.

An AFP photographer who were there at the scene said that huge damage in the area with dozens of cars burned. He said he saw civil defence personnel carrying two bodies “completely charred.”
