Memory loss can begin as early as our thirties, although the average age we experience such lapses is 57, according to a study.

In an online poll in Britain, 11 percent of respondents said they had started to notice their memory suffering in their 40s. Six percent had noticed it in their 30s.

The survey also revealed that the over-50s are plagued by the fear of memory loss and many have frequent and embarrassing memory lapses, the Daily Mail reported Friday.

Drying laundry indoors bad for health

Drying clothes indoors could cause health problems, particularly to those prone to asthma, hay fever and other allergies, say researchers.

A study found many homes in Britain had too much moisture indoors and up to 30 percent of this was caused by laundry, the Daily Mail reported Friday.

The researchers said three-quarters of homes surveyed had moisture levels that could lead to dust mite growth and were at risk of increased concentration of mould spores.

The reduction in air quality has been tied to asthma and other allergic conditions.

Women fast for husband’s long life on Karva Chauth

Firecrackers went off at around 9 p.m. Friday as the moon finally showed up in the hazy night sky, to the great relief of the multitudes of fasting women in the Indian capital who were fasting for the long life of their husbands on Karva Chauth.

Some flyovers had an unusual spectacle in the evening – hundreds of couples all dressed in their best – looking skyward in the fervent hope of sighting the moon.

Mohammedan Sporting footballer suffers head injury

Mohammedan Sporting forward David Sunday fell unconscious after colliding with a Police AC defender during a Calcutta Football League premier league game here Friday.

The incident happened in the 12th minute of the Salt Lake Stadium game, when Sunday attempted to intercept a cross and collided with the defender.

He was rushed to a hospital and a CT scan was done.

However, the report did not reveal any blood clot.

He has been kept under observation, a Mohammedan Sporting official said.

The much-awaited Apple’s iPhone 5 hit the Indian market Friday after being launched globally Sep 21.

The smartphone has been priced at Rs.45,500 for the 16GB model, Rs.52,500 for the 32GB model and Rs.59,500 for the 64GB model.

iPhone 5 is the thinnest and lightest iPhone and features a new four-inch retina display and an Apple-designed A6 chip. It is 7.6 mm thin and weighs 112 grams, 18 percent thinner and 20 per cent lighter than iPhone 4S.

Like every year, hundreds of fans gathered outside his bungalow ‘Mannat’ in suburban Bandra to catch his glimpse,
which made Shah Rukh “emotional”.

Dressed in an off-white jacket, black T-shirt and blue denims, the actor cut the cake with the media.

Jailed former legislator Munna Shukla of the ruling Janata Dal (United) Friday distributed pamphlets appealing to people to participate in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s “Adhikar Yatra”.

After a hue and cry was raised by the opposition, six police officials — one sub-inspector and five police constables — were suspended in this connection.

Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar ordered the suspensions and also initiated an inquiry into the incident.

Etihad launches Abu Dhabi-Ahmedabad flight

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, has launched flights between Abu Dhabi and Ahmedabad, making it the airline’s ninth destination in India.

The Abu Dhabi-based Airlines, which launched the flight yesterday, now flies to nine Indian destinations including New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram,Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kochi.

Etihad flies a total of 59 flights to India per week.

Over 90 killed in superstorm Sandy, upto USD 50 bln losses

The death toll in Superstorm Sandy-hit areas climbed to 92 today, as the US came to terms with the enormity of the disaster that has caused an estimated economic damage of up to USD 50 billion.

Superstorm Sandy howled over a series of countries, killing 92 in the United States itself. New York state, the worst-hit, had 48 deaths, including 41 in New York City,authorities said.

Disaster modelling company firm EQECAT estimates the total economic damage from the superstorm at between USD 30 billion and USD 50 billion, the CNN reported.

The pre-storm estimate was up to USD 20 billion.

‘Salman Khan, cops want to delay hit-and-run case trial’

Accusing the Mumbai police of being hand-in-glove with the Bollywood actor Salman Khan in a bid to “delay” the trial of a hit-and-run case involving him, IPS officer-turned-lawyer YP Singh today sought a high-level probe by the Maharashtra government against the investigators concerned.

WorldSpace radio makes a comeback via Airtel Digital TV

Satellite radio WorldSpace is making a comeback in India with Bharti Airtel tying up with Timbre Media, the licensee of the brand, for broadcasting it on its DTH platform.

As part of the partnership, Airtel Digital TV — the DTH arm of Bharti Airtel — will offer the radio service on its iMusicSpace application, the company said in a statement.

The service has been launched on the DTH platform in association with Saregama and Timbre Media, who will jointly
provide the content for the application, it added.

4 Afghan police killed in insider attack

Four Afghan police officers were shot dead today in southern Helmand province in an insider attack by their colleagues, officials said.

Mohammad Toryali, police chief of Grish district, said the shooting occurred at a police outpost during a shift
change.

The officers on duty were killed by four of their colleagues who had arrived to replace them, Toryali said. The
killers fled.

At least 55 foreign troops have died in attacks by Afghan security forces this year. A similar number of Afghan
policemen and soldiers have been killed in similar attacks by colleagues.

Bilateral trade likely to increase 3-fold after FTA: Israel

The bilateral trade between India and Israel is likely to increase three-fold after the free trade agreement between the two countries is signed, a diplomat said.

The negotiations for Free Trade Agreement (FTA) are expected to be concluded by the end of this year, Consul
General of Israel in Mumbai Orna Sagiv told PTI here today.

The trade between the two countries was around USD 5 billion during the last financial year, which is expected to
touch USD 12-15 billion after the FTA, she said.
