Social Welfare hostels on the verge of closure

(Siasat News) YSR Congress alleged that hundreds of Social Welfare hostels are likely to be closed down. It demanded the Govt. to issue a white paper on the present status of S.C.’s hostels in the state. Mr. G. Ramachandra Rao, spokesman of YSR Congress stated this in a press conference held in Hyderabad yesterday. He told that the Govt. is in chaos. The hostel boarders of these hostels are forced to do part-time jobs to meet their expenses. He said that Congress assumed power with to the support of the weaker sections but it is neglecting them.

Speaker’s visit to Nizamabad

(Siasat News) Mr. N. Manohar, Speaker of A.P. Assembly will visit Nizamabad on 6th November. He will start from Hyderabad at 9 a.m. and would reach Balkonda at 12 noon. He will inaugurate newly constructed hostel for S.C’s, S.T.’s and B.C.’s students. The total cost of the hostel is Rs. 1.57 crore. Govt. has provided grant for the construction of the hostel under integrated scheme.

The speaker would take his lunch in the afternoon at Sri Ram Sagar Guest House and later would proceed to Hyderabad.

Panic about temple construction rumours at Charminar

(Siasat News) Rumours were making rounds in the old city yesterday that RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal activists are assembling at Charminar to participate in the extension work of Bhagyalakshmi temple. These rumours were being spread in the city for the past three days in an organized manner. Police failed to stop these rumours. Hundreds of citizens gathered near Charminar to express their concern. On receiving information, flour leaer of the local political party and other leaders reached there. DCP, South Zone Mr. Sabharwal also reached the spot. He tried to pacify the public.

Violence in Old city on sunday night

At around 12:30 am thousands gathered near Mecca masjid at Charminar as roumers spread that the BJP-VHP is taking out a rally at 2:00 am. Heavy police force deployed.

Heavy stone pelting took place in the area, and a number of shops have been damaged at Shahalibanda area. Some of the damaged shops include SBH ATM, and a supermarket.

DCP, South Zone Mr. Sabharwal reached the spot and tried to pacify the public.

The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Sydney, found that people who have suffered blood clots in the veins of the leg (deep vein thrombosis or DVT) or the lungs (pulmonary embolism or PE) are less likely to suffer a recurrence of the serious blood clots or a heart attack when on low-dose aspirin.

Three die as tourist train derails in Brazil

Three people were killed when a tourist train derailed near Campos de Jordao, a summer resort in Brazil’s Sao Paulo state, emergency services officials said Sunday.

The accident occurred Saturday between the cities of Pindamonhangaba and Campos do Jordao in the mountainous Vale do Paraiba region when a mudslide blocked the tracks, causing the train to derail, the fire department in the nearby city of Santo Antonio said.

Ten adults and two children were taken to a hospital in Campos de Jordao, while five people, all in serious condition, were transported to the city of Tabuate.

Five-year-old raped by teenager

A teenager has been arrested for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl at Silchar town of South Assam, police said on Sunday.

Subha Chakravarty (19), was alone at his home last evening when the girl, who stays in the neighbourhood, came to his house last night.

Taking advantage of the situation, Chakravarty allegedly raped the girl. Later, after returning home, the girl narrated the incident to her parents.

As soon as news spread, a group of locals went to the youth’s house and thrashed him. Later in the night, police arrested the youth.

Digvijay may contest 2014 LS polls if “party allows”

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Sunday made it clear that he might contest the 2014 Lok Sabha elections if his party gave him permission.

“I may contest the 2014 LS elections if the Congress allows me to do so,” he told reporters.

Singh had last contested the Assembly Elections in Madhya Pradesh in December 2003. At that time, he had announced that if his party lost, he would not contest any polls for another 10 years. The BJP had removed the ruling Congress from power at that time.

AP rain death toll reaches 22 as CM monitors relief operations

22 people have been killed in rain-related incidents in Andhra Pradesh as heavy rains continued to batter several regions under the influence of ‘Cyclone Nilam’.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh continued to bear the brunt of nature’s fury as villages and towns were inundated by swollen rivulets.

The rainfall was such that Narasapur in West Godavari district received a record 31 cms of rainfall in the last 24 hours, followed by 27 cms in Amalapuram, 25 cms in Rajahmundry (both in East Godavari district), 25 cms in Yelamanchili (Visakhapatnam dist), 23 cms in Koderu (West Godavari district).

New poll shows Presidential race between Obama-Romney tied

Just 48 hours before Election Day, the presidential race for the White House is tied, with both President Barack Obama and his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, receiving 48% support among likely votes, a new poll has found.

The latest ABC News/Washington Post survey also showed Sunday that even independents, whose decision can push one of the candidates over the top, are now evenly divided: 46% favor Obama and 46% Romney.

Narendra Modi came to Patna after a gap of 28 months and was lustily greeted by BJP workers who raised slogans wanting him to be the next Prime Minister.

Iran sets up naval base in Strait of Hormuz

Iran has set up a naval base in the Strait of Hormuz, a major oil route accounting for 25 percent of the world’s crude oil transportation.

It is located near Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Lengeh in Hormozgan province, some 1,100 km from Tehran, the Fars news agency reported.

It is the fifth naval base of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps in the Persian Gulf.

Iran has threatened to close the Strait in the Persian Gulf in response to any foreign attack. The country’s other key naval bases are also located in the region.

Gunmen attack Pakistan charity, three dead

Gunmen stormed an office of a charitable organisation in Pakistan Sunday night, killing at least three people and injuring six others.

The attack took place around 10.30 p.m. at the office of Ghosia Foundation in Hyderabad city, senior police superintendent Pir Fareed said.

Four gunmen entered the office and opened fire, Fareed said. The assailants fled the scene after the attack.

The foundation in Hyder Chowk is owned by a religious group.

Police have detained eight suspects, Xinhua reported.

Italy to back Afghanistan beyond 2014

Visiting Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti has said his government will continue to support Afghanistan after 2014 when the foreign troops leave.

Addressing a joint press conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai here Sunday, Monti said 2014 will be a year of change.

The international community will continue to support Afghanistan for peace in the region, Xinhua quoted the Italian prime minister as saying.

Some 3,500 Italian troops are serving in Afghanistan under the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF). They are based in militancy-plagued western region.
