Akshay promotes `Khiladi 786` in Pak through video chat

Pakistani fans of Bollywood star Akshay Kumar were in a for a special treat when the actor spoke to them through a video conference link to promote his upcoming movie ‘Khiladi 786’, which will be released on December 7.

The action star took several questions from the fans during the interaction held in Lahore yesterday. “I have been working on having the film`s premiere in Pakistan, for which I will try to come here,” Akshay said

Pakistan had become an important market for Indian movies, he said.

Malaika Arora Khan guarded about `Dabangg 2` role

She created a rage with her item number “Munni badnaam” in the 2010 film ‘Dabangg’, and in the movie`s sequel too, Malaika Arora Khan is expected to recreate the magic. But she is not ready to divulge any details about her part.

“I am a part of the film, but in what capacity, you will only know that once you see the film. So when you watch the film, then you will see me,” the 39-year-old said here Sunday at the Blender`s Pride Fashion Show.

Malaika has reportedly, recently shot for a song titled “Pandeyji seete mare” with her brother-in-law Salman Khan.

Neetu Wadhwa`s dream role – to play special child

She has featured in half-a-dozen shows, but designer-cum-dietician-cum-actress Neetu Wadhwa has still not found the role of her dreams.

The actress, who is currently busy writing a script, is keen to play a special child.

“Till now I haven`t got the role that I always wanted to do. All the shows I did had normal stories… you know how TV works. We don`t have much exposure to perform in TV. I want to play a special child,” she told IANS.

Films have been made on children with special need and Neetu feels it is high time television portrays this reality in their shows.

Spectrum auction: Tata Teleservices withdraws application

Tata Teleservices on Monday withdrew its application for participating in CDMA spectrum auction, leaving the fray for radiowaves in 800 Mhz band with no bidder as another player Videocon had walked out two days ago.

According to sources, Tata Teleservices has withdrawn its application saying high cost of spectrum has made the business unviable.

When contacted, a company spokesperson declined to comment.

Earlier in February this year, the Supreme Court had cancelled 122 permits, including that of Tata Teleservices in three circles.

Actress Sonakshi Sinha has denied that film `Joker` has led to any animosity between her and producer-director Farah Khan.

Gossip mills were abuzz that all was not well between Farah Khan-Shirish Kunder and Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha, the lead actors of `Joker`.

Though Sonakshi had promoted the film, Akshay was conspicuously absent from the promotions of `Joker`.

Smoking Saudi parents may lose custody of their children after divorce in the kingdom, the world`s fourth largest cigarette importer, with the country`s courts considering smoking a determining factor in such cases.

Courts in the kingdom nation could side with non-smoking parents, to protect the child from the negative impact of passive smoking, the Arab News reported.

In July, a judge in the country ruled that women suffering from passive smoke, as a result of their husbands` smoking habits, could file for divorce.

24 children die of mysterious disease in Odisha district

With 24 children dying of a mysterious disease during last two months in Odisha`s Malkangiri district, the government has launched a drive to create health awareness and conduct medical examination in the tribal-dominated district.

“We have collected blood, water and mosquito samples in the affected areas to ascertain the reason behind the death and augmented the drive to create health awareness among the people”, chief district medical officer (CDMO), Sashibhushan Panda said.

Rajasthan distributes free generic drugs worth Rs 300 cr in a year

The Rajasthan government has provided free generic medicines worth Rs 300 crore to patients in government hospitals across the state under a flagship programme.

The Chief Minister`s free generic medicines scheme was launched on October 2 last year by CM Ashok Gehlot.

Under the scheme, 400 types of life saving and essential generic drugs and surgical items are being made available in all government hospitals and health centres.

Vigorous exercise can repair heart, says study

Regular and vigorous exercise can activate dormant stem cells in the heart, which heal the damage caused by a heart attack, says a new study.

The study by Liverpool John Moores University is the first to suggest that a simple exercise programme has an effect similar to that of the stem cells, when they are cajoled into producing new tissues through special shots.

Strenous exercises includes 30 minutes of running or cycling daily, enough to work up a sweat, the European Heart Journal reports.

Japanese scientists create ‘transparent’ car

Japanese scientists have created a “transparent” car akin to Bond’s Aston Martin Vanquish, which becomes invisible in “Die Another Day” on ice sheets.

Seemingly transparent from the inside, the car allows drivers to “see through” the rear bodywork and would also help prevent accidents.

The car would help drivers with parking, projecting a panoramic view of the area behind the car onto the rear seats, the Daily Mail reports.

Rahul Gandhi is number two: Congress

The Congress Monday said party general secretary Rahul Gandhi was “number two” after party president Sonia Gandhi but did not comment on his probable re-designation.

“He is number two… work is going on,” party spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury told reporters here at a press conference.

There has been speculation that Rahul Gandhi will assume a bigger role in the party over the next few days and get a new designation such as vice-president. A reshuffle in the All India Congress Committee could take place before Diwali Nov 13.

With a call to delink sports from politics, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said he had “full faith” that security arrangements would be in place during the upcoming India-Pakistan cricket matches.

The BJP on Monday expressed its ire over party leader Mahesh Jethmalani going to the media with his resignation from the national executive and hitting out at party president Nitin Gadkari, saying such an act damages the party and should have been avoided.

Girl dies after fall from train

A 13-year-old girl died after a man allegedly forced her to jump out of a train along with him between Ujiarpur and Najirganj railway stations in Bihar’s Samastipur district.

The man, identified as Upendra Kumar, pulled the hands of the 13-year-old girl and jumped out of the passenger train last night, Superintendent of Police Varun Kumar Sinha said.

The girl died on the spot, while Kumar sustained injuries, the SP said.

Kumar, said to be of dubious background, was not known to the victim, Sinha said.
