Dearness Allowance for RTC Employees

(Siasat News) Vice Chairman and Managing Director of A.P.S.R.T.C. issued orders releasing enhanced D.A. arrears to RTC employees from 01-07-2012 at the rate of 5.7% of their basic pay.

President of APSRTC Mazdoor Union, Mr. M. Nageshwara Rao and General Secretary, Mr. Syed Mahmood told that their union had represented to the authorities for granting the enhanced D.A. arrears to its employees. They thanked the authorities. It is expected that it would benefit 1,10,000, RTC employees which would cost and additional expenditure of Rs. 7.5 crore monthly.

Communal riots cases entrusted to S.I.T. – 35 arrested

(Siasat News) Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad declared that all the allegations leveled in connection with communal riots are false and said that Hyderabad City police is functioning in a completely impartial way for maintenance of peace in the city. 10-year-old suffered brain damage after thrashing by teacher

In a shocking case of corporal punishment, a 10-year-old girl suffered brain damage after she was trashed by her teacher for not doing her homework, her family claimed.

As per reports, the girl was beaten up and her head banged to a wall by her teacher in Karnataka’s Hassan district.

“Of all the children in the school, they gave extra homework to my child and threw her down. Her memory has been affected…we had to take her to NIMHANS…This is our only child…I want to save her,” said a teary-eyed Devaraj, the girl’s father.

‘T’ Congress MLAs Urge Azad Not To Change Kiran

Anna Hazare to announce coordination panel by Nov 10

Anna Hazare is likely to announce a coordination panel by Saturday to take his apolitical anti-corruption movement forward.

Hazare, who arrived here this afternoon, said he will hold a series of discussions with his associates in the next two days and visit a couple of places which have been shortlisted to house the movement’s office in Delhi.

The anti-graft crusader said he has decided to set up a coordination panel consisting of around a dozen associates.

Indian killed, another injured in Bahrain blasts

An Indian man was killed and another injured as five explosions rocked parts of Bahrain’s capital Manama Monday, also claiming the life of another Asian, as the country grappled with growing political and ethnic unrest.

The blasts, including one near the Indian embassy, were described by Bahrain’s Prime Minister as a “heinous” crime while the country’s top police official said they were “acts of terror”.

India’s ambassador to Bahrain Mohan Kumar confirmed to PTI that one of the victims was an Indian who died when he accidentally stepped on an explosive device.

President Pranab Mukherjee will embark on a two-day visit to Chhattisgarh on Tuesday during which he will inaugurate a new integrated terminal building of Swami Vivekananda Airport at Raipur besides attending other functions.

“The President will inaugurate the new Mantralaya Complex of Government of Chhattisgarh at Raipur and participate in the closing ceremony of the Rajyotsav Celebrations on November 6,” a Rashtrapati Bhavan release said yesterday.

Jena demands Naveen Patnaik’s resignation

Congress leader Srikant Jena Monday demanded the resignation of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for “collusion” in the mining scam in the state.

Talking to mediapersons here, Jena, a Congress leader from Odisha, said that imposition of Rs.58,000 crore penalty by the state government on mining operators showed that the scam had been taking place for the last 10 years.

Jena, who is union minister of state (independent charge), statistics and programme implementation, claimed that the loss to exchequer due to scam was “to the tune of Rs.4 lakh crore”.

No change in position on Kashmir: Pakistan

The Interior Ministry’s contention that Pakistan could learn from India’s handling of insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir Monday forced the Foreign Office to issue a statement that said Islamabad’s position on the Kashmir issue had not changed.

Responding to media reports regarding a statement submitted by the Interior Secretary in the Supreme Court, Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Khan said, “There is no change in the official stance of the government of Pakistan about Jammu and Kashmir.”

After a delay of over eight months, Saudi Arabia and India Monday agreed to discuss issues relating to the over two million Indian labourers working in the Gulf nation and also to sign agreements in this regard at a later date.

Artists’ group supports Karnad against Naipaul

Activist-artist group SAHMAT Monday came out in support of theatre personality Girish Karnad, who had called Nobel laureate writer V.S. Naipaul “anti-Muslim”.

SAHMAT (Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust), in a statement released here, said: “We stand by Girish Karnad, actor and playwright, and extend our solidarity in condemning the Lifetime Achievement Award to V.S. Naipaul by the organisers of the festival.”

Karnad created a controversy at the Mumbai Literature Festival slamming Naipaul, who was given a lifetime achievement award at the event. The four-day LitFest opened Oct 31.
