Bipasha Basu: I don`t think I can get better than `Raaz 3`

Bipasha Basu admits she has given her best shot for Vikram Bhatt`s ‘Raaz 3’ and says she doubts if she can deliver a better performance than this.

“For me, in my filmography of work, this is the most challenging role I have done and I don`t think I can get better than this,” said Bipasha.

“Everyday was a struggle, I was emotionally drained, exhausted. I wanted to finish it soon because it was really disturbing me,” she added.

New tactic to disarm superbugs

A new tactic to disarm harmful bacteria may permit the body`s immune system to destroy them, rather than use drugs to kill them.

Christian Baron, professor of biochemistry at the University of Montreal, who devised the new tactic, said: “One could imagine harmful bacteria being like Darth Vader (central character in Star Wars saga), and the anti-virulence drug would take away his armour and lightsaber.”

Alzheimer`s affects women more rapidly than men

Men can stave off the effects of Alzheimer`s for longer than women, whose condition deteriorate faster when affected by the disease, a new study has found.

The study found that women suffering from Alzheimer`s deteriorate faster than men, even when both are apparently at the same stage of the disease.

The findings suggest that women sufferers show greater loss of their mental faculties than men, whose brains are better at coping with the ravages of the disease.

The ambitious project of building an international class stadium and cricket academy in the state capital has gained momentum with the appointment of three companies as consultant and transaction advisors for implementing the project.

The companies – Consortium of Innovest Advisory Services Pvt Ltd, Uttrakhand Infrastructure Development Co. Ltd (U-DeC) and Infrastructure Development Finance Company Ltd (IDFC) – have been roped in as consultant and transaction advisors for implementation of the project.

Actress Ameesha Patel is enjoying working with her “Gadar – Ek Prem Katha” co-star Sunny Deol after over a decade for “Bhaiyyaji Superhitt”, and says the audience will get to see a new side of them in the new movie.

“After (over) 10 years Sunny (Deol) and I comeback post ‘Gadar’ for ‘Bhaiyyaji Superhitt’ and the film is turning out phenomenal. It’s got Sunny and me in a completely new avatar,” Ameesha said here.

“It’s not like ‘Gadar Part 2’. It’s a comedy, it’s a masala film and it’s got Sunny in a double role… So that’s really exciting,” added the 37-year-old.

Kashmir locals help police in chasing militants

People in the old city areas of summer capital Srinagar helped police chase militants who had snatched a service rifle a day ago, said an official here Saturday.

K. Rajendra Kumar, additional director general (ADG) law and order, Saturday told IANS: “I have conveyed my appreciation to the people of old city who helped our boys catch and overpower two militants who were running away after snatching the service rifle of a policeman.”

The militants were chased in the old city area after they tried to escape in an autorickshaw, he said.

Bengal rapes: Mamata claims conspiracy over fabricated incidents

In the face of a string of incidents of alleged rapes in West Bengal, chief minister Mamata Banerjee today said that canards were being spread over ‘fabricated incidents’.

“I know some conspire to spread canards to denigrate women. I have always said that if an incident happens the police should take strong action. But please don’t insult Bengal motherhood with mere fabricated incidents,” Banerjee told a Kolkata Police function at the Netaji Indoor stadium here.

She, however, did not identify the forces behind such fabricated incidents.

BJP’s goodwill mission to North Eastern States

Erstwhile Team Anna will gherao the residences of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and BJP chief Nitin Gadkari here tomorrow on the coal block allocation issue even as prominent member Kiran Bedi voiced her disagreement over targeting the main opposition party.

The activists under the aegis of India Against Corruption (IAC) will also gherao the residences of Chief Ministers in Chhattisgarh (Raman Singh), Madhya Pradesh (Shivraj Singh Chouhan) and Odisha (Naveen Patnaik). Chhattisgarh and MP are BJP-ruled while BJD is in power in Odisha.

Kejriwal won’t be allowed to hold rally: Delhi Police

Delhi Police on Saturday wrote to erstwhile Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal and his organisation India Against Corruption (IAC), saying Parliament is in session and the prohibitory orders are in place. Protesting against political parties in the wake of coal block allocations, Kejriwal on Friday had announced gherao of the residences of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and BJP chief Nitin Gadkari on Sunday.

While, the police said that no permission has been given to Kejriwal and his supporters for Gherao, Team Anna said there is no change in plan.

Neighbour’s harassment led woman to suicide

(Siasat News): The on-going electricity crisis has become the cause of quarrels and disputes. In a similar incident, an aged woman committed suicide as she was constantly harassed by her neighbour for not providing water due to the cut in electricity supply.

This incident occurred in Narsingi police station limits under Cyberabad Police Commissionerate. The name of the deceased was Durga, 53, who consumed some unidentified pesticide.

Assam riots an ugly blot for country, lakhs of people in relief camps

Pakistan appoints new bowling coach

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the appointment of former fast bowler Muhammad Akram as the new bowling coach of the national team for one year.

“We have appointed Akram as our bowling coach for a period of one year after short-listing two candidates,” PCB official Intikhab Alam said Friday, reports Xinhua.

“Akram will join the squad in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the series against Australia that will start Aug 28,” said Alam.

Alam was part of the three-member committee that was assigned the task to search for a bowling coach.

Goa officer files complaint against RTI activist

In a bizarre incident, a senior civic officer has filed a police complaint against a Right to Information (RTI) activist claiming that the latter has been “paralysing” his office with RTI applications.

In a complaint filed with the Mapusa police station, Hanumant Toraskar, chief officer of the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC), Friday said Deepak Gadekar had been filing RTIs with the council, “even though he is not a resident of the town”.

Mapusa is located approximately 15 km north of Panaji.

“Many a times he is found paralysing this office by way of RTI,” Toraskar’s complaint reads.
