Jagipet Muslims donate Rs,40,000 in Assam Relif Fund

Giving proof of their firm faith in Islam, the Muslims of Jagipeth donated Rs 40,000 in Assam Relif Funf. They expressed their sympathies to the victims of the brutal killings in Assam. They had collected these donations on the occasion of Ediul Fitr.

A delegation led by the Secretary of the Eidgah, Mr. Mohammed Ismail, retired Headmaster, Mr.Hafiz Mahboob Ali and Mr. Arshad Mohiuddin, Staff Reporter of Siasat at Jogipet met Mr.Zahid Ali Khan, Editor, Siasat and handed over the collected amount to him. They donated garments also.

India will be able to forge durable relations with China only when it emerges as a stronger, if not an equal, military and economic power with a nuclear deterrent, says a new book.

Former foreign secretary Muchkund Dubey also says that India should not expect China to change its negative position on or seriously address the issues of concern to India.

To stand up to China, India must maintain and impart momentum to the dynamism acquired by its economy and strengthen its military power, Dubey says in “India’s Foreign Policy: Coping with the Changing World” (Pearson).

Hindus not migrating: Pakistani panel

Hindus are not migrating to India and giving up their Pakistani citizenship, said a committee that was formed to look into reports of mass migration of the minority community.

It recommended that those behind conversion of Hindu girls should be exposed regardless of their party affiliation. “It’s in no way migration. It’s not easy to get Indian citizenship. People are settling in countries like the UAE, Canada, UK or America but they have not given up their Pakistani citizenship. They have left for greener pastures,” Dawn Monday quoted a source saying.

US acts on its own: Pakistani daily

Drone strikes show that there has been no real change in the relations between the US and Pakistan, said a daily that criticised Washington for continuing “to act in its own interests”.

BJP sticks to ‘quit PM’ demand, parliament adjourned

Both houses of parliament were adjourned Monday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) persisted with its demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over coal block allocation.

The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 12 noon soon after they met as the BJP raised slogans demanding the prime minister’s resignation.

In the Rajya Sabha, members paid tributes to Chowdhary Ram Sevak, a former member, who has passed away. Chairman Hamid Ansari later complimented the Indian cricket team for winning the under-19 World Cup.

Pakistani PM faces SC on contempt order

Pakistan Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf Monday appeared in the Supreme Court to face a show-cause notice for failing to implement the order to write to the Swiss authorities to reopen corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.

Jostled by crowds, Ashraf waved before stepping inside the court building.

The apex court had issued the notice Aug 8.

The order said it was unfortunate that the prime minister had failed to implement the court’s directives.

Saudi Arabia’s financial situation is stable and is the best place for seeking jobs, according to a consumer confidence survey conducted by Bayt.com in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Thirty-eight percent of Saudis who participated in the survey said the present financial condition was good, while 33 percent remained neutral in their opinion about the Kingdom’s financial condition.

Kejriwal to protest in Bhopal on Tuesday

Alleging that there is no “Opposition” left in the country, activist Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said he will sit on a dharna outside the residence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Bhopal to protest the police action against his supporters there.

He alleged people were “beaten up very badly” in Bhopal while protesting against corruption by Chouhan.

“Is there any difference between UPA in Centre and BJP in MP? Same character, same arrogance of power, same corruption and same oppression,” he said in a statement.

Power cut for five hours – Public worried

Libyan interior minister resigns

Libyan Interior Minister Fawzi Abdelali resigned Sunday after being attacked for the performance of the security forces during a surge of violence, Al-Jazeera TV reported.

The country’s security forces were criticised for double car bombings that killed two people on the day Muslims celebrated the feast of Eid-ul-Fitr a week ago in Tripoli and attacks on several Muslim shrines in the past few days, Xinhua reported.

The criticism has come mainly from the General National Congress, which Sunday accused the interior ministry’s High Security Committee of being lax.

Israeli missile kills militant in Egypt

A motorcycle-borne militant was killed in Egypt by a missile launched from an Israeli plane, Xinhua reported.

The militant — identified as Ibrahim Nasser, a Bedouin — was hit while he was riding a motorbike in Rafah area, 15 km from the Egypt-Israel border.

The man was arrested a few days ago by the Egyptian army but was released later.

Officials told Xinhua Nasser was involved in killing some Israeli tourists near the border and was listed as terrorist in Israel.

Six killed in UP road accident

At least six people were killed when a speeding truck hit a tractor trolley in Etah town of Uttar Pradesh late Sunday, police said Monday.

The accident took place on the Agra-Bareilly national highway in Etah, 236 km from Lucknow, when more than 25 people were returning on a tractor from a cremation.

Six people died on the spot while 18 were seriously injured, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Etah Ajay Mohan Sharma told a news agency.

The tractor was heading to Rampur village when the accident occurred.

Police said the toll was likely to go up.

Pak PM to appear in SC today

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf will appear in the Supreme Court on Monday to face a contempt charge though a section of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party is opposed to any move that could be perceived as a climb-down in the standoff with the judiciary.

President Asif Ali Zardari, who is also the head of the PPP, decided that the premier would appear in court after a late night meeting with leaders of the ruling coalition, officials said.

Youth will get jobs under RYK: Minister

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Stamps and Registrations Thota Narasimham today said that as many as 24,000 unemployed youth would be provided jobs in East Godavari district in the current year under Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu programme.

3 arrested for impersonation in DSC exam

Fresh violence in lower Assam, one person killed, 2 injured

Fresh incidents of violence on Sunday rocked strife-torn Lower Assam districts leaving one person dead in Dhubri and two injured in Kokrajhar even as protestors blocked a national highway in the state.

Police said that a body with injury marks was found in Sukhanjora village under the Bogribari police station area in Dhubri district this morning, taking the toll in the violence since July 19 to 87.
