Slovenian accordionist sets new world record

Slovenian accordionist Zoran Zorko has set a new Guinness world record with a marathon accordion performances that lasted 35 hours and 32 minutes, Xinhua reported.

Zorko’s record was set during performances in Ljubljana’s Congress Square, the lakeside resort of Bled, and an accordion festival in the border town of Brezice between Thursday and Sunday.

Finland’s Anssi Laitinen held the previous record by continuously playing for 31 hours and 25 minutes in 2010.

Under Guinness rules, Zorko had to play the accordion continuously with a maximum of 30-second breaks between songs.

Girl suffocates to death in hole dug at beach

A 12-year-old Italian girl on vacation with her family in France died from suffocation in a hole she dug at a beach.

The girl’s death was confirmed by the Italian foreign ministry.

The victim suffocated in a hole she dug at the La Teste-de-Buch beach near Gironda.

Lifeguards alerted medics after the girl was spotted partially buried.

Witnesses said they saw a “happy girl” who spent hours digging the hole which would later take her life.

Dia Mirza loves classic Indian jewellery

Actress Dia Mirza reveals she has an inclination towards traditional Indian jewellery and happily sports it wherever and whichever way she can.

“If you notice the kind of jewellery I wear, it could be diamonds, uncut diamonds, it could be gold, platinum whatever. I am more attracted towards classic style. I really enjoy traditional jewellery,” the 30-year-old said here in an interview.

“So the older the piece looks, the more traditional the piece looks, the more excited it makes me,” she added.

Arjun Rampal no more part of ‘Zanjeer’ remake

Actor Arjun Rampal is no longer part of Apoorva Lakhia’s remake of “Zanjeer”. He was earlier slated to essay the part of Sher Khan, played by Pran in the 1973 original, but date hassles played spoilsport.

“Arjun Rampal is not doing the film. He had some date issues so he could not do the film,” Lakhia told IANS.

The role was reportedly first offered to Sanjay Dutt even before Arjun was approached for it. But Lakhia dismissed it as mere speculation.

SRK’s early morning shooting woes!

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is currently shooting in the Kashmir Valley for Yash Chopra’s next, was greeted with wet roads and dark clouds as he geared up to kickstart his early morning film schedule.

“Dark clouds… wet roads… too early for even life to feel alive… but I am on way to make movies. A cigarette and coffee as co-travellers,” Shah Rukh tweeted.

Shah Rukh is said to be playing the role of an army officer named Samar in the love-triangle movie, starring Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif.

Actress Soha Ali Khan wears what she likes, but says she used to follow high street fashion during her college days in Britain.

“I was sort of high street fashion concious when I was in college. I was in England and I wanted to fit in, rather than stand out,” said Soha.

“I would notice what people would wear and I tried to blend in. Being in a foreign country and foreign culture, there is a feeling to blend in. So I probably did that,” she added.

‘Roadies 4’ contestant Sahil Anand in SOTY

“MTV Roadies 4” contestant Sahil Anand has got his first big break. He will be seen in Karan Johar’s “Student Of The Year” (SOTY).

Sahil will be seen playing the character of a Jat boy in the movie, which releases Oct 19. Acting was always on the mind of the engineer-turned-model Sahil, who had a brush with showbiz in the fourth season reality show “MTV Roadies”.

He also been part of various TV commercials.

SOTY marks the Bollywood debut of model Siddharth Malhotra, director David Dhawan’s son Varun and Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter Alia.

Southern, Hindi film industry are same now: Priyadarshan

Priyadarshan has been dabbling with both Hindi and southern film industry. With the emergence of new talent, the filmmaker feels there is no difference between the two industries now.

“Actually speaking, there is no difference. When I came, I found a lot of difference between the two, but today the youngsters have changed it completely. Now both are the same,” Priyadarshan told IANS.

After making issue-based “Aakrosh” and action-thriller “Tezz”, Priyadarshan is set to return to the comic genre with his new film “Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal”.

Govt To Take Jet Aircraft On Lease

The State government has decided to take a special jet aircraft that could carry VIPs even in inclement weather on lease.

The government feels that the new aircraft would solve the problem of the timings of regular commercial services not being suitable for VVIP movements. Eight persons could travel by this aircraft non-stop for four hours.

Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh have purchased this aircraft. The State government has felt that it could minimize the expenditure by taking it on lease.

Rains Lash Capital – Traffic Disrupted

Many parts of the Capital experienced heavy rain this evening, as a result of which traffic came to a standstill at some places. Rains lashed Ameerpet, Koti, Dilsukhnagar, Hayathnagar, Himayathnagar and others areas.

Govt To Enter Liquor Retail Business From Sept 1

The State Government has decided to enter the liquor trade. To start with, 70 liquor shops would be opened by the Government in ten Districts, from September 1. Of these, 39 would be in Greater Hyderabad limits.

The Government was thinking of appointing the retired employees to run the liquor shops. Each shop would have three staff members. Notification was issued for taking shops on rent.

HMDA Asked To Stop Eviction Of Colonies

Dr Nageshwar, MLC, has demanded the HMDA authorities to immediately stop the illegal acquisition of lands and withdraw the notification issued in this direction.

Speaking at a round table organized by the Hyderabad Residents Forum here today, he criticized the attempts being made by HMDA to get the Balakrishna colony, Saikrishna colony, Venkatsai Colony and Nagarjuna colony vacated and acquire the lands in the name of public purposes and development. He demanded that this move should be stopped forthwith.

FEE: HC Adjourns Hearing On State Petition To Tuesday

The High Court today adjourned to Tuesday the hearing on State government’s petition challenging the orders of the Single Bench on the students Fee fixation.

The Single Bench had fixed the students fee at Rs 50,200 to be collected by those Engineering Colleges which have not submitted affidavits in the court. Aggrieved by the order, the State government has challenged the decision of the single bench judge.

Meanwhile, the managements of another five engineering colleges filed petitions in the High Court challenging the government’s decision on fee fixation. (NSS)

TRS Demands Cancellation Of EPC Policy In Work Tenders

TRS leader in Assembly Etela Rajender has alleged that the State government was depriving works to small contractors by introducing EPC policy in the contract system.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, the TRS leader charged the government with conspiring to give all tenders to big contractors and helping them to earn several crores of rupees through this EPC policy and starving the small contractors of works.
