Three girl students of the Amberpet area of the city have disappeared.
The girls Archana, Nikhita and Shravya are studying in a school in Amberpet. As the three have left their cycles in the school compound after the school closed for the day, watchman of the school has informed parents of one of the girls. They started enquiring with the children’s friends and did not find them anywhere.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the Assam chief secretary asking for a detailed report on the recent communal violence in the state.
An NHRC spokesman said it would also send a team to study the arrangements made by the government for the rehabilitation of affected people.
The team would submit a report in four weeks after visiting the violence-hit areas.
NHRC has asked Assam to submit its report within three weeks.
Women in the capital will enjoy free rides in public buses Thursday on Raksha Bandhan day, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit announced Wednesday.
“Women in Delhi would be able to travel for free in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses on Raksha Bandhan day so that women can easily reach their brothers’ place,” said Dikshit.
Women in Delhi will be allowed free rides in all DTC buses and the green low-floor buses till 5 p.m. Thursday.
On Raksha Bandhan, a sister ties a Rakhi (decorative thread) on the wrist of her brother, and he, in turn, gives her gifts and vows to protect her.
A young woman employee of Infosys died after allegedly jumping off a building at the IT giant’s office at Gachibowli here, police said today.
S Neelima (27) was found lying in a pool of blood by a security guard near the building at around 10.30 PM last night.
The guard immediately alerted the Infosys authorities who shifted her to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead, police said.
The US is continuing its efforts to make Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad resign, according to US State Department spokesperson Patrick Ventrell.
“The situation is grave, and we’re witnessing the regime’s continued assault on its own people,” said Ventrell during a daily press briefing Tuesday.

A young girl was shot at allegedly by her lover while she was on way to office in Bazargaon, about 30 kms from here, on Wednesday. The girl received injuries on her leg in the firing and was rushed to a nursing home.
The attack was reportedly a fallout of a love affair between the girl and the accused – Tijod Chandra alias Prince (25), a native of Delhi, police said.
After firing at the girl, the assailant fled the scene while efforts were on to nab him, police added.

Just two years after winning it, senior Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar was on Wednesday once again nominated for the ICC People’s Choice award.

Bollywood star Aamir Khan can now take pride in owning legendary actor Shammi Kapoor’s jacket, one among the six film memorabilia items he bid for, at the Osian’s Cinefan auction here. Aamir spent a total of Rs.238,000 at the event.
The auction, held here Tuesday, was held as part of the ongoing 12th Osian’s-Cinefan Film Festival. It turned out to be a success with sales of Rs.69.55 lakh and 86 percent lots sold.
Aamir and his wife Kiran Rao, who reportedly bid for six collector’s items valued at Rs.238,000, including late Shammi Kapoor’s jacket for Rs.88,000 on phone.
After a gap of about four years, P. Chidambaram on Wednesday returned as head of the Finance Ministry amid urgency to give a boost to the sagging economy.

The CBI has decided not to challenge the Supreme Court order, through a review petition, quashing the alleged disproportionate assets case against former UP Chief Minister Mayawati.
The agency has decided not to file any review petition after receiving legal opinion from its Directorate of Prosecution, which said the option would not be feasible, CBI sources said.
The Supreme Court on July 6 had quashed a nine-year-long disproportionate assets case against her and pulled up the CBI for exceeding its jurisdiction by lodging an FIR against her without any direction from it.
