Suspect of blast a local tailor: police

The man who was suspected to have carried one of the four bombs that exploded here tonight and was injured has been identified as a local tailor, the city’s Police Commissioner Gulab Rao Pol said.

The persons’s name is Patil who is a local resident and working as a tailor in Junglee Maharaj Road, he said.

Pol said that “from the low-intensity blasts, we think there is no involvement of terrorist group.

Minor repeatedly raped by teacher in Jaipur

An 11-year-old girl was repeatedly raped allegedly by her teacher leading to which she was hospitalised and was being treated for psychological trauma.

The accused teacher, who was arrested yesterday, was today produced before a local court where the magistrate remanded him in judicial custody.

The girl had not told her parents about the ordeal and was suffering psychological consequences for the last two months, police said.

She was hospitalised a fortnight ago.

Shahrukh Khan escapes with Rs 100 fine for smoking in public

Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, charged with smoking in public during an IPL match, today escaped with a paltry fine of Rs 100, less than the cost of his cigarette box, after having pleaded guilty before a court here.

Disposing of the matter, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate S C Godara, Jaipur City, allowed Khan to deposit
the fine through his counsel.

Khan, co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, was summoned by the court in May on a complaint that he was seen smoking on April 8 during a match between his team and Rajasthan Royals at Sawi Man Singh Stadium.

Jism 2 posters too ‘hot’ to handle; BMC orders removal

It looks like adult movie star Sunny Leone’s debut Bollywood film ‘Jism 2’ is too hot to handle for the Mumbai civic authorities as the Mayor has ordered removal of the film’s posters from BEST buses.

The action follows a complaint by NCP legislator Vidya Chavan that the posters were obscene.

“We received a complaint from Chavan, who alleged that the posters were obscene. I have asked BEST general manager to remove such posters from BEST buses,” Mayor Sunil Prabhu told PTI.

Woman suffers burns, three-year-old son charred to death

A woman suffered serious burns and her three-year-old son was charred to death after she allegedly set herself ablaze near here, police said today.

Police said when the woman’s husband, a lorry driver, returned home last night, he found smoke emanating and broke
open the door. Both his wife and son had suffered serious burns and the baby died today, police said

The condition of the woman, undergoing treatment at the Namakkal government hospital,is serious, sources added.

Explosions rock Lahore market, over 20 injured

More than 20 people were injured, five of them seriously, when two bombs went off in a market in this eastern Pakistani city today.

The explosions occurred at a fruit market in Badami Bagh area of Lahore at 9.40 pm, and several of the injured were
vendors, police and witnesses said.

According to witnesses and police officials, one explosive device was planted in a cart while another was hidden in a box of mangoes kept in a truck.

Several vendors were among the injured.

They were taken to Mayo Hospital, where officials said five of the injured were in a critical condition.

Two youths beaten up by mob

Two youths were beaten up by a mob at Haldibari near here tonight for riding their motorcylce in high speed and injuring people, police sources said.

The local people caught hold of the two youths riding their motorcycle in high speed and injuring people at
Haldibari about 5-7 km from here, the sources said.

The mob thrashed the two youths severely. Both the youths have been admitted to hospital, the sources added.

Plot to loot Pataliputra train foiled

Police tonight foiled an attempt to loot passengers of Pataliputra Express train by arresting six persons from the platform of Jamtara railway station.

They (six persons) were waiting to board the train when the district police and the personnel of Rail Police Force
overpowered them, Superintendent of Police Sunil Bhaskar told reporters here.

Two revolvers, eight bullets and some chemical substances were recovered from their possession, he added.

Bhiwandi: Family of seven face dowry harassment case

Seven members of a family, based in nearby Bhiwandi, are facing a criminal case for allegedly harassing a newly-married woman for dowry.

Sub-Inspector S B Khamkar of Nizampura police station said that the victim Tasnima Mukhtar Ansari, 25, was married
to Mukthar Sayyed Ansari, 28, and the couple lived in the Shanti Nagar locality.

It was a love marriage, and was registered in the court.

The complaint by Tasnima said that her in-laws started harassing her for dowry from January, demanding Rs 2 lakh for buying an auto rickshaw for the husband.

Shinde rules playing role of mediator with Team Anna

Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde tonight ruled out any mediation by him to resolve the situation caused by Team Anna’s anti-corruption agitation which entered the eighth day today.

How can I do that? I am among the 14 ministers against whom they (Team Anna) have levelled allegations,” Shinde old PTI when asked about the issue.

He said that as Maharashtra Chief Minister he had not gone to Hazare when he had launched a nine-day agitation.

Pune explosions: Maha Home Minister reviews security situation

Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil tonight reviewed security situation with senior officials, following the four low-intensity explosions in Pune.

The explosions came over two years after the bomb blast at German Bakery in Pune, which killed 17 people and injured 64 at Koregaon park on February 13, 2010.

Patil discussed the situation with top Home Department officials, sources said. An alert has been issued following
the explosions, which come a day ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festivities.

G Hanuma Vihari makes it to India squad for U-19 world cup

Hyderabad cricketer G Hanuma Vihari has been selected for the Indian team for the ICC under-19 World Cup, to be played in Australia from August 11.

BASF India profit after tax up by 36 pc in Q1 FY 13

BASF India Ltd today said its profit after tax jumped by 36 per cent at Rs 71.7 crore in the quarter ended June 30, 2012.

The company announced improved sales and earnings for the first quarter of FY 2012-13, a company statement said
here.

Total sales stood at Rs 1,288.8 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2012 as compared to Rs 1,013.8 crore in the
corresponding quarter of the previous year, an increase of 27 per cent.

The company’s profit before tax grew to Rs 106.3 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2012 as compared to Rs 78.1

Ban on SIMI upheld by Tribunal

A special tribunal today upheld the ban imposed by the Centre on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), which has links with Pakistan-based terrorist outfits including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its front, Indian Mujahideen.

Justice V K Shali of Delhi High Court, who heads the tribunal, submitted the report to the Home Ministry upholding the ban on SIMI.

The order came after the Home Ministry in February extended the ban on SIMI by two more years.

SIMI was declared outlawed in 2001 when it came to light that the outfit was involved in terrorist activities.

Town planning official caught red-handed while accepting bribe

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a town planning supervisor at municipal office after he was trapped while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 8,000 in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh.

Nampally Rajendra Prasad was caught red-handed by the ACB officials late last night at his office at Khammam when he demanded and accepted Rs 8,000 as bribe from the complainant for doing an official favour, an ACB release said here today.

Prasad was arrested and produced before the Second Additional Special Judge for ACB cases here.

The case is under investigation.

SC directs Govt to implement uniform fee structure for engg colleges

The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the State government to implement uniform fee structure for all the Engineering colleges in the State.

The Apex Court has ordered that there should not be difference between the fee of management and convenor quotas in Engineering colleges. The bench further directed the colleges and the State government that an average of both the fees, Rs 52,000 should be fixed as fee from this academic year. The court also ruled out any exemption for this year as pleaded by the State government as the fee reimbursement is becoming burdensome.

Pune blasts “alarm” for UPA govt: BJP
