Science exp special to stop for exhibition from Aug 3

The South Central Railway (SCR) today announced that the ‘Science Express-Biodiversity Special’ will stop for exhibition at four railway stations in Andhra Pradesh from August 3. 12-year-old girl raped by neighbour

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Thakurganj areas in Lucknow, police said on Wednesday.

The girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour Raju in Thakurganj area on Tuesday.

In other incident in Nigohan, a woman was raped by a man identified as Vipin after he tied her brother with a pole and thrashed her mother, they said.

The police have registered FIRs in both the cases.

The police have declared a red alert at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airprot at Shamshabad in the wake of intelligence reports on the possible terror attacks on international airports on August 15 being the independence day. NIA teams rush to Pune

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) teams have been rushed from New Delhi and Mumbai to Pune after five low-intensity blast shook the city this evening, injuring one person, Home Ministry officials said. The officials said the explosion prima facie did not seem to be a terrorist attack. A sixth bomb was defused by the Anti-Terror squad. The National Security Guards (NSG) have also been alerted following the blasts. The explosions took place on the city’s busy Junglee Maharaj Road. The blasts took place within a radius of one kilometre.

4 killed as ambulance hit lorry in AP dist

Four people were killed on the spot when an ambulance in which they were travelling dashed against a road side parked lorry on Itikalapadu National Highway in Mahaboobnagar district tonight. Judicial custody of Jagan till August 14

A CBI court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, and other accused till August 14 in separate case.

The remand was extended by the court after it expired today — in the disproportionate assets case against Jagan, in illegal mining case against Reddy, and in APIIC-Emaar land deal case — through video-conference. Only the suspended IAS officer Yerra Srilakshmi, an accused in mining scam, appeared before the court.

26/11 evidence of no use to Pak, India told

Despite best efforts from the Indian establishment, the mission to seek justice for 26/11 Mumbai attacks appear to be headed for nowhere due to Pakistan’s belligerent stand.

As per a media report, Wednesday, the Pakistan government has formally informed India that evidence provided by New Delhi in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks case is not admissible in a Pakistani court as defence lawyers were not allowed to cross-examine Indian officials.

Driving training for Jammu and Kashmir youths

The army is giving training in vehicle driving to the unemployed youth of remote mountainous areas in Rajouri and Reasi districts of Jammu and Kashmir under ‘Operation Sadbhavna’ (goodwill).

“A driving training exercise is being organised for the unemployed youths of Talwara, Reasi and areas of Rajouri district under Operation Sadbhavna (goodwill). It will enable them to get jobs or start self-employment ventures,” an army spokesman said.

The group consists of 25 youths who are given hands-on practical training with a good student-teacher ratio.

Alert sounded in Uttar Pradesh,Maharastra

An alert was sounded across Uttar Pradesh following four low-intensity explosions in Pune in Mahararashtra Wednesday, police said, as they stepped up security in major cities including Lucknow, Varanasi and Kanpur.

The alert was ordered at the instructions of Director General of Police A.C. Sharma, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Badri Prasad Singh told IANS.

Heavy checking was being conducted at public place including malls, cinema halls, shopping complexes, markets, hotels and restaurants, police officials said.

India will soon get a film commission offering single window clearances to filmmakers to shoot in this country, Nirupama Kotru, director (Films) in the information and broadcasting ministry, said Wednesday.

High Alert in Hyderabad after Pune Serial Blast

Police on Wednesday night went on high alert in Hyderabad, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and other major towns in Andhra Pradesh following low density blasts in Pune.

Ashraf asks authorities to work to build a temple in Islamabad

Pakistan Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf today directed authorities to identify a location for building a temple for Hindus living in the capital.

Ashraf issued the directive to the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority following a request from Ramesh Lal, a Hindu parliamentarian of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party.

Ramesh Lal requested the premier to allocate land for constructing a mandir for the Hindu community of Islamabad.

“The Prime Minister directed the Chairman of CDA to identify an appropriate place for a mandir,” said a statement
from the premier’s office.

WHO closes office in Karachi

The World Health Organization (WHO) has closed its office in Pakistan’s Karachi city in the wake of recent attacks on UN doctors there.

WHO’s polio eradication campaign head Elias Durry, however, stressed Wednesday that the agency has not suspended its activities in the city, Xinhua quoted Express TV as saying.

After the attacks on UN staff last month, polio eradication activities in Karachi have been badly hit.

Four NATO soldiers die in Afghan blasts

Four NATO soldiers died in bomb attacks in Afghanistan Wednesday, the military alliance said.

The explosions took place in southern and eastern Afghanistan. NATO has not revealed the nationalities of the victims, Xinhua reported.

The casualties bring to 270 the number of foreign soldiers killed in Afghanistan in 2012.

US airport evacuated after bomb threat

The San Antonio International Airport in the US was evacuated Wednesday after officials received a bomb threat, a media report said.

“The caller reported three vehicles in the lower level of the short-term parking garage contained explosives,” the USA Today quoted the San Antonio TV station KSAT as saying.

Bomb-sniffing dogs checking out the vehicles reacted as though there could be explosives each of the three vehicles, San Antonio police chief William McManus said.

Exits and entrances to the airport have been blocked.

US manufacturing sector contracts in July

The US manufacturing sector shrank for the second consecutive month in July, a survey showed Wednesday.

The US Institute of Supply Management (ISM) manufacturing index, also known as the purchasing managers index (PMI), stood at 49.8 percent in July, slightly higher than the estimate of 49.7 percent in June, Xinhua reported.

A reading above 50 percent indicates that the manufacturing sector is generally expanding, while a reading below that ratio indicates contraction.
