Man bombs sister-in-law’s home, burns son’s house, kills self

A Russian fought with his wife out of jealousy and she left him to live with their elder son. The man, demanding his wife’s return, hurled a grenade into his sister-in-law’s yard, set fire to his younger son’s house, and then committed suicide, RIA Novosti reported.

The 61-year-old man lived in Armavir in southwestern region of Krasnodar.

On Thursday, the man, whose name was not released, arrived at his sister-in-law’s to demand that his wife return home.

Annan, who assumed his post in February and authored a six-point peace plan aimed at ending the Syrian conflict, announced Thursday that he would quit by the end of the month citing the deadlock at the UN Security Council over ways to resolve the current political crisis in the country.

Team Anna to end fast in V.K. Singh’s presence

Team Anna leaders, including Anna Hazare, will end their fast Friday evening with former army chief V.K. Singh offering them coconut water or lemon juice.

This was announced by Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan.

V.K. Singh, who exposed corruption in the army, will arrive at Jantar Mantar at 4 p.m. and offer water to the fasting members shortly after that, Bhushan said.

Arvind Kejriwal, Gopal Rai and Manish Sisodia began their fast July 25 and were joined by Hazare July 29. They will end their fast Friday at 5 p.m.

IAS officer’s suicide stuns colleagues in UP

Researchers from the University of Toronto are growing centimetres of artificial skin at a time, a huge step-up from previous techniques which could grow just microns at a time, the Daily Mail reported.

The researchers are able to grow sheets of skin by placing individual cells into a gel-like sheet, and they can even be grown into specific shapes – such as letters.

Unwilling to take chances with bicycles after the recent explosions in Pune and the 2008 blasts in this Rajasthan capital, police have asked all bicycle shop owners here to take identification proof from purchasers and send the document to law enforcement agencies.

Jaipur Police Commissioner BL Soni issued the orders to shop owners on Thursday. Bicycles were used to plant the explosives in Pune, where one person was injured, as in the Jaipur serial blasts of May 13, 2008, in which 71 people were killed.

Three killed, one injured in road accident

Three persons were killed on the spot when their autorickshaw was knocked down by a tempo at the busy Vasant Vihar circle in Thane city this morning, police said.

The deceased included two women passengers.

The mishap occurred at around 10 AM when a speeding tempo hit the autorickshaw at a turning point in Vasant Vihar area of Thane.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the head of one of the woman was chopped off, police said.

Court allows Sajjan Kumar’s plea in 1984 riots case

The Delhi High Court on Friday allowed Congress leader Sajjan Kumar’s plea to use the statements of a victim of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots to defend himself.

Justice Pratibha Rani set aside the June 2 trial court order that dismissed Sajjan Kumar’s plea and asked all parties to appear before the trial court on August 6.

Sajjan Kumar is accused of instigating a mob to attack and kill Sikhs after the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984.
