Real estate, election campaigns routing black money: Report

Money generated through illegal means is laundered through various means, including real estate and election campaigns, in India, a report of the US State Department has said.

“High-level corruption both generates and conceals criminal proceeds. Illicit funds are often laundered through real estate, educational programs, charities, and election campaigns. Companies use trade-based money laundering to evade capital controls,” the International Narcotics Control Strategy Report 2012 has said.

Haryana announces one crore for Saina Nehwal

Ace badminton player Saina Nehwal will get a reward of Rs. 1 crore from the Haryana government for winning a bronze medal for the country in women’s badminton at the 2012 London Olympics.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda congratulated Saina Nehwal Saturday for winning the bronze medal. He said that she had made the country and Haryana proud.

Though Saina lives in Hyderabad, she has got the reward under the category of sportspersons from Haryana since her family hails from Haryana.

Bai Reddy begins fast for separate Rayalaseema

(Siasat News)Founder of Rayalaseema Parirakhshana Samithi and TDP leader Mr. Bai Reddy Raja-sekhara Reddy started his fast in Kurnool. His fast began in front of Krishnadevarayulu statue in Kurnool yesterday.

Before starting the fast, Mr. Reddy said that the purpose of his fast is to protect the interests of the drought-hit area of Rayalaseema. He told that he is against the bifurcation of the State. He asked the political parties to make their stand clear on the issue of division of the state.

Governor’s suggestion to abandon Free Education condemned by TDP leader Devender Goud

(Siasat News)Governor of A.P Mr. E.S.L Narasimhan has suggested abandoning free education system in the state. Mr. T. Devender Goud senior TDP leader criticized Governor’s idea and said that it depicts his anti-poor mentality.

In fact, Governor is not able to tolerate the students belonging to S.C’s, S.T’s, B.C’s and Minorities who are receiving free education with the help of fees reimbursement scheme and the students belonging to elites and higher classes are deprived of this facility.

Three minor girls drowned in Bihar

Three minor girls were drowned while bathing in a pond at Dhekahabala tola in Bihar’s East Champaran district on Saturday, police said.

Pinki, Anjali Kumari and Saria Kumari were drowned while bathing, sources said.

The bodies were fished out from the pond and sent to a government hospital for postmortem.

According to the report received, Muslim brothers, sisters and children in relief camps are waiting for relief. There is a need to help them in their rehabilitation also.

Many organizations from all over India are performing relief work but it is proving insufficient.

Rich people of the community are requested to come forward and donate generously for the victims of Assam.

Doctor warns heart patients of frequent aspirin use

While there is a raging debate on the role of aspirin in preventing heart attacks, a leading cardiologist has cautioned against people starting the pill therapy on their own.

“The best way to know if you are a candidate for aspirin therapy is to ask your doctor. You should not start aspirin on your own,” says Prof Upendra Kaul, Executive Director and Dean, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre.

Earlier studies had established aspirin`s efficacy as an anti-clotting agent leading to its widespread use as a preventive treatment for heart attacks.

Al Qaeda suicide bomber kills 20 in Yemen

At least 20 people were killed and many injured when an al Qaeda suicide bomber blew himself up at a gathering of pro-government tribesmen in Yemen’s southern province of Abyan, Xinhua reported on Sunday.

The bomber detonated his explosives belt at a funeral in Jaar town in Abyan late Saturday, an official said.

Abdulatif al-Saeed, the leader of the tribal fighters who had supported government troops in the fight against al Qaeda over the past few months, was killed in the bombing.

Shyam Wardhane new Nagpur civic chief

IAS officer Shyam Wardhane on Friday took over the reins of Nagpur Municipal Corporation from his predecessor Sanjeev Jaiswal.

Mr Wardhane, who hails from the Orange City itself, was district collector of Sangli before being transferred to Nagpur. He took the charge from district collector Saurabh Rao who was holding the additional responsibility after municipal commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal was shifted to Aurangabad.

Constable crushed under speeding bus

A constable was killed by a speeding bus on the busy Ashok Rajppath in Patna today, police sources said.

The bus hit the constable as he was crossing the road.

Local people stopped it and set fire to it with the driver fleeing, the sources said.

The constable was identified as 50-year-old Janardan Sharma.

150,000 people have iftar at UAE mosque

Around 150,000 people had iftar at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the largest mosque in the UAE, in the second week of the holy month of Ramadan.

The mosque was built in memory of late UAE president Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Around 20,000 iftar meals are given out daily at the mosque.

The iftar project launched at the mosque in 2004 has become a social and cultural forum that brings together people from across the country.

40 missing in Uttarakhand, rescue efforts on

As many as 40 people, including 19 labourers at a project, are missing after flash floods and cloud bursts ravaged Uttarakhand. The government Sunday asked the ITBP, police and army for help.

Twelve people have already died in the calamity, said officials.

The government asked the army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and state police to search for the 19 labourers who went missing at a hydel project in Assi Ganga in Uttarkashi, about 180 km from here, late Saturday, officials said.

21 Taliban killed in Afghanistan

At least 21 Taliban militants have been killed in a series of countrywide operations led by Afghan police, the interior ministry said Sunday.

Police backed by army and NATO-led forces have the Taliban in Kapisa, Kandahar, Herat and Farah provinces since Saturday, Xinhua reported.

The ministry, however, did not say if there were any casualties among the security forces.

The Taliban did not make any comment.

Floods claim 22 lives in Nepal

At least 22 people were killed in different parts of Nepal over the past 48 hours due to the outbreak of cholera and flood.

Ten persons were killed as incessant rains battered the country triggering landslides and floods since Thursday.

Flood water inundated several houses leaving hundreds of families homeless. Four persons of a family died when landslide buried their house in Thulo Lumpek village in Gulmi district yesterday.

AI likely to resume key international routes by month-end

National flag carrier Air India, which was forced to scale down its international operations massively following the recent two-month strike by a section of pilots, will resume most of its international operations by the end of the month.

“We will be ready to restart our full international operations by the end of August. We will restore New York, Chicago and Paris flights by then…Also resume flights to Hong Kong and Shanghai,” an airline official said.

The airline will also add more services to the busy Southeast Asian regions by mid-August.

Andhra Pradesh braces for more power outages

Istanbul wedding reports are false: Sharapova

Reports Maria Sharapova is to wed Slovenian basketball star and fiance Sasha Vujacic in Istanbul this fall are “false rumors”, the Russian tennis star said Sunday.

A British newspaper reported last month that the sporting couple, who got engaged in 2010, would tie the knot in the Turkish city where Vujacic is based in November.

“Those are false rumors, always have been,” Sharapova said Sunday after losing her Olympic gold medal match to Serena Williams at Wimbledon.

When pressed whether the wedding is to take place in Istanbul, Sharapova replied: “Definitely not.”
