Gurudwara shooting: FBI rules out involvement of second person

Hours after releasing photo of “a person of interest” in the Wisconsin Gurudwara shooting incident, the FBI has ruled out involvement of the second suspect saying the shooting was carried out by the lone gunman Wade Michael Page.

The second person was interviewed by the FBI before being cleared by it.

“The unidentified subject has been located interviewed and does not appear to be connected with the yesterday’s shooting incident at Oak Creek,” a FBI spokesman told PTI yesterday.

Jaipal’s defence of gas diversion bureaucratic: LSP

Lok Satta Party President Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan today characterized Union Petroleum Minister S. Jaipal Reddy’s defence of gas allocation to Ratnagiri power plant at the expense of Andhra Pradesh as bureaucratic.

Addressing a media conference here, Dr.Narayan recalled that the Union Cabinet committee had decided in 2008 to allocate the available gas to fertilizer plants, domestic users and power plants in that order of priority. The committee, however, placed the Ratnagiri power plant on par with fertilizer plants for gas allocation.

Gas row: TDP requests PM to intervene

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today urged Prime Minister Dr Manohmohan Singh to intervene in the gas diversion row and rescind the order of the Union Ministry. In letter to the Prime Minister, TDP chief and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu alleged the decision of the Ministry of power to supply additional gas to Ratnagiri Plant in Maharashtra causing further reduction in gas availability to Andhra Pradesh was gross violation of the federal spirit and promotion of regional imbalance in meeting the power demands among the regions.

Vettori to miss India tour

New Zealand key southpaw spinner, Daniel Vettori, will miss the upcoming tour of India due to groin strain, according to reliable sources. Vettori would have been an asset in the bowling department to his team since the tracks in India are spinner-friendly. Vettori had missed the second Test against the West Indies last week due to groin injury. The Kiwi skipper, Ross Taylor, said Vettori is unlikely to visit India due to groin strain. Tarun Nathula, who was a member of the New Zealand squad in the Caribbean recently, is likely to replace Vettori.

SCs among KSEZ displaced seek better facilities

Member of the Sub-Committee of the National Commission on SC’s Welfare V Raghavendra Rao today said that SCs among the Kakinada SEZ displaced residing in Moolapet colony were facing hardships owing to failure of the SEZ promoters in providing adequate compensation and employment.

Speaking to media persons after visiting the KSEZ displaced colony and interacting with the SCs there, he said the SEZ promoters had provided training to 40 people among the SCs but not even a single person was provided employment till now.

The Sikh Community in Andhra Pradesh today strongly condemned the shooting at a Gurudwara at Wisconsin in USA in which six innocent Sikh were killed. Over 200 to 300 Sikh members under the banner of Andhra Pradesh Sikh Welfare Association gathered in front of the US Consulate office here and staged a peaceful demonstration holding up placards. A delegation led by S Iqbal Singh, S Harbans Singh and S Pritam Singh submitted a memorandum to Consulate officials condemning the killing and denounced the violence against the Sikh community.

Boy dies, 5 missing in landslip in Kerala

A boy was killed and five people were missing in landslips triggered by torrential rain in two villages in Kozhikode district of Kerala today. Police said body of a three-year old boy, washed away in flood waters, was recovered by rescue team at Pullurampara in the district this evening. Name of the boy, son of Thundath Biju, was yet to be ascertained, they said. Efforts were on to rescue four other members of his family, who were missing, they said. Search was also on to locate another person, Gopal, who was washed away in the flood waters at Manjuvayal in the district.

Sikh organisations today gheraoed the local visa application collection centre of the US Embassy situated near Nam Dev Chowk to protest against the killing of six Sikh devotees and injuring more than 30 others at the Oak Creek Sikh Temple, south of Winconsins’ biggest city Milwauke in the US. Police use force to disperse clashing Daudi Bohra groups

Police today used mild force to disperse two groups of Daudi Bohra community which confronted each other outside a mosque in the Bohrawadi locality here. According to a police spokesman, both the groups confronted over some trivial issue related to performing ‘namaz’ and they resorted to stone throwing at each other. Some stones also hit the police which intervened to control the situation. Two injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Though, police, later, used batons to disperse the mob, the spokesman added. ‘Reservation under RTE Act aimed at social inclusion’

Batting for the Right to Education (RTE), a top government official Monday said the 25 percent reservation of seats in schools for the economically deprived was a move to enhance social inclusion in educational institutions.

“It is unfortunate to find that the debate on the RTE has been reduced to 25 percent reservation of seats. The rationale behind such a provision is social inclusion. Every school should have a heterogeneous background of children,” Vikram Sahay, director for RTE, in the human resource development ministry, said here.

Childbirth seems to invest women with a sharper, improved memory. Mothers performed better in tests regarding the ability to perceive and remember information about their surroundings compared with those who didn’t have children.

Melissa Santiago from Carlos Albizu University in Miami, US, who led the study, said the findings negate the belief that women experience a decline in memory and cognitive function after they have children. “You don’t have to feel that because you have kids, your memory isn’t the same,” she said.

Kiril Maritchov Jr.’s rejection in May was “punishment” for a scene written by the married father of two in his 2005 book “The Fugitive’s Road”.

Pay salaries before Eid-ul-Fitr, says UAE PM

UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, in his capacity as the ruler of Dubai, has ordered the payment of salaries of all employees in Dubai ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Abdul Rahman Al Saleh, director general of the Dubai Finance Department, said payments will be transferred to the banks by next Monday so that the employees can meet the needs of their families for Eid.

Maoists blow up CRPF vehicle, kill trooper in Chhattisgarh

Maoist guerrillas blew up an anti-landmine vehicle in a forested stretch in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region, killing a trooper of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on the spot and injuring five others, police officials said.

“It was a powerful IED blast near Marande village (in Dantewada), which tossed up the anti-landmine vehicle in which six CRPF men of the 111 Battalion were on a patrol duty,” Dantewada’s Superintendent of Police Narendra Khare told IANS over phone.
