Former State Youth Congress president PJR Sudhakar Babu has alleged that seven ministers in the Kiran Kumar Reddy government were coverts of YSRCP Chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

Sudhakar Babu lodged an oral complaint with APCC Chief Botcha Satyanarayana on Monday at Gandhi Bhavan.
Speaking to the media later, Sudhakar Babu said that he appealed both PCC Chief and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to initiate action against those seven ministers. He made it clear that he will announce his action plan if the PCC Chief and Chief Minister failed to initiate action against seven ministers.

The last rites of noted journalist Syed Majeed-ul-Hasan, 60, will be performed in the city on Tuesday. Hasan died at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Thursday (August 2) following cardiac arrest, family sources said.

Assad losing his grip on power: White House

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is losing his grip on power, the White House said on Tuesday, amidst confirmed reports of the defection of his Prime Minister Riyad Hijab.

“As we’ve said repeatedly, as we’ve seen more and more high-level defections, this is a sign that Assad’s grip on power is loosening. If he cannot maintain cohesion within his own inner circle, it reflects on his inability to maintain any following among the Syrian people that isn’t brought about at the point of a gun,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters.

‘External elements’ behind Assam violence: Govt

The Centre on Monday said “external elements” were behind the ethnic clashes between Bodos and minorities in Assam and vowed to hunt down those responsible for it.

Assam government is also likely to hand over the probe into the recent violence to CBI.

“The situation is under control as of now. There could be some external elements behind the violence,” Union Home Secretary R K Singh told reporters here but did not specify who were these “external elements”.

Two CRPF commandos killed in IED blast

Two CRPF commandos were killed in an IED blast triggered by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district early Tuesday.

The attack comes just a day after Maoists blew off an anti-landmine vehicle killing a CRPF trooper in the same district.

A Tata-407 vehicle was blown up killing two CoBRA commandos on the spot, senior officials said. The commandos, identified as constable KP Singh and Mukul Burman, were carrying rations for a CRPF camp nearby when the blast occurred.

3 killed in fresh violence in Kokrajhar

At least three more persons were killed while two others injured as fresh violence erupted in strife-torn Kokrajhar district, taking the death toll in the violence to 64.

“The Bodo miscreants indiscriminately fired in Ranibuli village under Kokrajhar police station late last night killing three persons and seriously injuring two others,” Assam IGP (Law and Order) LR Bishnoi told PTI in Guwahati.

The two injured were rushed to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. The official death toll in the ongoing clashes, which began last month, is now 64.

California recognises India’s Independence day

In an unprecedented move the California State Assembly has passed a Resolution, recognising August 15th as India’s Independence Day and urged all Californians to celebrate the diversity of cultures.

The resolution moved by Bob Wieckowski, a popular assmebly member from the Bay area, was supported by a number of other members.

Speaking in support of the resolution, the Assembly Speaker, John Perez, praised India as the largest functioning democracy and a really important country in the world.

Ahmadinejad invited to Saudi summit over Syria

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will take part in a meeting of the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Saudi Arabia, which will focus on the Syrian conflict, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported Monday.

Mohammad Reza Forqani, head of the international affairs in Ahmadinejad’s administration, said the president was invited by the Saudi king.

Volcano spews ash on New Zealand’s North Island

A volcano has erupted in New Zealand and planes have been warned of significant ash release.

Volcanic ash fell in areas near Mount Tongariro in central North Island late tonight. GNS Science issued a red aviation code, the highest level, for planes in the region. The Ministry of Civil Defense and Emergency Management advised residents of five nearby communities to stay indoors and to protect their eyes, mouth and nose if they were caught in volcanic ash.

Mount Tongariro is one of three volcanos inside Tongariro National Park. Tonight’s eruption was the mountain’s first in decades.

UPA nominee Hamid Ansari appears set to get a second term as Vice President by emerging a clear winner against NDA’s Jaswant Singh in a direct contest for the post on Tuesday.

The election for the post of Vice President has seen UPA and its allies, the Left as also other parties supporting it from outside backing the incumbent.

A total of 788 Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs are eligible to vote in the poll to elect the 14th Vice President.

Two BSF soldiers injured in Pakistani firing

Two Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers were seriously injured in firing from the Pakistani side of the International Border and Line of Control near here Monday night, officials said.

A BSF official said Pakistani troops fired heavily at Pansar post in Hiranagar sector on the International Border, about 90 km from here.

He said two soldiers who were patrolling the area were injured in the firing.

“The fire was heavy and appeared to target the patrol party,” the official said.

Syrian troops kill 25 insurgents in Aleppo

The Syrian troops killed 25 insurgents who attacked a power plant in Aleppo province, Xinhua reported.

According to the state TV, the assailants attacked the station with various weapons and explosives. The Syrian troops responded and killed 25 and injured some others.

The troops have achieved big scores in fighting the armed groups in Aleppo, which emerged as a battleground between the armed rebels and government troops, the report added.

Main battle against terror ends: Iraqi PM

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has said that his country’s main battle with terrorism has ended despite some cells of terrorists still being active, Xinhua reported.

“The battle with terrorism has ended and the remaining are cells here and there looking for an opportunity or a gap,” said Maliki during a ceremony to reward some officers and troops who thwarted attacks by insurgents on Iraqi prisons recently.

Russia, India joint anti-terrorism drills begin Tuesday

Russia and India will Tuesday hold an official opening of joint INDRA-2012 anti-terrorism military exercises in the Siberian republic of Buryatia, a spokesperson for Russia’s Eastern Military District said.

Both countries have conducted five INDRA-series joint ground and naval exercises since 2003. The last such exercise was held in India in October 2010.

“An official opening of the INDRA-2012 will be held on August 7 at the Burduny training range,” said Lt. Col. Igor Muginov.

UN chief hails Sudan, South Sudan oil deal

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the deal reached by the governments of Sudan and South Sudan overn oil and financial arrangements, Xinhua reported.

The oil dispute between Sudan and South Sudan began five months after South Sudan separated from Sudan last July, as Sudan decided to deduct its oil fees in arrears on the part of South Sudan in the form of crude oil.

While most of the oil wells are located in South Sudan, the pipelines and ports to export the oil are in Sudan.

2,000-year-old Roman ship found

The remains of a 2,000-year-old Roman merchant ship has been found in Italy.

The food-transport vessel was found by submarine police off the shore of Varazze town, 30 km from Genoa, said Lt. Col. Francesco Schilardi, of the Carabinieri military police.

The ship was located following tips from fishermen who since the 1930s had caught vases in their nets, said Schilardi.

The vases were reportedly used to store food in the ship.

Tests determined the vases contained pickled fish, wine and oil that were traded in Spain for other goods.

7 people washed away along with car and bridge

Seven people were washed away in Mundu river along with a car and Vazhayil bridge at Vallithode St Anapanthi near Iritty following a landslip due to rains near iritty in Kannur district today. According to Iritty police, the marooned people were rescued by some locals and a police team. The incessant rains that lashed Iritty, Aralam and Karikottakiri areas damaged several houses and agricultural crops in the areas.
