Fire officer caught taking Rs 50,000 bribe

A fire officer was caught red handed taking Rs 50,000 in bribe from a hotel owner in Rani Bagh area for giving security clearance, CBI said today.

Delhi Fire Service officer Rajmal Khokar posted in Rohini had allegedly demanded Rs 1.50 lakh from the owner of Royal
Mirage hotel in Rani Bagh area.

After getting complaint in this regard, CBI officials had laid down a trap to nab the officer.

When Khokar was allegedly accepting Rs 50,000 as instalment of the bribe from the manager, he was caught by the
CBI team, officials in the agency said.

Policeman suspended for helping a fake cop

Cyberabad Police here today suspended a Sub-Inspector on charges of aiding a pseudo policeman.

Hayathnagar police sub inspector C Srinu was placed under suspension and further enquiry was ordered against him
by Cyberabad Police Commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao.

The action came following allegations that the accused maintained “unofficial relations” and “favoured” one Srinivasa
Rao, who allegedly posed as a police inspector.

Delhi govt asks HC to set up 9 fasttrack courts for rape cases

The Delhi government has urged the High Court here to set up nine designated fast track courts, one each in nine districts, to ensure expeditious justice to the rape victims.

This was informed by Social Justice and Women and Child Development Minister Kiran Walia here today who has written a letter to Chief Justice of Delhi High Court in this regard.

Speaking at function, she said the government has also appointed 17 Women Protection Officers to help the women
suffering from domestic violence.

US national doctor held for alleged rape, say police

A 38-year-old Indian origin US national, who claimed to be an MBBS doctor, has been arrested for allegedly raping a married woman, who is also an Indian origin American national, in Mumbai, police said today.

According to police, the accused Vikram Dravid, who studied in the USA and completed his medical course, had befriended the married woman in 2001.

Woman police Sub Inspector caught accepting bribe,arrested

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today caught red-handed a woman police sub-inspector when she allegedly demanded and was accepting Rs 15,000 bribe in connection with a criminal case.

On Tuesday, ACB sleuths took SI Lalitha into their custody near Police Control Room. The ACB officials conducted raids near Police Control Room.

Jagan’s bail petition to come up before SC tommorror

The bail petition of YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy would come up for hearing before the Supreme Court on August 9.

Jagan filed the petition in the Apex Court after the AP high court rejected his petition. This petition is slated for hearing on August 9.

Mopidevi’s petition posted to Aug. 10. The CBI court has posted the bail petition of former minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana arrested in connection with the Jagan assets case to August 10 for further hearing. The CBI court has earlier admitted his bail petition.

Bride killed on way to her wedding

A Saudi girl on the way to her wedding was killed after the car driven by her father crashed into a power pole in the Gulf Kingdom.

Police said the 25-year-old bride died on her way to hospital while her father suffered from serious injuries and was admitted to the intensive care unit at the hospital in the southwestern province of Najran close to the border with Yemen.

Couple ‘punish’ innocent teen girl with rape

A drug-dealing woman and her boyfriend ‘punished’ a teenage girl by raping her after they mistakenly thought she had stolen from them.

Elizabeth Seagrove and Matthew Costello, now jailed for more than 20 years, wanted to punish the girl thinking she stole £100 from them.

They drove the girl in the middle of the night for more than an hour before taking her to a deserted place.

Seagrove, 40, then ordered her to strip and held her hair as she instructed Costello to violate the 18-year-old. They also gave her drugs to reduce the pain.

Godman’s disciple in rape charge

A 38-year-old US citizen filed a complaint against a US citizen of Indian origin for allegedly raping her in America as well as in Mumbai.

The victim, a software engineer by profession claimed to have been enticed into a physical relationship by the disciple of godman Swami Nithyanand.

Nithyanand himself has been rape tainted and embroiled in a similar controversy in March 2010.

According to DNA, the victim, registered a case for rape and cheating against Vikram Dravid, 38.

The victim had settled in the US after her marriage in 1994.

Hc Admits Srilakshmi’s Bail Petition

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has admitted the bail petition of former senior IAS officer Srilakshmi, who was arrested in the OMC mining case and was lodged in the Chanchalguda jail as an undertrial prisoner.
After admission, the court posted the case to August 13 for further hearing.

Srilakshmi tried for bail in the CBI court and High Court earlier. When her petitions were rejected, she approached the Supreme Court, which also rejected her plea. However, the Apex Court directed Srilakshmi to go back and seek bail in the lower courts.

NATO employee in Germany held for spying

A civilian employee at a NATO air base in Germany has been arrested on charges of illegally gathering secret information.

The German Prosecutor General’s Office said Tuesday the 60-year-old employee of the Ramstein air base is believed to have illegally obtained and copied classified information to his computer.

Prosecutors believe he intended to hand the information to a third party.

The report did not say who the third party might have been.

NDA to move adjournment motion in LS on Assam violence

NDA today said it will move an adjournment motion in Lok Sabha and suspension of Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha to discuss the ethnic violence in Kokrajhar, Assam.

“NDA has decided that we will not let Parliament function tomorrow unless the issue of ethnic violence in Assam is taken up for discussion,” BJP President Nitin Gadkari said at a programme here.

Infectious diseases killed nearly 1,700 Chinese in July

Infectious diseases killed a total of 1,669 people in China last month, with AIDS accounting for 70 percent of the deaths, the health ministry said Tuesday.

As many as 5,552 AIDS cases were reported in July, Xinhua reported.

Viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, dysentery and gonorrhoea were the top five infectious diseases.

A total of 75 deaths were caused by hand-foot-mouth disease.

624 colonies to be regularised in the first phase

Delhi government plans to regularise 624 unauthorised colonies out of 1,639 such settlements in the first phase of regularisation which is likely to be completed soon.

Urban Development Minister A K Walia said Government has decided to regularise 624 unauthorised colonies in the first phase as all concerned agencies including ASI, Forest Department, DDA , Revenue Department and MCD have cleared their regularisation.

Thackeray Blasts Advani for ‘demoralising’ blog musings

Hitting out at BJP leader L.K. Advani for predicting a non-Congress, non NDA government in 2014, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray Tuesday said it was akin to conceding defeat “without even entering the boxing ring” and asked the opposition NDA “not to lose heart”.

“If Advani has any doubts, he can come to me (Matoshri, Thackeray’s residence in Mumbai) and I will give him a dose of morale and strength,” Thackeray said in an edit in the party mouthpiece Saamna.

The comments followed Advani’s latest blog in which he predicted a non-Congress, non-NDA alliance coming to power.

Iran summons Swiss envoy over abductions in Syria

The Iranian foreign ministry Tuesday summoned the Swiss charge d’affaires in the country to protest the abduction of Iranian pilgrims in Syria, Press TV reported.

The Swiss embassy in Tehran represents US interests in Iran since Tehran and Washington severed diplomatic relations in 1980.

A total of 48 Iranian pilgrims were abducted last week by militants in Damascus.

Ansari re-elected vice president

UPA candidate Hamid Ansari was Tuesday re-elected India’s vice president, defeating NDA nominee Jaswant Singh.

Lok Sabha Secretary General T.K. Viswanathan, the returning officer for the poll, made the announcement about Ansari’s re-election minutes after the counting ended Tuesday evening at Parliament House.

Ansari polled 490 first preference votes out of 728 valid votes cast in the election. Singh polled 238 votes.

Polling in the vice presidential election was held earlier in the day.

Pakistan concerned over Muslim deaths in Myanmar

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday expressed deep concern over the loss of life and property of Rohingya Muslims in ethnic clashes in Myanmar.

The clashes took place in the western coastal state of Rakhine, Xinhua reported.

In July, Amnesty International said communal violence was continuing in western Myanmar six weeks after the government declared a state of emergency.

Much of the violence was “directed at minority Muslim Rohingyas who have been beaten, raped and killed”, the group said.
