Dr. JP Taking Part In Nanded Cotton Growers’ Conference

Lok Satta Party President Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan is taking part in a conference of cotton growers at Nanded in Maharahstra on Thursday, August 30.

The Nanded unit of Shetkari Sanghatana is organizing the conference which will discuss production of quality cotton seeds and extension of technical know-how to farmers. Representatives of companies which have evolved new cotton varieties will be honored.

Sharad Joshi, founder of Shetkari Sanghatan and former MP, will preside.

Another ‘T’ Party Launched

Another political outfit for cause of separate Telangana called as “Telangana Navanirman Sena” (TNS) was announced on Wednesday.

Announcing this at a press conference, TNS president Kodicherla Venkataiah said though the people of the region have been relentlessly fighting for separate Telangana State right from 1956 (Andhra Pradesh Formation), the successive Congress-led Union governments did not care to honour the sentiments of the sons of the soil.

Delhi gets highest rainfall for a day, one dead

Delhi was on Wednesday lashed by highest rainfall in a single day this monsoon season, which claimed a life, flooded the roads and gave a harrowing time to commuters due to traffic snarls.

A boy was killed when a wall in Tilak Nagar Keshav Mandi, near metro station collapsed. Two men were also injured.

The three municipal bodies reported 36 complaints of water logging, 18 of fallen trees and six complaints of collapse of building structures in the city.

Modi rules out apology for 2002 Gujarat riots

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has refused to apologise for the 2002 riots in the state.

“One only has to ask for forgiveness if one is guilty of a crime. If you think it’s such a big crime, why should the culprit be forgiven?

“Just because Modi is a chief minister, why should he be forgiven. I think Modi should get the biggest punishment possible if he is guilty. And the world should know that there isn’t any tolerance for such political leaders,” he told The Wall Street Journal.

He was asked whether he would apologise for the riots which his critics demand.

390 students appear for web counseling

Only 390 students appeared for verification and web counseling for admission to engineering courses during last three days at the JNTUK Kakinada help center. A JNTUK press release here today said on August 27, 130 students, on the next day 110 students and on the third day today 150 students appeared for the web counseling.

The students who failed to attend the verification till now can appear for the same on or before September 6.

The Web option process will start on August 30.

Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi spilt as pair

Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi have decided to split as a pair, ending the speculation over their future as a mixed doubles team following the bitter selection row ahead of the London Olympics.

Coal was not sold, so nobody benefited: Sibal

The government on Wednesday said there was no question of anyone benefiting from coal block allocation as the mineral were never sold and accused the BJP of raking up the issue for no reason because of its desperation to come to power at the Centre before 2014.

Telecom and HRD minister Kapil Sibal also rejected Opposition demand for cancellation of the licences for coal block allocation, saying such a step would cause huge monetary loss and badly affect the country’s power sector.

Five die in Yamuna Expressway accident

Five people were killed on Wednesday when a truck turned turtle on the Yamuna Expressway near Mathura after one of its tyres burst, police said.

Half a dozen others were injured, two of them critically, Mathura’s Senior Superintendent of Police NR Padmaja said.

At the time of the accident, police was busy clearing a jam on the expressway caused by a protest.

A 35-year-old man from Delhi died and a woman and two children from his family were injured in an accident on the expressway here Aug 25.

Speeding on the 165-km expressway, opened Aug 9, has been a major concern.

Maharashtra ATS chief Rakesh Maria today said here that the trial and sentencing of Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab was culmination of a “unique” investigation, and a daunting task accomplished by various agencies.

No question of Modi quitting, says Gujarat govt

Dismissing demand for Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation following the verdict in Naroda Patiya case of 2002 riots, Gujarat government today distanced itself from convicted BJP MLA Dr Maya Kodnani saying she was not a minister when the incident occurred.

“Let me be very clear that the MLA is not a state government functionary as you are trying to make it out, secondly, Dr Maya Kodnani was not a minister when this incident took place,” government spokesperson Jaynarayan Vyas said while lashing out the Opposition for tageting Modi.

Germany to get first Islamic bank in October

Turkey’s Kuveyt Turk investment fund plans to open the first Islamic bank in Germany in October, the Financial Times Deutschland reported.

Kuveyt Turk plans to open its first branch, following the principles of the Islamic sharia law, in Frankfurt-am-Main in cooperation with Ernst & Young auditing company and Norton Rose law firm.

Sharia law prohibits a fixed or floating payment or acceptance of specific interest or fees on loans.

As for mortgages, the Islamic bank purchases houses and then sells it to a client for a higher price.

Probe ‘terrorist acts’ in Syria, says Russia

Russia insists that terrorist acts in Syria should be investigated with UN and Arab League representatives, the Russian foreign ministry said.

The ministry referred in particular to the mass killing of civilians in the Damascus suburb of Daraya, where, it said, more than 200 bodies were found.

“This is yet another crime of a provocative nature,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Moscow resolutely condemns these barbarous acts of violence. At the same time, we insist on a thorough and unbiased investigation into all the circumstances of the recent tragedies,” it said.

Sanjay Gadhvi feels pressure of ‘Dhoom’ series

Director Sanjay Gadhvi, who shot to fame with “Dhoom” series, says he felt the pressure of the franchise when he directed his subsequent project “Kidnap”.

Gadhvi made his directorial debut in 2000 with “Tere Liye”. But he achieved fame with “Dhoom” (2004) and “Dhoom 2” (2006).

Prepare to take power: Germany, Italy tell Syrian opposition

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti have called on the Syrian opposition to prepare to take over power in the country.

“The Syrian opposition should prepare to take responsibility,” Merkel said Wednesday following a meeting with Monti.

The Italian prime minster said Italy was very concerned about the situation in Syria and emphasised that he agreed with Merkel on the issue of Syrian peace resolution.

Inspector sent in jail for molesting boy

A Uttar Pradesh police sub-inspector was arrested for allegedly trying to molest a boy in his residence under Piswan police station last night. Police sources here today said Sub-Inspector Dharmendra Pratap Singh was arrested and sent to jail on the complaint of Yogendra (16). The victim is the son of a chowkidar and he was called by the Sub Inspector to his residence for domestic help. However, police were investigating the case. UNI

Cong appeals to YSRCP to withdraw bandh call

Andhra Pradesh Government Chief Whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy today appealed to YSR Congress party to reconsider its call for state-wide bandh on August 31.

Cops spell rules for placing Ganesh idols

The City police Commissioner today informed Ganesh idols can be installed in public places and other localities only after obtaining prior permission in writing from the concerned Divisional Assistant Commissioners of Police. In a release, Commissioner Anurag Sharma also said the Ganesh Festival this year will commence from September 19 and the immersion would take place on September 29. MMS of delivery; 4 held

Four intern medicos were arrested in Durg today for allegedly creating a Multimedia Messaging Service message of a woman while delivering her baby in the District Hospital, police said. Police booked altogether 11 staff members of the hospital, including senior doctors, interns, nurses and ward boys present in the maternity ward on Monday night when the incident happened. A criminal offence was registered against the accused after the victim’s kin lodged complaints with the Collector, the Superintendent of Police and the Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer.

Drinking water scheme being implemented in 267 villages. DC

District Collector Budda Prakash Jyothi said that 267 villages were chosen for the implementation of drinking water scheme at a cost of Rs.118 crores. Addressing a review meeting of the National Rural Drinking Water Scheme, here today, he said the funds, earmarked for the implementation of the drinking water scheme, should be utilized fully. He asked the officials concerned to take necessary permissions from the departments concerned to dig-up roads to lay pipe lines.

Come clear on fees reimbursement: YSRCP to AP Govt

The YSR Congress Party today demanded the Andhra Pradesh Government to be categorical about fees reimbursement as its GO has been creating confusion and may not stand legal scrutiny which results in loss of an academic year for the students. Party spokesperson Gattu Ramachandra Rao told reporters here that if the State is not willing to continue the fees reimbursement scheme, it can openly tell its stand and need not take recourse to various clauses of the GO.

More YSR statues to be installed
