Class four student run over in Delhi

A class four student was crushed to death by a speeding school van here Thursday, police said.

The nine-year-old student, Mohammad Sarfaraz, who lived with his parents and three siblings at rented accommodation in west Dehli’s Nawada village, was crossing the road near Nawada Metro station when the accident took place around 7.20 a.m.

He was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The van driver managed to flee with the vehicle.

A case regarding the incident has been registered and hunt is on to nab him, said a police officer.

I’ll legalise gay marriage by 2015, vows Cameron

British Prime Minister David Cameron has promised that gay marriage will be legalised in the country by 2015, the Daily Mail reported on Thursday.

The Prime Minister also paid tribute to Tony Blair for paving the way by introducing civil partnerships.

In remarks that will concern some Tory traditionalists, Cameron said: “I am absolutely determined that this coalition government will follow in that tradition by legislating for gay marriage in this parliament.”

CBI JD Call List Case: Venka Reddy Remanded Till Aug. 6

The CID police have produced businessman K Venka Reddy, who was arrested in connection with the leakage of the call data record of the CBI Joint Director V V Lakshmi Narayana in the court here on Thursday. He was remanded to judicial custody till August 6.

Venka Reddy is the vice-president of Ind Bharat Energies of Maharashtra. Suspecting his involvement, CID police arrested him on Wednesday. CID Additional DG Ramana Murty has stated that Venka Reddy and some others had obtained the call data of the CBI JD through illegitimate means.

Kavita Wants Telangana Airports Developed

Telangana Jagruti president Kavita met minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao here on Thursday and asked him to develop airports in the Telangana region.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, she has alleged that the Seemandhra rulers were only developing their own airports. She said that she had demanded immediate starting of Warangal and Adilabad airports. She also demanded that the Begumpet airport be used for domestic travels. (NSS)

Kejriwal challeges court’s power to summon him

Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday moved a court here challenging its power to summon him for his alleged offensive remarks against Members of Parliament.

Kejriwal appeared before the court of District and Session Judge Riyasat Hussain and filed the application through his counsel Adarsh Sharma. The judge fixed July 28 as the next date for hearing of Kejriwal’s plea against the summons to him.

The court had sent a notice to Kejriwal on a complaint by a Bulandshehar resident, Jitendra Sindhu, seeking his prosecution for his alleged offensive remarks against MPs.

No Talks On Telangana In Delhi: Shailajanath

Primary Education Minister Dr S Sailajanath has said that no deliberations were being held on Telangana in New Delhi.

Speaking to the media at CLP office here on Thursday, Sailajanath hoped that the Centre will maintain status-quo on Telangana issue following the report of Justice Srikrishna Committee.

The minister said that the Ministers’ Committee was working on how to strengthen the party and government and how to attract some sections of the people, who were distancing themselves from the party.

Warden Held For Belaboring Boy

Warden of Living Home Hostel in Nandanavanam Colony under Meerpet mandal was arrested by the police for allegedly thrashing a Class III boy studying in the hostel.

According to the information, Warden Daniel thrashed Mahesh indiscriminately with a cane on back and legs for taking his cellphone kept on his table and playing with it. The boy suffered grievous injuries.

The Meerpet police rushed to the hostel and took the warden into custody following a complaint lodged by the boy’s parents. (NSS)

Maniac Knifes Three In Bus In Nellore; CM orders probe

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has asked Director General of Police Dinesh Reddy to order a comprehensive inquiry and ensure immediate arrest of the maniac, who attacked RTC bus passengers in Thada of Nellore district, in which three persons were killed.

Man kicks wife to death for delivering baby girl

Angry that his wife delivered a second baby girl, a 25-year-old man allegedly kicked her to death on the city outskirts, police said in Thursday.

Police said the man, who was arrested today, kicked his wife in the stomach last night resulting in heavy bleeding.

She was taken to a private hospital where she died this morning, police said. Pandyarajan was angry at his wife delivering the second baby girl recently and picked up a quarrel and kicked her, police said.

His mother was also arrested on the charge of abetting the murder, they said.

Olympics: Security is top priority: Cameron

Security during the London Olympic Games was the British government’s main concern, Prime Minister David Cameron has said.

“Obviously, our main concern is to have secure games, that is more important than all else,” Xinhua quoted Cameron as saying at a press conference Thursday.

Cameron toured the Olympic complex Thursday accompanied by Sebastian Coe, chairman of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).

Russia to build new aircraft carrier after 2020

Russia will begin building new aircraft carriers after 2020, in a bid to give a major boost to the country’s ability to deploy air power abroad, navy chief Viktor Chirkov has said.

“At the moment, the construction bureau has received its assignment, the documents are being processed, and the money for the construction programme has been allocated,” Chirkov said.

If the plans reach fruition, it would be a major boon to the Russian navy, which currently fields only one ageing aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov.

Russian warships not to enter Syria port: Navy chief

A flotilla of Russian warships off the coast of Syria will not dock at a port leased by Moscow in the violence-stricken Middle East country, Russia’s navy chief has said.

“The joint fleet flotilla will not enter the port of Tartus,” Vice Admiral Viktor Chirkov said. “It is carrying out military drills in the Mediterranean.”

The flotilla comprises 10 warships, plus escort vessels. Chirkov also said the flotilla was carrying marines.

16 pilgrims killed in Jammu

At least 16 people were killed and 20 others injured when a truck carrying them rolled down into a gorge in Samba district here past midnight, police said Friday.

The truck carrying Amarnath pilgrims skid off the road and fell into a gorge near Pappad Morh in Samba district, about 75 km from here, late Thursday.

The injured have been shifted to hospital for treatment, a police officer said.

Andhra Pradesh Government today decided to make the Physical Education in the schools compulsory. As per the directions of the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the government issued GO making physical education in the Schools compulsory, an official release here said. It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had stated that the State Government is encouraging sports, games and athletics which will inculcate dedication, discipline, concentration and mental ability in our younger generation.
