Masjid Mohammadia of Uppal rehabilitated

After the uphill struggle and enthusiasm of the ardent young men of Uppal and Amberpet, the 50 year old uninhabited masjid located at the bank of Uppal Lake, has been rehabilitated.

A special report had been published in Siasat daily during the month January, in which details were presented regarding uninhabited masjids of city and outskirts along with their photos. The Siasat’s campaign bore fruits and encouraged by the publication of the reports the young men of Uppal and Amberpet undertook the task of restoring the uninhabited masjid.

World groups’ silence over Muslim genocide in Myanmar flayed

15 Indians killed in Nepal accident

As many as 15 Indian pilgrims, including four children, were killed Saturday when their jeep fell into a river in Nepal, a media report said.

The pilgrims were killed in the accident at Jorte along the Tansen-Tamghas road in Palpa district Saturday morning, reported ekantipur.com.

The passengers were Indian pilgrims who were headed to Rurudham.
Two passengers sustained critical injuries.

The jeep veered off the road and went into the river.
Myrepublica.com said that the dead have been identified nine women, four children and two men.

Syrian opposition flag unfurled at Eiffel Tower

A giant flag of the Syrian opposition was Friday unfurled on construction scaffolding under the legs of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

According to weekly French newsmagazine Le Nouvel Observateur, the 7-by-30 metre green-white-black tricolour with three stars on the white stripe – and speckled with simulated blood stains – was attached by activists of the “France Syria Democracy” organisation.

The organisation campaigns for a foreign military intervention to topple President Bashar al-Assad.

Cong. delegation makes representation before governor for Abdul Qadeer’s release

A delegation of Congress leaders led by minister for endowment C Ram Chandraiya arrived at Raj Bhawan and called on governor S L Narsimhan. They presented the letter of Rajya Sabha MP Chiranjeevi and appealed to release ex-constable Abdul Qadeer on humanitarian grounds, who has already completed his sentence by spending 22 years in jail. Governor assured sympathetic consideration on the appeal made by Congress leaders.

The delegation included government whip Mr. Anil, Congress spokesman Mr. Feroz Khan, Mr. Gautam, besides Congress leader Mr. Baswaraj Srinivas.

Half of Russia sees foreign meddling in Syria

Almost half of Russians — 46 percent — believe that the Syrian conflict is the result of interference by hostile foreign powers seeking to increase their influence in the Middle East or to weaken Syria.

According to a public survey published Friday by Russia’s state-run VTsIOM pollster, only 19 percent of those polled describe the Syrian crisis as a popular uprising against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

More than one third — 34 percent — of respondents were undecided on the nature of the conflict.

PM, Sonia arrive in Guwahati, leave for Kokrajhar

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi Saturday arrived at an airport here and immediately left for Assam’s restive district of Kokrajhar to take stock of the situation.

A week of violence in Bodo areas has claimed 45 lives and left an estimated 2.5 lakh people homeless, according to officials.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Governor J.B. Patnaik and Assam Pradesh Congress president Bhubaneswar Kalita also left with the prime minister and Gandhi on the visit to Kokrajhar. Three special helicopters carried the entourage to the violence-hit district.

Rashtrapati Bhavan programmes on Youtube

Expanding reach on internet, the Rashtrapati Bhavan has put programmes attended by President Pranab Mukherjee on video-sharing site Youtube.

Officials said the decision to upload ceremonies on the website was aimed at reaching out to younger generation and people working in cyber space.

The move came two days after Mukherjee was sworn-in as the 13th President of the country.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan has already formed a page on the newly elected President on social networking site Facebook with a view to provide a platform for people to air their grievances.

15 killed in road accident in Nepal

At least 15 people, including an Indian, were killed when an Indian jeep they were travelling in veered off some 100 meters down the road in western Nepal’s Palpa district early today.

Earlier reports had said that all those killed were Indians. However, the police later confirmed that the victims included 14 Nepalese and an Indian.

The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu also confirmed that only one Indian was among those killed.

Nine women, two men and four children were killed when the jeep fell down the road on a slope at Jorte of Deurali Bhire are of Palpa district, police said.

Gunman kills five in Colombia

Five people were killed and five wounded when a gunman opened fire at a crowd watching an amateur soccer match in the northwestern Colombian city of Medellin, authorities said Friday.

The bloodbath occurred Thursday night in the La Esperanza neighborhood, police Lt Col Ramiro Riveros said.

Two of the fatalities were minors, he told a press conference in Medellin, the capital of Antioquia province.

The five injured survivors are in stable condition, he said.

11-year-old Indian roller skater breaks world record

An 11-year-old Indian boy broke a world record by flattening himself enough to skim under poles just 6.75 inches from the ground, Daily Mail reported on Friday.

At first glance it looks as if his body is resting on the floor, but Rohan Ajit Kokane is in fact just inches above the ground on his roller skates.

He completed the amazing feat in front of an astounded crowd at a Hong Kong mall.

The event was aimed at promoting exercise among the elderly, the newspaper said.

Curfew relaxed in Bareilly

With situation heading towards normal, curfew was on Friday relaxed in trouble-hit areas of the district, a senior official said here.

Divisional commissioner K Ram Mohan Rao said as the situation was normalising fast, curfew was relaxed first for Friday prayers in the afternoon and later for two hours from 3.30 pm.

He said that in the wake of ‘rakhi’ festival and to facilitate students send forms of various examination, post offices would remain open tomorrow.

Rao said elaborate security arrangements would be made for ‘kanwar yatra’ on Monday and ‘jal bhishek’ at Shiva temples.

Arunachal CM calls on President

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Friday called on President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhawan here and congratulated him on behalf of the people of the state.

Accompanied by several ministers and legislators of the state, Tuki met the new president and highlighted the areas where the state required logistic and moral support from the centre.

Tuki said he was hopeful that the new President would pay special attention towards the landlocked state of Arunachal Pradesh, official sources said.

Two labourers killed as wall collapses

Two labourers died here on Friday as a portion of a fire station’s wall collapsed in north-east Delhi this morning, police said.

The incident took place at Gokulpuri at around 8:15 am and the deceased have been identified as Pramod (21) and Zohar (45), who hailed from Bihar.

They were working on a drain near the fire station when the wall collapsed.

There were six labourers were working at the drain.

The wall allegedly became weak because of accummulation of water under its foundation. The labourers who were trapped under the debris were rescued, police said.

Antony to review security situation in Kashmir

Defence Minister AK Antony will review the security situation in Kashmir Valley during his two-day visit to the state beginning Saturday and also interact with troops deployed in the forward locations.

Antony’s delegation includes the Chief of Army Staff General Bikram Singh and the Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma, a defence spokesman said.

He said that the Defence Minister will review the security situation in the Valley and also chair the Unified Headquarters meeting.

This is Antony’s first visit to the state in the last 18 months.

Government trying to break Team Anna, says Hazare

Activist Anna Hazare Friday again accused the government of trying to break the unity of Team Anna by holding secret talks with him.

Talking to reporters here, Anna Hazare said: “V. Narayanasamy wrote a letter to me and gave it to my team so that they feel Anna is talking with government. They are trying to break our team.”

“It was their conspiracy to stop me from attending this agitation,” he said.

V. Narayanasamy, who is Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, however, hit back saying he wrote only in response to Anna Hazare’s letter.

Zardari formally invites Manmohan Singh to visit Pakistan

President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday formally invited Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to visit Pakistan, saying the trip would provide an opportunity to take stock of bilateral relations.

Zardari suggested that if Singh’s visit coincided with celebrations to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak in November, it would be well received by the Pakistani people and reinforce the desire of both countries to promote inter-religious harmony.

Gujarat HC grants relief to 18 convicts in Godhra revenge plot

The Gujarat High Court today ordered release of 18 convicts awarded 10 years in jail in a terror conspiracy case, treating the prison term they have undergone till date as their punishment after they agreed not to press for their acquittal.

The HC, after granting relief to the convicts, disposed of their appeals against a Special Court’s order awarding them 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI).

Thai Airways flight makes an emergency landing at Hyderabad

(Siasat News)Hyderabad to Bangkok Thai Airways flight makes an emergency landing minutes after it took off from Hyderabad due to technical problem at 1.10 a.m. today.

The Airbus-330 with 257 passengers landed after the pilots informed the airport control about the problem and sought permission to land immediately.

Later Airline sources said some passengers were sent to Mumbai and some to Delhi, from where they could be flown to Bangkok.

Others are provided with accommodation in a hotel near the airport.
