Sohail Khan’s car crushes 70-yr-old woman to death

It’s yet another Bollywood actor who has been caught in a controversy. A 70-year-old woman was allegedly mowed down under the wheels of Actor Sohail Khan’s car on Sunday midnight near Bandra in Mumbai.

The woman who was rushed to a nearby hospital was declared brought dead by doctors. According to reports, Sohail Khan was not present in the vehicle when his driver Dhananjaya Pimpale was driving the car.

Probe ordered into assault on Assam MLA

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the assault on Congress MLA Rumi Nath and her second husband at a Karimganj hotel which sparked off violent protests and bandh in south Assam’s Barak Valley.

Karimganj Deputy Commissioner Debeswar Malakar today ordered the inquiry into the incident. The report of the inquiry is to be submitted within 15 days, official sources said.

In another development, three personnel security officers of the MLA were suspended due to dereliction of duty.

Minority Welfare Minister orders special arrangements ahead of Shab-e-Baraat

Writing a letter to GHMC Commissioner and all district collectors of the states, Minority Welfare Minister Mr. Mohammad Ahmedullah directed them to complete arrangements before July 5.

Mr. Mohammed Ahmedullah directed the officials to clean mosques and graveyards, white-wash them and make lighting arrangements.

He directed the officials to complete arrangements well before time and submit report. Mr. Ahmedullah told that Muslims go to the graveyards and recite fatiha on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat, hence they should not face any difficulty.

Illegal occupation of ancient graveyard; graves demolished

Producer Kumar Taurani`s ‘Jayanta Bhai Ki Luv Story’, starring Vivek Oberoi and Neha Sharma, will hit the big screen in October this year.

“We are happy to announce our next venture `Jayanta Bhai Ki Luv Story`, which will release October this year. The shoots have been on schedule and we are very excited with the way things are shaping up. We can`t wait for the film to hit theatres,” Taurani said in a statement.

Hema Malini had invited Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her daughter Esha`s wedding with Bharat Takhtani. She says that the two couldn`t come due to security reasons and that the latter has invited the newly wed couple at her residence.

One in every five suicides in India committed by a housewife: Report ‎

Every four minutes, one person takes his own life in this country and one in every five suicides is that of a housewife.

This and other startling figures are part of a government report ‘Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India 2011’ released here recently.

According to the report, the number of suicides have increased in 2011 by 0.7 per cent to touch 1,35,585 compared to 1,34,599 in the previous year.

Mother gives birth in a coma

A British woman delivered a child in coma but lost any memory of even being pregnant at the first place as she gained consciousness a fortnight later at the hospital.

Emma Mynors, 23, was rushed to a hospital after falling unconscious with pneumonia and suffering two strokes. Two weeks into the coma, she began to go into labour prematurely at 29 weeks, The Sun reported.
Nurses carrying out a routine examination of Mynors noticed that she was delivering a child. She gave birth to a baby girl naturally.

Dravid open to coaching Team India in future

Recently-retired Rahul Dravid on Sunday indicated that he is open to the idea of coaching the Indian cricket team in future.

“Who knows someday in the future,” Dravid answered when asked if he would be interested in taking up coaching responsibility of the Indian team in future.

Kingfisher pilots go on strike, cancels ATR-operated flights

A section of pilots of the near- bankrupt Kingfisher Airlines went on strike on Sunday to protest against non-payment of salaries for the past five months, forcing the airline to cancel its ATR-operated flights.

Following the strike, the airline management has deployed executive pilots to carry out truncated operations, sources in the airline said.

An airlines spokesperson confirmed this development, but did not provide any other details.

ANOTHER SCAM: Defence canteen scam, 4 accused in CBI custody

A special court here Sunday sent four accused in a corruption racket, involving officials of the canteen stores department (CSD) of the defence ministry and a private company, to CBI custody till July 6, an official said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) busted the racket related to supplies at the defence canteen Saturday.

The court remanded all the four accused in police custody till July 6, a CBI official said.

Congress MP ready to be quizzed by police, CPI-M leaders not keen

Congress MP K.Sudhakaran Sunday asserted he would make himself available before the special police team probing a case of attempted murder against him but CPI-M legislator T.V.Rajesh and his party colleague were not keen to follow him in two other cases.

“I wholeheartedly welcome the probe and I will make myself available to the SIT (special investigating team) at any time they ask me to appear before them,” Sudhakaran told reporters here.

Myanmar president postpones Bangladesh visit

Myanmar President Thein Sein’s visit to Bangladesh has been postponed due to ongoing ethnic tensions in that country.

Dhaka made the announcement Sunday following foreign secretary level talks between the two countries here, Xinhua reported.

Myanmar president was scheduled to start his three-day official tour July 15.

A state of emergency was clamped in Myanmar’s Rakhine state following clashes between Muslims and Buddhists last month. Dozens of people had died.

Football fans across Spain celebrated their country’s 4-0 win over Italy in the final of the European Championship Sunday night.

Goals from David Silva, Jordi Alba, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata gave Spain the win against the Italians in Kiev.

Stop violence against gay community: Elton John

Singer Elton John has called for an end to violence against gay people following a spate of homophobic attacks in Ukraine.

The “Rocket Man” hitmaker performed at an Aids charity concert in Kiev Saturday.

In between songs he referenced newspaper reports of attacks on the gay community in the country, and made an emotional appeal to stop violence, reports contactmusic.com.

“Recently I read about violence against gay people in Ukraine. Beating up gay people is wrong. This for me does not symbolise Ukraine. I plead with you: Stop the violence against gay people,” he said.

Russian spacecraft returns to earth

A Russian spacecraft with three crewmembers on board returned to earth Sunday.

The Soyuz spacecraft landed safely in Kazakhstan, Russia’s mission control centre said.

The crew included Russian astronaut Oleg Kononenko, American Donald Pettit and Dutch Andre Kuipers.

It undocked from the International Space Station at 0448 GMT and landed on earth at 0815 GMT, Xinhua reported. The trio spent 193 days in space.
