DLF accused Gupta remanded to CCS custody

The Criminal Court in Nampally on Monday remanded Gowri Shankar Gupta, who allegedly duped the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority by invoking the name of realtor major DLF, to police custody for three days.

The court while remanding him to the custody of City Crime Station police asked them to question in the presence of lawyers from morning 10 to 5 pm. The court also directed the CCS police to don’t use any third degree methods while eliciting information from him.

Dalbir Kaur, sister of Indian prisoner in Pakistan Sarabjit Singh, Monday said she regretted the day Surjeet Singh got released from a Pakistani prison.

“Surjeet Singh has created a problem not only for Sarabjit, but all Indian prisoners who are stuck in Pakistani jails. I am still regretting his release,” Kaur said at a press conference held here Monday.

Pakistan released Surjeet Singh last Thursday. Though reports had earlier said that Sarabjit Singh would be released, Pakistan later clarified that it was Surjeet who was to be released, and not Sarabjit Singh.

ACB arrests rowdy-sheeter in cash-for-bail case

The Anti Corruption Bureau sleuths on Monday arrested rowdy-sheeter Yadagiri, who allegedly brokered the cash-for-bail deal between the CBI first additional special judge T Pattabhirama Rao and accused in illegal mining case Gali Janardhana Reddy.

While arresting Yadagiri in Kurnool, the ACB officials also conducted raids at his house in Nacharam in Hyderabad and recovered Rs 2.25 crore in cash, valuable documents and other materials in connection with the deal. It may be mentioned that Yadgiri was absconding since the cash-for-bail scam come to light.

Aarushi murder scene photos flawed: Defence

There is a mismatch between several of the 23 crime scene photographs and their negatives submitted by the prosecution, a defence counsel told a court here trying the Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case.

The photographs were taken by Uttar Pradesh Police photographer Chunni Lal Gautam, who also lifted the finger prints from the crime scene soon after the crime.

Fourteen-year-old Aarushi was found murdered in her parents’ Noida flat on the morning of May 16, 2008, with her throat slit, while her domestic help Hemraj was found killed a day later on the terrace of the house.

The High Court on Monday reprimanded Joint Director of Central Bureau of Investigation V V Lakshminarayana for speaking to media and leaking information to a section of media against YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy, who was accused in the disproportionate assets case.

Taking a serious note on the issue, High Court bench headed by interim chief justice P C Ghosh and C Praveen Kumar asked V V Lakshminarayana to submit his explanation by July 9.

BJP accuses Ghaziabad administration of favouring SP

The BJP Monday accused the Ghaziabad district administration of acting as a catalyst for the ruling Samajwadi Party in the July 4 city municipal polls . The party is locked in a straight fight with the SP for the mayor’s seat.

The Bhartiya Janata Party alleged the district administration is ignoring poll violations by the ruling party. He charged that the SP workers have displayed hoardings on electric and telephone poles in support of their candidate, Sudhan Rawat, but the administration has not taken any action.

Falaknuma firing injured Mansoor, dies

(Siasat News): The injured man in Falaknuma firing Mansoor, succumbed to his injuries. He was being attacked on June 21 by his relatives when he was going somewhere on his motorbike in Vattepally. He was severely injured and under treatment at Nims Hospital. Police also confirmed his death. The deceased was the son of one Mohd. Hashim of Qazipura. Police Falaknuma has arrested the culprits involved in this crime and handed them over to judicial custody.

TDP holds ‘Maha Dharna’, Naidu, Naryana held

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and CPI State Secretary K Narayana were arrested by the police when they tried to lay siege to the Secretariat after completion of the Maha Dharna organised on the farmers’ issue, here today. Mr Naidu and Mr Narayana were taken into preventive custody along with several leaders of their parties and farmers organisations when they tried to march towards the Secretariat to meet the Chief Minister on the farmers issue. However, the leaders were prevented by the police.

Magisterial inquiry ordered into assault on Converted Muslim MLA

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the assault on Congress MLA Rumi Nath and her second husband at a Karimganj hotel which sparked off violent protests and bandh in south Assam’s Barak Valley.

Karimganj Deputy Commissioner Debeswar Malakar today ordered the inquiry into the incident. The report of the inquiry is to be submitted within 15 days, official sources said.

LeT ‘major general’, two ISI men were in 26/11 control room: Jundal

A senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) activist, identified only as “major general saheb”, was among the 10 people present in the control rook set up in Karachi to orchestrate the 26/11 terror attack on Mumbai, key suspect Abu Jundal has told Indian investigators, an officer said.

Indian intelligence agencies are still to ascertain the identity of the LeT activist.

However, they are convinced that at least two of the 10 people present in the control room on November 26, 2008, were from Pakistan’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), as per Jundal’s revalations.

Maoist encounter a cold-blooded murder? CRPF denies allegations

A group of activists led by Justice Rajinder Sachar and Swami Agnivesh today demanded a judicial inquiry into the encounter in Chhattisgarh in which 19 suspected Maoists were killed.

At a press conference, former Delhi high court Chief Justice Sachar said they were demanding a judicial enquiry into the incident as they have no faith in CBI or a magisterial inquiry.

His views were echoed by other activists like Swami Agnivesh, B D Sharma and Himanshu Kumar.

Iran to hold missile drill

Iran will begin a three-day missile defence exercise Monday, the military said.

The exercise dubbed “Great Prophet 7” will be conducted by the aerospace division of the
Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Xinhua quoted the Mehr news agency as saying.

Over 100 targets in a desert in central Iran will be targeted by short-, medium- and long-range missiles as part of the exercise.

India should apologise for sending Surjeet Singh to spy: Pakistan

Days after he claimed terror suspect Zabiuddin Ansari could have mounted a “sting operation” to carry out the Mumbai attacks from Pakistani soil, Interior Ministry chief Rehman Malik today demanded that India apologise for sending Surjeet Singh to spy in Pakistan.

Mr Malik made the demand while addressing a news conference in London, the Pakistani media reported.

He demanded an apology from India for sending Mr Singh “for spying in Pakistan”, state-run radio reported.

Congress seeks CBI probe into Chhattisgarh killings

An opposition Congress’s team, which probed the killing of 19 Maoists by security forces in Chhattisgarh last week, Monday termed it as a massacre of innocent villagers and demanded a CBI probe.

Kawasi Lakhma, Congress legislator from Konta and head of the investigation team which revisited Kottaguda village, the site of Friday’s killings in Bijapur district, told IANS over phone: “The victims’ families narrated to the team members the brutalities of security forces and how their men and kids were picked up from their houses and taken to the outskirts of the village only to shoot them.”

Acid attacks: SC fiat to Centre, states

The Supreme Court today asked the Centre to apprise it of their measures to regulate the sale of acid to prevent its misuse as a weapon, particularly against women by their jilted lovers.

The court sought a “comprehensive affidavit” from the Ministry of Home Affairs, which was asked to “consider proper action” for making appropriate provision for “regulation of sale of acids so that it is not easily or readily available to offenders.”

Pranab does not hold office of profit: Govt

Rejecting PA Sangma’s claim and objection, the government on Monday said that UPA nominee Pranab Mukherjee resigned as chairman of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) a week before he filed his nomination in the President’s Election and does not hold any office of profit.

“He (Mukherjee) had resigned as chairman, ISI, on June 20, a week before he filed his nominations,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister PK Bansal said shortly after Sangma’s camp filed a petition seeking cancellation of the UPA’s candidate’s nomination on grounds of holding an office of profit.

Naidu in preventive custody

TDP President and Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly N Chandrababu Naidu and State CPI secretary K Narayana were taken into preventive custody today along with several leaders of their parties and farmers organisations when they tried to march towards the Secretariat to meet the Chief Minister on the farmers issue.

Soon after concluding a “maha dharna” protesting the Congress government’s indifference to the farmers plight, Chandrababu and Narayana were leading their party workers towards the Secretariat from Indira Park for laying a siege but were blocked by police midway.
