Two motorcycle-borne Pak infiltrators arrested in Jammu

Two Pakistani infiltrators, riding a motorcycle, today “inadvertently” crossed over Indo-Pak border and were arrested close to a forward Border Out Post (BoP) in Jammu district.

The two youth crossed the Zeroline along International Border (IB) and landed up close to three-tier border fencing in Tubewell-4 BoP in Karotana Khurd forward belt in R S Pura this morning, BSF officials said.

Sangh backing for Ramdev, Hazare: Digvijay

Congress leader Digvijay Singh today said the RSS and its affliate organisations were continuing to support yoga guru Ramdev and Anna Hazare and would back them even during elections.

“Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare had and will continue to have the support of the Sangh Parivar. Even during elections these people have been supportive of them (Sangh),” Singh told reporters.

Gold chain snatched from housewife on ORR

Four highway robbers have waylaid a couple at Bonglur ORR under Vanasthalipuram police limits and relieved the housewife of her gold ornaments weighing three tolas.

According to the police, Narasimha and Sunita were returning on bike from Ravirala village under Ibrahimpatnam mandal after attending a function when the desperadoes waylaid the couple at Bonglur ORR and snatched the jewellery of the housewife. They said the culprits brutally assaulted Narasimha and threatened to kill him if he screamed for help or complained to the police and snatched 30 gram gold chain from his wife.

Two Identified In Love-Couple Harassment Case

Police have identified two persons, who allegedly harassed a love-couple at Bhavanapadu under Santabommali mandal in this district on Saturday.

Police said the two were identified as Komara Ravi and Adla Durvasulu. They have intensified their search for the two. The two are charged with making the girl undress before her boy friend. Villagers told the media that the duo was earlier also resorted to such heinous acts. They said that if the two were found, they would themselves hand them over to the police.

Pak police assault two men for having soft drink during Ramzan

wo men were detained and assaulted by policemen in the Pakistani capital for having a soft drink at a popular tourist spot during the period of fasting in the Islamic holy month of Ramzan.

The two men – Anwar Abbas and Malik Saeed – were detained while they were having a soft drink inside a car at Daman-e-Koh, a viewpoint overlooking Islamabad, on Friday afternoon.

The incident was reported to Islamabad police chief Bani Yamin, who assured action will be taken against the officials involved in the incident, the Dawn newspaper reported today.

Some people of a local community allegedly thrashed a person in Birai village near Jodhpur claiming that his son had raped a girl of their community, police said here today.

US drone kills seven in Pakistan

Seven people were killed in a US drone attack in Pakistan Sunday.

The drone fired four missiles at a suspected militant hideout in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan, Xinhua quoted the local Urdu channel Dunya TV as saying.

India successfully tests BrahMos

India Sunday successfully test-fired the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a defence base in Odisha, an official said. It has a range of 290 km and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 300 kg.

The missile was launched from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur in Balasore district, about 230 km from here. “It was an experimental repeat of a previous version,” M.V.K.V. Prasad, director of the test range, told IANS.

Weightlifting: Kazakh prodigy takes gold, world record

Kazakhstan’s teenage prodigy Zulfiya Chinshanlo powered her way to a weightlifting gold in the 53kg category Sunday, breaking her own world record in the clean and jerk.

The 19-year-old posted a snatch of 95 kg before making history with 131 kg in the clean and jerk, one kilogram more than her effort at last year’s world championships.

The total of 226 kg gave a seven-kilo winning margin ahead of Hsu Shu-Ching of Chinese Taipei, who took the silver, and Moldova’s Cristina Iovu, who won the bronze.

Hsu was awarded the silver over Iovu due to a lesser bodyweight.

Nepal’s tiger numbers up

Nepal Sunday reported an increase in the number of its tigers.

According to the latest census report released on the occasion of World Tiger Day Sunday, Nepal has 176 tigers, 21 more than the previous official count.

The 2010 census found 155 tigers, Xinhua reported.

Nepal is among the 13 tiger range countries.

The World Wide Fund for Nature WWF), an international NGO, has urged the governments to raise efforts to curb poaching, a major threat to wild tigers.

India is home to most of the world’s wild tigers, with about 1,700 animals.

Woman dies after workers drill holes above her bed

Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) has apologised to the family of a woman who died hours after workmen turned her hospital room into a building site.

According to her son, an hour before June Barnett, 76, lost her battle with pneumonia at the hospital, three builders pushed her bed out of the way to drill holes in the wall. They slung her medical drip over the back of a chair, Daily Express reported.

While paying an unexpected visit to his mother on the morning of her death, Colin Barnett said he was appalled to notice the men installing an entertainment station above her head.

Taurani to launch son opposite Shruti Haasan

Film producer Kumar Taurani is set to launch his son Girish in a musical opposite Shruti Haasan.

“The film will be a musical love story and Prabhu Deva will direct it. We will start preparations from August 1. We have not finalised on the name for the film yet,” he told IANS.

“We will be shooting the film abroad as well as Mumbai, Pune, and some parts of Himachal Pradesh,” he added.

The producer confirmed that the film is a remake of a southern movie and that they are looking at a March-April release next year.
