Zebrafish could hold the key to understanding the underlying causes of psychiatric disorders, say scientists.

In a study, scientists at Queen Mary, University of London, have found that zebrafish can modify their behaviour in response to varying situations.

Urdu brochure released at RTA Mehdipatnam

One in eight British adults dies of alcohol

One in eight deaths of British adults under the age of 64 is caused due to alcohol, an international conference on tackling problem drinking has been told.

For every European, the social cost of alcohol abuse has been estimated to be 240 pounds a year, with the annual bill for the National Health Service (NHS) alone being 2.7 billion pounds, a newspaper reported.

RCB player arrested for molesting Indian American woman

Another controversy rocked the IPL. An Australian player with the Royal Challengers [ Images ] Bangalore was arrested, on Friday, on charges of molesting an Indian American woman and severely attacking her fiancee leaving him in hospital.

The 27-year-old Australian player Luke Pomersbach allegedly misbehaved with the woman, a US citizen of Indian origin, at the Maurya Sheraton Hotel in New Delhi [ Images ] on Thursday night and has been arrested, police said.

Government will provide material worth Rs.25,000/- to deserving girls belonging to Minorities for performing marriages.

Mr. Abdul Hameed, Executive Director of Minorities Finance Corporation of Karimnagar notified it in a press note. Deserving candidates may register their application three weeks before marriage alongwith the copy of ration card, photos of bride and groom.

Sand supply started from Kotgeer Mandal

Government has sought permission to extract sand from private locations. District Administration of Nizamabad has made arrangement to extract sand in Kotgeer Mandal area.

Contractors were extracting sand from Manjira River which was causing reduction in water level and damage to the roads.

Mr. Yadagiri, Asst. Director of Mines told that at private locations, Government has given permission to extract sand which will be sold at Rs.40 per cubic meter. The consumers have to pay the cost through the Demand Draft.

It is expected that people will get relief by this arrangement.

Cash, liquor seized from East Godavari

Ahead of the June 12 bye-election to the Ramachandrapuram constituency, a large amount of cash and illicit liquor has been seized there from various persons.

East Goadavari District Collector and Election Officer Neetu Prasad said 3,300 litres of illicit liquor was seized while it was being transported. Besides, Rs 1.20 crore cash was also recovered from various persons.

A monitoring committee has been appointed in the district to keep a vigil on suspicious persons and vehicles, she said, during a meeting with other senior district officials last night.

MCA bans Shah Rukh Khan for 5 yrs

The Mumbai Cricket Association banned Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan from entering the Wankhede Stadium for five years for misbehaving with its officials and violating its rules.

The “unanimous” decision was taken at the MCA Managing Committee meeting called to discuss action on Khan who was involved in a skirmish with the security and officials of the association after KKR’s victory over Mumbai Indians on Wednesday night.

Brazil judge sentences Twitter user

A federal judge has sentenced a former law student to 17 months in prison for using Twitter to incite prejudice and discrimination against people from Brazil’s impoverished northeast.

A court statement says that Judge Monica Camargo converted the sentence against Mayara Petruso to community service and a fine of about USD 250.

Petruso’s 2010 Twitter message urged people to kill northeastern Brazilians in reprisal for Dilma Rousseff’s victory in that year’s Presidential Election.

Rousseff enjoyed wide support in the northeast and won a majority of the votes there.

Jharkhand RS polls: CBI raids 15 MLAs’ houses

In a major development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday conducted fresh raids on the residences of at least 15 MLAs in connection with the corruption and horse-trading allegations that marred the March 30 Rajya Sabha elections in Jharkhand.

According to reports, various teams of the CBI are conducting raids at nearly 32 places.

Among those whose residence have been raided are RJD MLA Sanjay Yadav and former BJP MLA Ajay Maru.

Wankhede brawl: MCA slaps 5-year ban on SRK

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) came down hard on Shah Rukh Khan, the co-owner of the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), by banning him from entering the Wankhede stadium for five years following his ugly brawl with MCA staff on Wednesday night.

Announcing the decision in a press conference, MCA chief Vilasrao Deshmuk said, “We have decided to ban SRK from entering the Wankhede stadium for five years since we have found that his behavior was improper and against rules.”

Deshmukh further stated that there was no question of the MCA reverting its ban of the KKR.

Guard says SRK didn’t assault him but Bodyguards did

Officials of the Mumbai Cricket Association may be crying foul over how actor Shah Rukh Khan manhandled Wankhede stadium guard Vikas Dalvi after he prohibited SRK’s entourage from entering the ground after Wednesday’s Mumbai Indians- Kolkata Knight Riders match.

But the man himself has denied the allegations, testifying to the Marine Drive police that the actor did not even lay a finger on him.

However, Dalvi, who recorded statement on Thursday, did admit that SRK, who “ clearly smelt of alcohol”, hurled a volley of abuses and threats at him.

New bride commits suicide

(Siasat News): A five-month-old bride in Dundigal committed suicide by hanging. According to police, 20-year-old Aruna, said to be the wife of one Sheikh Saleem.

They got married just five months back. Ironically, after two months of their marriage Aruna had attempted suicide by consuming pesticides but somehow her life was saved.

The reliable sources said that Aruna was being harassed for more dowry. Even yesterday, the same matter of dowry was the center of the heated argument of the duo.

Indian couple jailed in British immigration scamtt

An Indian couple has been jailed in Britain for involvement in an immigration scam and to assist people in their illegal overstay in the country, a British High Commission release here said Thursday.

Vijay Sorthia, 35, and his wife Bhawna, 31, have been sentenced to 10 years and 15 months in prison respectively by a court in Britain.

In May 2010, Sorthia, an immigration advisor who ran a firm called Migration Gurus based in Wealdstone in London, was arrested at his home.

Lecturer’s recruitment test – writing in Urdu demanded

Mr. Sultan Ahmed Bamehdi, Engineer and member TDP, Nizamabad in a letter addressed to Governor, Vice Chancellor of Osmania University, UGC and Chief Minister of AP demanded to allow the candidates to write APSET 2012 in Urdu also.

This test is being conducted by Osmania University to recruit lecturers in various subjects. Refusal to permit the candidates writing the answers in Urdu would amount to discrimination with a particular linguistic group and a religious community.

Donna Summer passes away

Legendary disco queen, Donna Summer, has passed away at the age of 63 at her Naples home. The singer, who was fondly called ‘Queen of Disco’, was battling with lung cancer.

Donna Summer’s family has said in a statement: “Early this morning, surrounded by family, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith. While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can’t express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time.”
