When you do a film for money, the cash flow does look good but the journey is really a painful experience. I would rather earn less than accept such films where I stay frustrated and irritated on the sets,” Irrfan told PTI.

New liquor policy by July 1

Secondary Education Minister K Parthasarathy on Wednesday stated that the new liquor policy would be likely to be announced by July 1.

Talking to media persons after emerging out of Cabinet Sub-committee meeting being convened at Secretariat, Parthasarathy said that a decision on modalities for framing new liquor policy would be taken in one or two days.

He said that the process was being delayed as the Cabinet Sub-committee has received too many suggestions and complaints from people’s bodies and voluntary organizations over the liquor policy.

Jagan’s bail petition hearing adjourned to May 31

The CBI court at Nampally on Wednesday adjourned the hearing to May 31 on the bail petition of YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was arrested by the CBI in connection with disproportionate assets case.

In the bail petition, Jagan’s counsel stated that he has to campaign in the ensuing by-elections as the YSR Congress party president and requested that the court grant him bail. He also stated that his arrest was illegal and appealed to court to grant bail to enable him to campaign for his party candidates.

Botsa accuses Vijayamma of politicising Jagan’s arrest

Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana on Wednesday criticised YSR Congress party honorary president Y S Vijayamma for leveling baseless charges against the Congress party to get people’s sympathy over her son Jagan Mohan Reddy’s arrest.

CM asks officials to ensure seven hours of power supply to farmers

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday asked the Discoms to ensure seven hours of power supply to farmers, under any circumstances.

The Chief Minister issued these instructions during a detailed review meeting on the power sector he held with Chief Secretary Pankaj Dwivedi and other officials at the State Secretariat. He asked them to look into the complaints being received in this regard. This should be strictly adhered to and there should be constant monitoring on this, he told the Discom officials.

SLET online applications submission date extended

The State Government on Wednesday extended the last date for submitting applications for the State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) for lectureship to June 1.

In a media statement, the SLET spokesperson informed that the last date for submitting online application forms for SLET has been extended by one day to June 1. This was done following appeals from many aspirants.

The State Level Eligibility Test for lectureship will be held on July 27 from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. (INN)

Hospital ransacked following death of pregnant woman

A maternity and nursing home here was today ransacked and its doctors were manhandled by an angry mob following the death of a woman, police said.

A pregnant woman was admitted to Maher Maternity Home at Vartak Nagar but she died due to complications during
delivery. Her relatives ransacked the hospital alleging negligence by the doctors and other staff, they said.

The mob bashed up Dr Ujwala Mahajan, who had attended to the woman, Jyotsana Belose (32), they said.

They also resorted to a spontaneous `rasta Roko’ in Vartak Nagar locality and disrupted road traffic for about an hour.

Mopidevi sent to judicial remand till June 7

The CBI Special Court at Nampally on Wednesday remanded Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana, who was arrested by the CBI in connection with irregularities in allotment of lands for VANPIC project, to judicial custody till June 7.

The court took this decision when the CBI officials produced him in the court following expiry of his five days CBI custody. The court also directed the Chanchalguda Jail officials to treat Mopidevi Venkataramana as ‘special category prisoner’ and allot a special cell in the jail.

Sunitha demands fresh probe into Paritala’s murder case

The police on Wednesday arrested Telugu Desam Ratpadu MLA Paritala Sunitha for sitting in fast-unto-death at Ambedkar Statue in Anantapur district demanding re-opening of murder case of her husband and former Penugonda MLA Paritala Ravindra.

She has been alleging that her husband Paritala Ravindra was killed in 2005 at the behest of late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy. However, the police took Sunitha into custody on the grounds that she did not take prior permission to stage hunger strike and Election Code of Conduct was in force in the district.

EC notices to TRS chief KCR

The Election Commission on Wednesday issued notices to Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao for making religious comments in the by-election campaign violating the model code of conduct.
While serving notices, the Commission asked KCR to file his explanation over the religious comments by May 31 at 3 pm.

According to reports, KCR made controversial comments violating code of conduct during the by-election campaign at Parakala Assembly constituency on May 27.

The Election Commission issued notices to KCR based on the complaint lodged by Bharatiya Janata Party.
