LIC launches new plan ‘Jeevan Vaibhav’

The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Monday launched a new plan ‘Jeevan Vaibhav’ on the traditional platform.

Addressing a press conference, LIC Zonal Manager AK Sahoo said that the ‘Jeevan Vaibhav’ would a single premium non linked insurance plan where the risk cover is the Sum Assured which is almost double the premium chosen by the customer and offers guaranteed returns at Maturity. The plan, which is an ideal combination of Insurance and Returns, would be available for a limited period only up to a maximum of 120 days.

New Excise Policy to be ready by July: Mopidevi

Prohibition and Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana on Monday announced that the new Excise Policy would be ready for implementation by July this year.

Two terror suspects held with RDX in Punjab

Nawanshahr, Punjab, An attempt by terrorists to strike in Punjab was foiled with the arrest of two Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) militants and recovery of three kg RDX and other arms, police said Monday.

Patiala range Inspector General Paramjit Singh Gill said terror suspects Sandeep Singh of Jalandhar district and Sukhwinder Singh of Khanna district were arrested Sunday in Nawanshahr district, about 80 km from state capital Chandigarh.

Gill said the mastermind of the plan was terrorist Gurnek Singh, suspected to be based in the US.

Pomersbach’s lawyer denies he has confessed

Counsel of Luke Pomersbach, the Australian player of IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Monday denied that the cricketer had confessed to police of having inadvertently touched or molested US citizen Zohail Hameed.

Lawyer Neeraj Chaudhry told IANS that his client did not make any confession to police or anyone that he had molested the woman in a five-star hotel.

“It was all a rumour. Luke did not make any such confession. His case is pending in court. So, he will only tell court if he needs to say anything,” said Chaudhry.

Dubai’s Princess Tower enters Guinness Records

The 107-storey-tall Princess Tower in Dubai has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s tallest residential building.

Measuring 414 metres from base to tip, the tower comprises six basement floors, a ground floor and 100 above-ground residential levels.

The tower occupies an area of 37,410 square feet and houses 763 luxury apartments.

Dubai already has a Guinness Record in its name for the tallest building in the world — the 828-metre-high and 160-storey Burj Khalifa.

Khan vows to revive loss-making RTC

AP State Road Transport Corporation’s new Managing Director AK Khan on Monday expressed confidence that he would be able to take the corporation from losses by inducting professionalism in the organisation.

Four held over murder of Karnataka officer

Four people have been detained in connection with the murderous attack on a Karnataka officer who is believed to have exposed land scams in house-building cooperative societies, state Home Minister R. Ashoka said Monday.

TDP will win most seats in AP by-elections: Naidu

The TDP will win majority of the seats in the ensuing bye-elections in Andhra Pradesh on June 12, party President N Chandrababu Naidu said here Monday.

Speaking to reporters at the Madhurapudi airport here, Naidu said the Telugu Desam Party will bag maximum seats in the bye-elections to 18 assembly segments and one Lok Sabha constituency, Nellore.

‘Mukhtasar’ was originally for my album: Wajid

Composer Wajid of the famous Sajid-Wajid duo reveals that originally he had composed “Mukhtasar” for his album but decided to use it in “Teri Meri Kahaani” as the situation in the film was apt for it.

“I had originally made this composition with my album in mind. The words were different then. But when I saw the situation in the film, I thought that I can do the album whenever I want to, but this song should come in the film. Kunal Kohli (director of the film) and everyone else loved the song,” said Wajid.

“Teri Meri Kahaani” is set in three generations – 1910, 1960 and 2012.

Pakistan SC orders seizing unregistered vehicles

The Pakistan Supreme Court Monday ordered confiscation of all vehicles that are plying on the country’s roads without being duly registered with authorities, Online news agency reported.

Man shot over parking space

A 25-year-old man was shot and wounded by two youths Monday after a heated argument over parking space for their cars in sector 55 here, police said.

According to police, some people, who were in a Tata Safari car, shot at Sachin twice when he objected to their parking of the car at his place. The victim runs a cab service in the area and hails from neighbouring Rithoj village.

“We have registered a case under attempt to murder and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unidentified assailants,” said a police officer.

Court dismisses CBI petition for attachment of Jagan firms

A city court Monday dismissed the petitions by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), seeking orders to attach the properties of YSR Congress party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in the alleged illegal assets case and those of two accused in the Emaar case.

The civil court pointed out at least eight deficiencies in the petition and observed that the investigating agency failed to provide sufficient grounds for attachment. It asked the CBI to file fresh petitions.

NCP minister arrested for housing scam, resigns

Jalgaon Police Monday arrested Minister of State for Transport and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Gulabrao Deokar for his alleged involvement in a 1997 housing scam for construction of 11,000 low-cost houses in this city in north Maharashtra.

Deokar was, however, released on a surety of Rs.30,000 after he was remanded to judicial custody till May 30.

Deokar is said to be involved in the scam of nearly Rs.50 crore. A member of Jalgaon Municipal Council between 1995 and 2000, he had earlier failed to turn up at the police station when summoned.
