Car stunts are now criminal offence in Dubai

UAE drivers involved in car stunts would be prosecuted as such actions are now considered as criminal offences because they threaten the lives of road users, Dubai’s traffic police chief was reported on Monday as saying.

Major General Mohammed Al Zafin said police had arrested some Emirati drivers involved in dangerous car stunt demonstrations in Mamzar, Rawiyya and other areas and they would stand trial after having their vehicles impounded.

Hajj Gets Smart App

A German Muslim computer scientist has developed a new smartphone application to help millions of pilgrims to find their way in the holy city of Makkah for hajj and `Umrah.

“I thought it would be interesting if I could have had a navigation device that could also be a religious guide,” Habiburrahman Dastageeri, a graduate from computer science department in Stuttgart University, told GlobalPost on Sunday, May 27.

Dastageeri got the idea for the smartphone application while visiting the holy city of Makkah in 2006 with his family to perform `Umrah.

Smoking cause Kidney cancer in India, Delhi on top

ASILENT killer is taking over the Capital. And no, it’s not the summer heat. Delhi tops the chart of the recent National Cancer Registry in kidney cancer. What used to strike the elderly has started catching the young in the Capital.Tumours of the kidney, which are generally found in people over 60, are being found in patients as young as seven.

In the recently released cancer registry, the age adjusted incidence rate has shown that young Delhi males are suffering the most from kidney cancers.

Painting competition on Environment

AP Pollution Board, National Green Corpus and Jawahar Bal Bhavan are jointly organizing a painting competition of “Environment” for the school children between the age group 5-15 years are eligible to participate.

Jagan Mohan case: CBI asks for 14-day custody, Andhra on edge

A Hyderabad court on Monday seeks Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to 14-day custody in the alleged disproportionate assets case.
Earlier, amidst heavy security, Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy arrived at the special CBI court at Nampally in connection with the alleged disproportionate assets case.
Heavy security is in place to avoid Jagan’s supporters from breaking loose in the court premises. Jagan’s wife Bharti Reddy and auditor Vijay Sai Reddy, who has been summoned by the CBI, were also present at the court room.

The world’s first womb transplant

DOCTORS have carried out the world’s first successful womb transplant in a breakthrough that could allow thousands of young women to fulfil their dream of motherhood.

Derya Sert, who was born without a womb, received a healthy organ in a seven- hour operation in the Turkish city of Antalya.

Scans show her new womb, which came from a woman who had died in a car crash, to be healthy and working well.

Sert is due to start IVF treatment in Turkey in September in the hope of conceiving a longed- for child.

Group –I Exam – 65% attendance in R.R. District

(Siasat News) Group I examination conducted by A.P.P.S.C. went off peacefully in Ranga Reddy District yesterday . Mr. V. Seshadri, Collector of R.R. District told that 142 examination centres were setup in the district. 59,754 candidates downloaded their hall tickets from the internet, out of which 38,881 candidates wrote the examination. In this way the attendance of the candidates who wrote this examination was 65%. Mr. Sudershan Reddy, Joint Collector visited various examination centres and took stock of the situation.

Saudization on course, says Fakeih

Labor Minister Adel Fakeih told members of the Shoura Council yesterday that the Kingdom’s Saudization program is well on track and the ministry was able to find jobs for 195,000 Saudi men and 51,000 women over the past few months.
Fakeih was addressing the 38th regular session of the Shoura Council presided over by its Chairman Abdullah Al-Asheikh.

Indecent acts not a criminal offence

‘Indecent’ acts of tourists on the beach and in shopping malls – like wearing short skirts and kissing in public – are not considered as criminal offences but as violations of law, according to Brigadier Khalil Al Mansouri, Director-General Department of Criminal Investigation, Dubai Police.

Such cases of misbehaviour should be dealt with in a civilised manner by educating violators about UAE laws and customs. Only if tourists continue to violate the law, the matter can be reported to the police, he said.

Time magazine has included Raj Kapoor’s 1951classic “Awaara” among 20 new entries added to its All-Time 100 list of the greatest films made since 1923, the beginning of the prestigious US periodical.

Rethinking the movie masterpieces, Time critic Richard Corliss describes Raj Kapoor as “the great star-auteur of India’s postcolonial golden age of movies – Cary Grant and Cecil B. DeMille in one handsome package.”

“The ’50s films he headlined and directed became huge hits not just in his newly freed homeland but also across the Arab crescent from Indonesia to North Africa,” Time noted.

Obama to seek Russia’s help to ease out Syria’s Assad
