Vijayamma complains to EC against YSRC leaders’ arrests

YSR Congress honorary president Y S Vijayamma on lodged a complaint with Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal against the arrest of YSR Congress party leaders in election-bound constituencies and not allowing them to participate in the campaigns.

The complaint letter written by Vijayamma was handed over to Bhanwarlal by YSR Congress leaders MV Mysoora Reddy, Shobha Nagi reddy, Konda Surekha, Bajireddy Goverdhan and others.

TDP justifies Jagan’s arrest

Cine actor and TDP leader N Balakrishna on Monday said that YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy landed behind the bars as he committed a mistake.

Talking to media persons after garlanding the statue of his father and TDP founder president N T Rama Rao at Basavatarakam Cancer Research Hospital to mark his 89th birth anniversary, Balakrishna said that the courts should give stringent punishment to those who involved in corruption. PCC announces by-polls campaign schedule

Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayanana on Monday announced by-election campaign schedule of Congress leaders.

Talking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Botsa Satyanarayanana stated that he would participate in the by-elections campaign in Ramachandrapuram Assembly Constituency on May 31 and June 1. He would also participate in the by-election campaign at Narasannapeta Assembly Constituency on June 2 and in Narsapuram constituency on June 6.

As expected, Pradesh Congress Committee Disciplinary Committee chairman Kanteti Satyanarayana Raju on Monday served show-cause notice to Eluru MLA Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas (Nani) and Bobbili MLA Venkata Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao Ravu for indulging in anti-party activities by moving closely with YSR Congress party.

While issuing show-cause notice, Satyanarayana Raju asked both of them to submit their explanation over anti-party activities by June 4.

Single test for engineering courses from 2013

In his petition, 85-year-old Babu Ram had said that his son, Raju, who was a Pakistani national, came to India in 2009 and forcibly occupied his flat in South Delhi’s Dakshin Puri.

SBI plans $1 bn debt bond issue

India’s largest state-run bank, State Bank of India (SBI), plans to float a $1-billion (Rs.5,500 crore) debt bond issue by August to raise funds from the market, a top official said Monday.

“We are planning to come out with a medium-term debt bond issue during the next three months to the tune of $1 billion as in the past, though we have not finalised the exact amount to be raised not as capital but debt,” SBI chairman Pratip Chaudhury told reporters on the margins of a function here.

105 branches of Canara Bank inaugurated

The executive director (ED) of Canara Bank Monday opened 105 ultra-small branches of Canara Bank and 100 ultra small branches of Shreyas Gramin Bank at a function here.

“These branches have been opened in remote un-banked rural areas of the country, where no banking facilities are available. These branches will connect these remote villages and provide basic banking facilities to 6 lakh rural people of the country,” said Archana Bhargava, the Canara Bank ED.

One in four Indians ‘suffering’: Gallup poll

South Asians rated their lives worse in 2011 than most residents in other parts of Asia with nearly one in four Indians “suffering”, third highest after Nepal and Afghanistan, according to a new poll.

Including India (24 percent), at least one in five residents in Nepal (31 percent), Afghanistan (30 percent), Sri Lanka (22 percent), and Pakistan (21 percent) rated their lives poorly enough to be considered “suffering”, according to a Gallup poll released Monday.

Jagan’s wife denied permission at jail

Y S Bharati, wife of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy who was arrested by the CBI and sent to judicial remand on Monday evening has tried in vain to meet him at the Chanchalguda prison where he was shifted after the court verdict.

Bharati who visited the jail along with YSR family confident Vijaya Sai Reddy were told by the jail authorities that they could not allow them to meet Jagan as rules do not permit.

Jagan is now prisoner 6093

Jagan was allotted prisoner number 6,093 after he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in the disproportionate assets case.

Jagan, who declared assets of Rs.356 crore last year and is accustomed to live luxuriously in his palatial bungalows, will now have to live a tough life.

Immediately after he entered the jail, he was taken to admission barracks and was given the prisoner number by jail authorities. Jail doctors also examined him.

Andhra Pradesh HC quashes Centre’s 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities

Holding that the Centre acted in a “casual manner”, the Andhra Pradesh high court today quashed the 4.5 per cent sub-quota to minorities carved out of 27 per cent OBC reservation — a verdict that may affect admissions already made in central educational institutions such as IITs. In a setback to the Centre over the sub-quota issue, the court said the office memorandum (OM) creating the sub-quota was based on religious grounds and not on any other consideration.

AP DGP told to exercise restraint in detaining YSR party actvists

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer on Monday directed the state Director General of Police (DGP) not to indiscriminately detain the YSR Congress Party workers and leaders in the name of maintaining law and order.

State Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal wrote a letter to the Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy in this regard following a complaint lodged by the YSRC with the Election Commission.

Jagan sent to judicial custody till June 11

The CBI court on Monday remanded YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy to judicial custody till June 11 in connection with the alleged disproportionate assets case.

While remanding him to judicial custody, the court rejected the CBI’s plea seeking 14 days custody of Jagan for further questioning. The court also rejected the petition of Jagan Mohan Reddy seeking bail. The CBI’s counsel contended that Jagan might tamper with the evidence and influence the witnesses, if he was released on bail.

TET postponed to June 1

Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) Director Jagannatha Reddy on Monday informed that the TET has been postponed to June 1 in view of Bharat Bandh call given by opposition parties in protest against the petrol price hike.

In a statement issued to media, he said that as per the schedule the TET was to be held on May 31. But due to Bharat Bandh call, it has been postponed to June 1. He said that there was no change in examination time.

Eleven accused gets bail in Jagan’s assets case

The CBI court on Monday granted bail to 11 out of 13 accused in connection with the disproportionate assets case against Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Except prime accused Jagan Mohan Reddy and vice-chairman Jagathi Publications Vijay Sai Reddy, the court granted bail to 11 others who were named as accused in the first chargesheet. They include Hetero Drugs Managing Director Srinivasa Reddy, Aurobindo Pharma MD Nityananda Reddy, Trident Life Sciences MD Sarat Chandra Reddy, APIIC former officer Y Vijayalakshmi and Aurobindo Pharma’s former secretary Chandramouli.

Sonia Gandhi not linked to Jagan’s arrest: Congress
